He was pissing himself laughing at the joke she must of given him the look. Made himself look a right idiot and that speech he did, that's where the acting came in. 🙄 Gervais would of took him to town and the rest of the lovies.

The utter sense of entitlement, to feel that he can hit a guy for a joke he didn’t like and then claim he did it for love. Absolutely disgraceful.

This would have been completely career-ending if he was white. As it is I see a LOT of talk-shows in his near future, and more excruciating red table conversations with his wife.

I don’t think anyone is saying he should not have stuck up for his wife. It is the violent way in which he chose to do so that people are objecting to. There is no excuse for that.

I also read somewhere that he had previously slapped a journalist on the red carpet a few years back so it’s not the first time he’s been violent in public.
Yup. Imagine if Will had not been physical and just said something along the lines of, ‘Keep my wife’s name out your mouth. Shame on you for picking on someone with an illness. She is looking incredible tonight.’ Everyone would have been loving Will.

It reminds me of that time when Jeremy Clarkson punched a crew member whilst filming Top Gear. Admittedly lower profile but absolutely same principle. The rich and famous have their own rules whilst us little people aren't even allowed an opinion on a gossip forum without being told to 'be kind'.

I agree with everyone who has said that this had nothing to do with Chris Rock and everything to do with Will Smith feeling emasculated by his wife and their dysfunctional relationship.

Isn't there enough violence going on in the world without a rich, spoilt, over inflated ego getting into fisticuffs on a world stage? Personally I think they are a vile couple and I hope this is the end of his career.

Couldn’t care less for these Hollywood lot. The Oscars & what it stands for is a farce. Full of billionaires, rapists & paedos. The internet is ablaze with an opinion on it, meanwhile in the REAL world our gas/elec bills are going up & ppl r having to choose between warmth & food. Why is the internet not ablaze about that??
It’s all a fucking distraction. I wish we would be just as outraged when it comes to our rights and how we r being fleeced by these ppl.

What would Will have done if he knocked Chris out? Which easily could have happened. I feel bad for Chris Rock today it seems like none of his peers give a shit that he was assaulted on stage

Will Smith's behaviour is disturbing AF. To calmly walk up and PUNCH a guy and casually sit down, it's sickening.

(Would love to have seen Jada's face when he did it).

And the Oscars, nor the actors present admonishing him, but instead supporting him and his teary, "I'm a such a manly family man" apology. Disgraceful

Are they talented though? I just assumed it was pure nepotism how they ended up with their careers. I just found them a bit “emperor’s new clothes” with their weirdness and trying to be edgy.

Yep, where was security? If this was just some random person going on stage & punching the host you can be sure the men in black would’ve had his ass hauled out of there!

Two thinks I don’t think are being picked up on enough;

1. being slapped like that, in front of a live audience, on a show being broadcast internationally? Humiliating. The physical harm done to Chris probably pales in comparison to the psychological harm. And will smith knows this all too well. He grew up on a violent home. Violence isn’t just used as a physical tool. It’s used to psychological humiliate and beat someone down. Will Smith, growing up in a home with DV… knows this. Jada grew up in a violent home too. She knows it too. Imagine growing up with an abusive father, and seeing your husband react like that? Which leads me on to my next point…

2. In no way did his actions help Jada. I’m shocked at celebrities saying he “stood up for” jada and that black women aren’t stood up for enough. If Jada was indeed embarrassed by the joke at the time, it would’ve been forgotten about in minutes. A cheap punchline that nooone really paid attention to. Because of Will Smith, the entire world is paying attention to the joke. Paying attention to her hair. Looking at things she’s said previously on it. Will Smith didn’t only harm Chris Rock, he harmed his wife. If he’d really wanted to help her he’d have offered support. It wasn’t about helping Jada. It was about how Will Smith felt. He didn’t consider Jada for a second realistically.

amidst all that, the fact he was able to party the night away after humiliating two people… it looks pyschopathic to me.

Jada and Will are one hell of a toxic couple.

I'd be horrified if someone stuck up for me by being violent. It's not something to applaud imo.

has it been a continuous thing since the 90s or has it just been three jokes in over two decades?

Used to love Will Smith as did most people of my generation. But all this red table shit, airing their dirty laundry, and their precocious children was putting me off. He does this inspirational act all the time sharing his worldly advice. Mask truly slipped didn’t it. Security should have removed him and Oscar withdrawn.
I agree, he should’ve been thrown out & the police called, certainly not given us award.
Clearly thinks he’s above the law. He’s a fool.
