Can’t help but feel some bitterness that they’re bringing Les Mis back with the big names that won’t have struggled financially at all this year, when Cameron Mackintosh made over 800 of his staff alone redundant. They will be spending Christmas on universal credit and working barely minimum wage jobs, but it’s okay because Carrie Hope Fletcher, Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, and Matt Lucas can line their pockets.
I am happy for the crew on Mis and the rest of the cast. But I can’t help but be frustrated at the same time. So many people in the west end work so hard for the top % of bosses and actors to get the most money and jobs for little to no effort

I honestly cannot STAND her. I find her so obnoxious. She might have some talent but it’s clear she’s stunt cast.

It's terrible, especially as the entertainment industry makes billions for the UK economy, even more than sport which seems to have been prioritised instead (I hate sport but I'm not biased lol). Theatre attracts so many tourists to London which in turn supports food, retail in the area etc. It's part of what the UK is known for abroad, yet they are happy to just forget that.

In Scotland the government has made funding available for the theatre sector. Problem is it's the same people getting the money all the time.
The Glasgow Pavilion has been trying to drum up some support because they've been turned down flat for funding!!!
The Pavilion is about as far away from a west end theatre as you can get. Their main trade is variety shows, pantos and Glasgow type comedy/musicals. But without the Pavilion, and other venues like them, a lot to people would never set foot in a theatre.
They receive no arts funding and have to survive on tickets sales. But of course this year there are no tickets sales!!!
Think what makes it worse is that one organisation that got the funding was the Citizens theatre. It's been shut for over a year cos it's being renovated!!! So why it needs funding is a bit of a mystery!!!
I know this is a west end theatre thread but as I said, venues like the Pavilion need to be supported or else whole sections of people will never get the opportunity to go to the theatre.
Ps - a couple of years ago, I saw the scaled down version of Les Mis in Edinburgh. Jings it was a shadow if it's former self!!! I really hope McIntosh doesn't do the same to Phantom!!!

Ever so slightly West End related, but Ethan Slater (the OG SpongeBob on Broadway and was SpongeBob in the proshot, which they filmed over here) and Boq in the upcoming film version of Wicked cheated on his wife with, and is now seeing, Arianna Grande. He has a less than 1 year old son with his wife too.

My issue is my mum is half Jamaican and half Irish, and my dad is French. I look white but to say I’m white discounts my heritage. If I turned up, I’m sure I’d be turned away. I feel it just causes unnecessary problems and I don’t understand why he’s doing this. I know I’d be in the minority, but it’s difficult as it is to try to find your identity when you’re a strange old mix without having things like this make you question how black is black enough.

Yeah they’re with Delfont Mackintosh who made 600 redundancies last week. Interestingly, other producers haven’t made cuts as severe as Cameron Mackintosh has. They’ve kept their in house heads of departments whereas Cameron has let EVERYONE go aside from a small team kept on to help “transition” things over.
People who have worked in those theatres 20 odd years now have no jobs. It’s widely believed he’s done this because he wants to restructure departments and combine roles to save money (bad fucking idea if you ask me, a lot of the jobs are totally separate and there’s not much of a skill overlap) and he’s done this under the cover of “sadly necessary COVID redundancies”.

When I went to Back to the Future there was someone not far from me who had a giant pair of headphones on and left about twice in each act. He was on the aisle though and didn’t return in the middle of a number, I imagine he had autism/some kind of sensory disorder and the staff let him back in when he would not disturb anyone. I don’t have a problem with something like that but it’s different when someone is getting drunk or bothering others

I'm black and i think its the worst idea ever. It's othering and is creating a very negative conversation that black people (apart from the playwright himself) haven't asked for. I also think the whole play itself is a terrible idea anyway.

*whispers* I think Mamma Mia is absolute tosh and couldn’t wait for it to be over. I’m not interested in who the father of your daughter is, just decide so I can go home. I feel so passionate about this that I completely went agin Meryl Streep after the film and cannot watch anything she is inI couldnt get a ticket for Les Mis in Glasgow. I really hope that some people dislike Alfie Boe so much that they'll sell their tickets
And I know this regional theatre not West end but me and the old dear went to see I Should Be So Lucky tonight.
I'll say this quietly - we loved itas my mum said, it had great singers, dancers, laughs and was cheerful. And Pete Waterman was there (yes my mum got a photo with him)
It's not Les Mis or Mamma Mia but it was a fun night at the theatre.
