Here's a recent comment that was posted by a viewer on Alex's last video. I've been a fan of Alix's for a long time....this resonated with me. Very disappointed as well. She posted 2 videos since December - obviously something is wrong. I just wish she would just come out and officially say she is stepping away from YouTube. If she didn't want to be in the spotlight she would not post on IG either but she has been posting....is it because it requires minimal effort? At this point, IG seems so contrived and not heartfelt.

Been a subscriber for 6 years now and you’ve always been my favorite YouTuber, the only one I kept following for so long; but I think it’s time to leave. I get that life gets in the way and a lot of people struggle with mental health, I’ve been in depression for the last 10y. But I still go to work every day. Being a content creator is not your job anymore when there is a video every 2 months. When almost half a million people are following you, they expect content. If it is a job, do it seriously. I’ve been super understanding for a long time because I do know what it feels like, to not feel 100%. But people, myself included, work everyday no matter how shitty they feel or if they cry in the bathroom stall at every break. You are ULTRA privileged to have the job you have. At least try to give your audience what they subscribed for. This is really starting to look, both here and on IG, like “well I can slack off, my audience is here anyway whenever I choose to work again.” You always said people cannot expect things from a YouTuber or ask for any explanation. But when it’s a job, and we as subscriber continue to your privileged lifestyle, yes I think we are allowed to expect content. Super disappointed.

I really feel for her because she does seem to be floundering, and I agree with her that we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves during a pandemic BUT I really take issue with her (and every influencer's) understanding of self-care. Self-care shouldn't just be giving yourself a free pass to do nothing and give in to your every want. Self-care should include discipline to do the things you know you have to do. If she likes her job as much as she says she does then IMO she really should buckle down and get back to doing actual work. I don't mean to sound unsympathetic and I get she's been through so much and lockdown has been hard for everyone, but I feel like she's taking it unusually hard for someone who has been lucky enough to not have lost her job, home, or a loved one because of it. I get the anxiety that comes with the pandemic, but what has lockdown taken away from her? Going out shopping and eating out in restaurants? I wonder if all these influencers are taking lockdown so hard because it has forced them to come to terms with the fact that they have no hobbies or interests outside of consumerism. Sorry for the long rant, I'm so tired of seeing all these youtubers who are in some of the most secure positions talk about covid like its something that has happened specifically to them and not a major global event that involves everybody.

“Sorry I’ve been away, I’ve just been feeling really demotivated. The following products #ad #aff #spon have made me feel a lot better and have given me the strength to return.”
Rinse and repeat.
Very clever. That’s some high functioning shilling.

"after producing 4 videos in december, i really needed to take 10 weeks off. posting colourless photos of shadows was too emotionally taxing for me to even consider. i feel so rejuvenated and inspired and have created one instagram post for you. anyway, here are all the shapeless outfits i've been wearing, please click the affiliate links so i can afford a spring wardrobe"

She looks good. But I’m over it, sorry. I actually have a lot of understanding about mental health and taking needed health leaves/sabbaticals, but it’s obvious she’s just going to sporadically do this whenever she feels like it and then come back with a bait-y ‘update’ video that answers nothing as per usual, makes promises, and then after a while repeats the entire cycle.

Like I said, I support caring for your health above all else, and it is my personal experience with this exact thing that makes it so frustrating to watch people like Alix pretend as though they work a normal job where they took ‘time off’. The reference to ‘first day back at work’ is somewhat offensive to me. It’s not— it’s not the same at all to a job where you have a contract, a boss, and daily responsibilities and goals that must be met and taking MONTHS off has actual consequences and requires planning and sacrifice. But it’s like they all “play house” (or ‘play career’) online to look good or frame their disappearance as something it wasn’t. I mean, she’s wearing a suit to take pics on her room showing she’s ‘back at work’. How much more performative can you get? Why not come back with a new video, some content, and future plans? Instead “hey guyss... I cut my hair..”... and of course the typical, “Thank you to all the lovely people who asked if I was okay”.

If they could just be honest and be like— yeah this isn’t really a real job and I’m not worried anymore about losing followers so I’m just going to do with it what I please for now, I’m thankful this is what I can do to make a living though. Then fine! Instead they fully pretend as though they clocked out and had an official LOA.

I love how this is the top comment. What do you do to pay your bills?! I love how she was all like, “ohhh there’s just not enough time in the day to have a clean house, have a boyfriend, have friends”… imagine all that and an ACTUAL job 🙄

I love how she says "Hopefully it won't be too long before I'm back with something new" like it's out of her control. How about you film a video Alix, groundbreaking idea, I know!

That wrap cardigan looks like shes going for her black belt. What's with all these youtubers "adding pieces to their collections" ..... drives me mad, as if their the curator of a museum. You bought a jumper, get a grip.

She does kind of seem that way! Good observation. “Oh no, I broke a nail today. Guess I can’t go to work today!” “The croissant is slightly over toasted!!! Well, my day is ruined. Better sit around in bed.” “THERE IS A SINGLE CLOUD IN THE SKY!!! Better abandon YouTube for half a year”

this is the Alix I miss 💔 I completely understand that you can change styles & prefer other looks as we get older & mature, but she’s so far removed from these days where she seemed generally a bit more relaxed & not trying too hard. I used to really love her style, it was relatable & didnt cost the earth and were things that people ACTUALLY wore day to day.
Unfortunately this beige BB copycat london try hard image has made me finally unsubscribe, it’s too boring & just doesn’t feel authentic in the slightest.

Wow I don’t see what you guys are seeing. I don’t know that we’ve seen enough of this guy to even make a basic assessment of his personality, let alone guess at something as serious as DV or even just to say he’s shady? Alix is definitely codependent but she’s also clearly depressed and anxious and has always had a hard time having friends before this relationship. I’m the first to point out toxic parts of a relationship or obviously to gossip about others but making vague speculations of abuse from literally nothing is crossing the line.

What we have seen, he actually seems nice and chill. I’ve always thought it was sweet that he makes a Mother’s Day card to Alix from her dog— cheesy yes but he is trying to make a tough day somehow positive for her. Just one thing but it’s thoughtful.

I understand where she's coming from when she says she doesn't owe anyone an in depth explanation of what she may be going through, she's entitled to her privacy and all that, but ignoring all the comments like the one posted above and others on her IG (which have all come from a place of concern and compassion) while she continues to try to constantly make money off of her subscribers via nonstop affiliate links leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I think her comeback video might have just been something to put out to avoid getting demonetized on Youtube because it had been too long since her last upload.

I know money and privilege don't shield you from depression and mental health struggles, and it's not fair for me to say that I would be much happier if I was able to live the way Alix does, but I'm pretty confident in saying that most of us would at the very least be able to alleviate alot of our stresses and anxieties just by virtue of having the amount of free time that she does, time to cook for ourselves, to exercise, to spend with loved ones and to pursue interests....She constantly talks about how lucky she is and how grateful she is but I really don't think she realizes the extent of her privileges, I think a healthy dose of perspective by seeing the way other people live might do her some good. I feel like she's just turned into a housecat who does absolutely nothing all day.
