I think she will struggle in mom jeans, they don't cater for bums, hips or thighs I don't think from my personal experience. A size 12 isn't guna come close, these aren't your stretchy Tesco leggings beggney or your Zara smock dresses. Just own it fgs. People wouldn't take quite as much issue with you then
