Colouring in a Christmas card for her school English teacher when she's in her fourth year at university is killing me with cringe, I can't lie.

I also find it so weird how Ruby talking about her research never sounds like a student relaying things they've found to a peer, it's like she wants to be the teacher with zero qualifications.

I found a description of the English dissertation module Ruby is taking this term. (It's on the Exeter University website if you do some digging). From what I understand, she can only spend up to an hour and a half of total one-on-one time with her supervisor throughout the tern, and they can only read up to 2,000 words of a dissertation draft. (Leaving 6,000 words that Ruby will have to write all by herself with no input from a tutor/supervisor). No wonder she is freaking out and floundering. She has never been forced to work this independently before! She doesn't know how to write her papers without direct input from her tutors or Blakeney. If the goal of the dissertation is to showcase what she has learned during the course of her degree, and demonstrate competent critical thinking and writing skills, she really is going to have a rough time of things, because she really doesn't seem to know how to do any of that. It's kind of sad but you also really have to laugh, because she did this to herself by constantly cutting corners over the past three years. Now that she won't be able to rely on other people to do critical close reading for her, or supply her with specific and guided essay topics, (like in her normal classes) it will be interesting to see what she manages to come up with when forced to use her own brain. Assuming that her dissertation is due at the end of the current 11 week term, by my calculations, that gives her about 8 weeks left to actually research, write, edit, and submit the whole thing. That's not that much time, considering all the other assignments she still has to do for her other class. Ruby, stop wasting time on nonsense busy work, and just start writing the damn thing. Otherwise you really are just "shitting" yourself in the foot.

Coincidentally, Ruby's mother posted a poem about the joys of finally having time alone to enjoy peace and quiet and how good that is for her mental health...shortly before Ruby comes back to ruin it.

I only got about 20 seconds into the new vid and: "I try to write a letter every day, which seems like quite a lot, but Lewis Carroll wrote seven letters on average a day, so it's actually basically nothing."

Like... Roobs... That's seven letters a day but no texts, emails, DMs etc. Like. Acknowledge the difference between the 19th century and now? I'm not trying to be like anti-letter (getting stuff in the post is kinda fun, what can I say), but it is so bizarre to act like people used to send letters because it's some sacred art, rather than because that was the way to communicate with people you didn't live with or near back then.

Hello! I've been lurking for a little while but this is my first post so that's exciting

I'm in year eleven and I have to say, some of Ruby's "study" techniques seem a little too familiar (writing things out a bunch of times in the hope that something will stick) and honestly I'm surprised that her attitudes seem to have not developed since GCSE level. I mean it's honestly just a case of learning the test and not necessarily the content, especially for subjects I couldn't care less about. It makes me wonder how much she actually does care about english. Also, maybe admitting that she needs to change doesn't play into her "I'm still twelve" fantasy and that's why she refuses to.

In essence, I think it's strange that a 21 year old final year university student and a 15 year old GCSE student approach exams and deadlines in the same way. I.e. not caring about the content or putting in any form of critical thinking in hopes of just making it to summer. Surely at university you need to actually think to be getting the grades Ruby appears to be getting but we all know she doesn't really do that.

Oh ffs, I have Ruby's videos playing just now for some background noise whilst I do some admin tasks and zoned back in right as she said:

'I was fancying an apple, which also happens to be a very autumnal fruit, I think. I don't really know why apples are seen as autumnal because I feel like they're more of a August fruit'.

What in the ever-loving fuck goes on in this girls head?! Appreciate this was probably spoken about in the earlier threads but it's the first time I've noticed it and I had to come here to screech.

’Reporters believe that the Great Fire of Exeter began in a student house, when one of the residents (known to history by her inititals, RG) knocked over a poorly placed candle which in turn led to her dropping an antique bed warmer, filled with hot coals, which then ignited the piles of discarded clothing, books and electrical goods in the house. I mean, Emma Watson is problematic sure, but these pictures are literally just upskirting? Paparazzi try and do it to most women celebs, it’s vile and misogynistic . I’m not sure what they’ve got to do with anything.

Flashing back to the time Ruby's big act of kindness for the day was leaving notes on mummy's mirror to tell her to not to worry about her old, wrinkled face because she still had kind eyes or something.

It's wild to me that she reads critical essays before she's read the original text. I never do that because I don't want to be influenced by others' ideas before I've had chance to form my own but that's exactly what Ruby is out for. She can't stand the thought that she might start reading something and not understand it, or have nothing profound to immediately say about it.

I agree with OP and I don't like Ruby. But I can acknowledge if someone I don't like does something decent. That's a good meal, it's got carbs, healthy fats and protein if the yoghurt is greek style, as well as some fruits. Good for her for showing something like that

I think we need to be a bit less parasocial. No one needs to work a full time job if they don't have to, no one has to have sex or romantic relationships (bit allonormative), she doesn't have to drive (I wonder what happened to the lessons she was having? She could have had issues with anxiety around driving, as many people do.) Being in your 20s is weird, and it's not like there are universal deadlines or milestones on maturity (and in fact forcing these can cause more harm than good, as I have found out to my own detriment).

The issue is that one of her jobs at the moment is making YouTube videos, and she is incapable of translating her interests and any feeling of purpose into videos these days (much less videos of commensurate quality with her experience). She isn't able to commit to a pivot of her channel's purpose (as she is still making basically the same videos she made when she was 17.) Its obvious she tries things out, but in a very half hearted manner (like her slightly absurd videos, or the odd video she does trying to educate on something). She can't seem to script a video essay on something she's interested in. She can't seem to vlog her travel interestingly. She isn't doing enough that she can film to make daily life vlogs. She doesn't have an interesting enough video style for fashion. The main thing that has changed in her channel between now and when she was 17 is that she can't do those "I studied for 16 hours!" videos anymore.

At the moment her channel is a bit of a zombie, stumbling from old idea to old idea for advert spots. The kind of videos she could pivot to (more creative filmmaking or scripted video essays) are far more effort than her current fare, and would require cutting down the schedule a bit (and hence would result in less ad spots, and hence less revenue while she sees what the result of the pivot was).

You might be right that taking on full time work or similar would give her a bit more structure, but there are plenty of creators who haven't really gone into the career thing and make interesting content without talking about boyfriends, or ever showing themselves driving.

We should be careful to separate the disinterest of her videos from her own life satisfaction. Many people just don't have lives that produce anything worth filming. Many people are happy in those low-key existences.
