No bruised face here and ones was impacted so more tricky to get out. They usually give you an ice pack thing to put straight on it and then I just did the same when I got home for the first day too.

you’ll honestly be fine, and the relief of no more pain is well worth it

I had my lower wisdom tooth out about 6 weeks ago. Honestly it wasn't too bad. It took a while because they had to cut the tooth in half to get it out so probably an hour start to finish. I had stitches as well which I took out myself 3 weeks after (hca for a living!). I was so worried about dry socket but took it really easy for a couple of days. I went to the bank the day after and just walking for a minute made it bleed slightly. It was quite swollen and bruised afterwards and I looked like a chipmunk! I stopped painkillers after about 5 days. Hope that helps x

Depends if they stitch or not. If they stitch it’s much quicker as you don’t have to worry about getting food in the hole before it’s healed over.

personally I took painkillers for a couple of days and then was fine. It just feels a bit weird that’s all

just use salt water and gently tilt your head to swish it round your mouth rather than how you would use mouthwash. And if it’s a little swollen put an ice pack on your outer cheek

My dentist said of it still hurts (and no improvement in pain) after 3 days then come back. (Mine did and it was a dry socket). But if I didn’t have a dry socket it would’ve been fine to deal with after 2/3 days.

My bottom two started to come through in my early twenties, not pleasant. I'm 31 now and they're both still only partially through, wondering if they'll ever come fully out!

They're fine right now (touch wood) but every so often one side flares up and it's awful, thankfully both sides don't seem to flare up at the same time, not sure what I'd do as I have to chew on the other side when it does, and even opening my mouth hurts. It's the pits. Makes me think no wonder poor babies cry sore when they're teething

You’ll be fine to eat by then unless something goes wrong. I was on normal food within a few days but I guess it depends on how complicated yours was.

I was told the pain should be easing by day 3.

Hi everyone. I’m reviving this thread as I’m heading to the dentist in a little bit to get my wisdom teeth checked and most likely taken out soon.
I woke up with the worst pain two weeks ago (upper left), two days ago (upper right) and tonight again (upper right) and at this point I’m 99% sure it’s gotta be my wisdom teeth.
I’m super scared about the whole procedure as I already had one tooth pulled (non wisdom) and I did not react well to the numbing injection and was bleeding much longer than normal, so I’m super stressed about possible complications and really want to be put under GA (but I’m also scared about that) because I was slightly traumatized by the pressure, pulling and noises of getting that one tooth out.

Reading everyone’s experience has really helped though, so thank you everyone for sharing and I hope you are all doing well.

Have you told the dentist that you are a nervous/anxious patient from past extractions? It might be worth while letting them know. I know some dentists specialise in that area.

I found this meditation which could help you:

Good luck

So glad I found this thread! I’m having two of my wisdom teeth out soon (upper & lower) at the dental hospital with local anesthetic . Does anyone know if they will give me pain meds or should I buy my own? I’m a bit nervous but I’ve had some horrendous infections so I’m quite relieved they are finally coming out.

Are you in the UK? I wasn’t given anything, just told to use ibuprofen

I had all 4 of mine taken out GA and I was given co-dyramol. I think for local you would just be advised to use standard pain killers

I had mine out using LA and used paracetamol and ibuprofen. Be prepared for some facial swelling for a few days afterwards.
