I know it’s not exactly West End but close enough - did anyone see that the theatre in Wimbledon cancelled Charlie and the Chocolate Factory yesterday because of the heat? While I am sure it’s frustrating for those with tickets I can completely understand why they did it, especially with kids in the show

It's odd though that they were the only show to do it

(Absolutely uneducated suggestiin here) but could it be to do with the number of kids in the show and/or how long they’re on stage for? I don’t know if it works as like a ratio thing? I’ll admit it’s a total guess 😂

I wondered that but other shows have kids in that are on stage a lot (e.g. Matilda)

I think it was absolutely the right thing to do. Alice Fearn had a big rant about it on Twitter and I agree with her. There needs to be a max temp. Although I guess it depends as some theatres do have air con

Does anyone know why Chanel haynes was sacked from Tina I thought it was because she called in sick and went to perform with the rolling stones instead

Yeah there's no air con at the Wimbledon theatre so that will be why. I think they cancel performances at the Regent's Park open air theatre if the temperature goes above 40, which is crazy to me, should be more like 35 especially if the actors are in heavy costumes and/or dancing a lot.

It's funny, Carrie has completely inhabited 'main character in my story' energy and now its coming our how toxic that can be. She gets more irrelevant and toxic as the days go by

I think georgie ashford made a YouTube video where she broke down salaries in the theatre. Speaking of Georgie, does anyone know what happened to her? She said she was having a social media break quite a while ago and she disappeared. Haven't heard whether she's been in anything since. I really enjoyed her content.
Georgie & her partner run a performing arts school called Esprit. I think they might just be focussing on the comparatively steady income that provides.

She is still maintaining that she was fired because she performed with The Stones. Apparently, she was first suspended, told if she’d been honest (instead of calling in sick) and just said, “Look, I’ve been given this opportunity etc”, they would’ve granted her the night off. She supposedly threw a fit and said she wasn’t lying, but they had photographic evidence, so they fired her.

Or they didn't want to risk the chocolate melting? 😂

yikes, after all that fuss! it was a bad idea in general though imo, i don’t mind it as a show but it’s aged horribly no matter what spin they try and put on it.

Honestly I don't have an issue with the story, stuff like that happens . If anything I think they should have left it as it was. By watering it down they've still put off those who don't like the idea, and also the fans of the show. To me it screamed vanity project for Michael Ball so he could say he played both roles and further 'own' the show.

Ain't Too Proud maybe the next to close, it's selling very badly and may not see out its year run

exactly re michael ball. i wonder how he deals with the younger actor singing “his” big number though 🤣 i also hated the posters etc for it which seemed to stage it as some kind of whacky romantic comedy when the general undertone of it is dark af. like you say, if you’re going to put on a show like that either own it or don’t.

i am still scarred by a touring production i saw though where the younger female character (i forget her name!) was in pigtails, lisping and holding a lollipop for all her scenes so the age difference was just made even weirder 🤦🏼‍♀️

Oh blimey! Have tickets for October!
Have the email confirming and offering an upgrade on our seats (we already had the best seats in the theatre - well front row dress circle) on any show up to the 19th August. I was taking my mum who absolutely loves Lucille Ball (sorry that's what we call him!) and we could only do Saturdays due to travelling to London. October was good for my social diary! So have requested a full refund.

My mum is a huge Michael Ball fan and we went to London to see the show a couple of weeks ago. I was shocked as the theatre was half empty and it was a Saturday. I really didn't enjoy the show at all and even mum said she wasn't that fussed. We saw him at stage door after and he seemed nice enough. I'm not surprised it's closing early. I've seen tons of shows and it's up there with some of the poorer ones.
