No I don't. My accent is awful.
I have lived in the North for a little less than a decade from London and my accent was originally the softer, North of the river variant of the accent you found with many city youth. My childrens accents "went" within the first year, my oldest sounded somewhat close to Brummy for a short while (not completely, but more the ends of each sentence, weird as it is half way in between) before he sounded Northern all together. However in the past couple of years, I have adopted a slight northern pitch and twang that I can sometimes hear myself falling into but have to also put effort into grabbing my accent back, with people from back home saying I sound a bit like a Northerner and I have been asked up here if I am from the Midlands alot.
My sister lived up here for roughly the same amount of time but she didn't pick up any form of accent. She didn't socialise as much and her partner was from a more affluent area having a posh accent (more accentless than posh tbh). However I have lived with Northerners up here, been more integrated into the community, have children who go to local schools, have local friends. My partner having more an accent being from a less affluent area. I am interested in hearing what accent our son picks up before he goes to school.
