I've lost around 30kg over quite a long period of time - probably around 3 years. t came off so slowly that I still find it hard to believe and feel very unaware of my size now. I'm a size 10/12 but often buy 12s that are far too big for me and still won't buy the 10 because in my mind it won't fit. I did it mostly through exercising, more effort to 'move' (walking a lot)

I've had a bad relationship with my weight and eating in the past - I dropped from about a size 16/18 to a size 8/10 when I was 18 over a short period of time basically through daily exercise and a lot of restriction on my eating. My whole family are image obsessed who just went on about how great I looked - even my mum who knew how little I was eating. Then I got depressed and developed hypothyroidism in my 20s so piled a lot of it on again. It wasn't til I got engaged to my husband I was determined to make a more permanent adjustment and thus the very slow weightloss to where I am now.

Anyone tried any appetite suppressants that actually work? I’m managing to stop snacking but I am getting very hungry at the end of the day when my belly is wondering where it’s 8pm snack is :ROFLMAO: I’ve tried drinking lemon water or just having chewing gum but it makes it worse!
if it’s genuine hunger then honestly, have a little snack. An apple or something? It’ll be enough to stop the hunger and satisfy you. Something really small won’t hurt and you won’t have to suffer the hunger pangs.

Off the wagon. I have officially gone into ‘fuck it, it’s Christmas’ mode. Eating whatever I want and I don’t feel bad about it because this has been a shit year.

Once I have some real optimism for 2021 (which I’m hoping there will be soon), in January I’m gonna work on eating healthier again but until that point it’s gonna be a food free for all and I’m not sorry 😂

I’ve been using my fitness pal and lost 4lbs in first week with sticking to calories and going for a walk a day! If it rains I’ve been doing the “happy mile” on YouTube! I think it really makes me think about what I can/can’t eat or more of when I’m actually hungry!!!

Never heard of it, seems really helpful! I love how everyone is offering advice here because losing weight is so hard
Your tdee is basically the amount of calories your body burns daily just being alive and moving around in general. It’s just in simple terms your calories needed to maintain your weight now. Calorie deficit is the only way to lose weight. No matter what diets people are on (keto, SW etc) they are only losing that weight because they are in a deficit whether they realise it or not. Weightloss is simple science but I think the abundance of different “diets” makes it seem a lot more complicated than it is. I wish you luck with your weightloss im currently trying to shift a stone so I know how you feel!

Hey guys, I could really do with some advice/help/a huge kick up the arse.

I am the heaviest I’ve ever been at around 275lbs (probably more but I’ve not weighed myself for a couple of months out of pure shame). I’m 6ft 1 so have been able to “get away” with being larger for a long time but recently I have started feeling really tight chested, finding it harder to take a deep breath in and just finding it harder to run around after my small children. I know something has got to change and I need to lose weight quickly but also effectively and keep it off. I’ve tried so many forms of diets from slimming world to calorie counting to Keto and none of it works for me, I literally have NO willpower and feel like the only person in the world who actually cannot just stick to something. I suffer with depression, particularly after having my first baby although haven’t done recently other than a tad bit of seasonal depression. I comfort eat to the max, im absolutely addicted to fat Coca Cola, I eat chocolate for breakfast most days or some kind of sugary thing because I hate breakfast - I can sometimes snack on this until until dinner which is then my only meal of the day but usually carb loaded and then followed by more shitty snacks. I’ve hit a huge rock bottom with my health and I know I’m on a one way track to heart problems and diabetes and I’m really starting to scare myself as I just cannot stop. Literally judging myself as I type this as I know it’s so awful.

I guess I’m just asking as would love some tips from people that have been in a similar position to me and how they kickstarted their healthy lifestyle once and for all, and also how they found the motivation to stay healthy even with having 0 time/energy. Also any exercise tips would be great. Thanks!
I think take it slow and steady. Don’t put yourself on another diet, that just makes us feel restricted and then we want to rebel. Don’t cut out all the things you love, just start off by cutting down. I love coke too it’s my favourite drink. I don’t know how much you drink of it now but say it’s 2 or 3 cans, just cut out one a day for a bit and then work your way down. So maybe your day could look a bit more structured. What could you eat that you’d enjoy for breakfast? What about a chocolatey porridge, or even a cereal just so you’re eating one thing instead of snacking. What would you enjoy for lunch? Even if it’s a sandwich, some crisps and a chocolate?

I found it really important to just do it very gradually and it really worked. When I first started losing weight I still allowed myself something nice every day so there was always something to look forward to and I didn’t feel like I was just eating boring foods. I committed to moving my body 3x a week for at least 30 mins. After around 4 weeks I built up momentum so then I found I actually wanted to eat less stodgy food and I wanted to exercise more. I think where so many people fall down is going from how we have been to trying to be a saint and it’s just unrealistic. Small changes that are sustainable lead to long term results. Good luck, I know it’s really hard xx

I'm beyond fed up, track everything I eat and generally don't go over my calories (even if I do it's about 50 cals), walk between10K and 12K steps every day (not a gym person at all, I enjoy walking), drink 2 - 3 litres of water per day, generally sleep OK an yet the scales never move, I've lost a pound in three weeks! Not looking to lose mad amounts, a pound a week I'd be well chuffed with but it isn't happening. Just so disheartening 😢
I had this last year when I was trying to slim down for my wedding, and one thing that worked for me was only having 1 meal with carbs a day.

So if I had pasta for lunch I’d leave the potatoes off my dinner and just have the protein and veg. I would allow myself carbs at lunch and dinner if I did at least 30 minutes of cardio though (hard running etc). I lost the last half a stone I’d been stuck on doing this.

I still try and do it now but admittedly I’ve slipped big time due to lockdown etc 😬

I want to lose 2 stone for my wedding but I struggle working out a decent calorie deficit - 1200 cals seems really low and I struggle to stick to it, but 1400-1600 it seems the losses are painfully slow. Any advice?
you’ve just got to stick at it, the more drastic the deficit, the less likely you are to stick to it and the more likely you are to just pile it back on. weight loss isn’t a quick process

The book ”I can make you thin” by Paul McKenna changed my approach and has served me better than any diet. I had tried everything over the years- Slimfast, Forever Living cleanses, Weight Watchers, soup diets, Special K diet, intermittant fasting, low carb. If it’s been a trend in the last 20 yrs you can bet your life I’d tried it. I was a diet junkie- always very good at losing weight, but just as good at putting it back on.

I was recommended the book by someone who had lost weight and kept it off, but I was really sceptical and purchased it thinking well it’s a way of putting off going back to Slimming World for a week or two while I read it!

It’s not brilliantly written (felt a little patronising at times- I’m probably a bit of a literary snob though!) but honestly.....from someone who has no vested interest in flogging you the book (and was kinda laughing at myself even reading it, like ‘Fucks sake, I’m educated, why am I reading this drivel.”) it’s the best £10 I’ve spent on myself in years. I read the book twice, listened to the accompanying CD, did the exercises, used the techniques he gives you, and I lost 3 stone over 2 years ago and have never looked back.

The essence of the book is to eat whatever you like, when you like. You can only eat food that you absolutely love (yep cake for breakfast is fine if that’s what you want), only ever when you’re hungry, really savour it, and stop when you’re full. Sounds easy right? It taught me so much about why I overeat eat, and that I probably hadn’t felt genuine hunger in about 20 years (🤪).It’s also given me a freedom around food that I never thought I could have- nothing is off limits.

It was emotional and difficult at times. One of the exercises asks you to put a post it note on your most visited kitchen cupboard that reads ‘What do you really need.?” and that got me for a while....made me tearful a few times. I realised that I genuinely used to eat because I was sad, or bored, or unfulfilled, or stressed, and what I needed was friendship, or a fucking break from my kids, or a hug, you know? There ain’t enuf biscuits in the world to sort that shit out, and until you fix those root causes, you will always turn to food!

Honestly, I’ve recommended it to so many people- Paul should send me a bloody royalty cheque or summat 😆

Read the Amazon reviews. Brill!
Good luck xxx
I'm sold! Thank you x

For those of you struggling with disordered eating after SW or those who are losing faith with it I thoroughly recommend following wearerebelfit and drjoshuawolrich on Instagram. They are huge eye openers x

So glad I stumbled upon this thread!
I've been a serial Slimming Worlder for the past 8 years or so. What I've come to realise in the last few weeks is that I have disordered eating and I'm in a binge / restrict cycle.
I'm not sure if any of you follow TC on Insta, but when she started her recent journey again (not following SW) I was so sure she wouldn't succeed because she was having smoothies for breakfast and SW has it so drummed into you that smoothies are bad. However after seeing her results I'm going to follow her lead, ditch the SW mantra, syns and healthy extras and cut down instead. Because of my distorted image of food, I will need to something that will continue to allow me to restrict and so I will be calorie counting.
I can't wait to have cereal AND a sandwich tomorrow!
Who is TC please xx

I’ve yo-yo’d with SW for years. Would always lose around a stone and then fall off the wagon and put the weight on and more.

2 years ago I lost 3 stone in a pretty short space of time (4 months) but then I moved house and couldn’t get back into it and ending up putting on 5 🤦🏽‍♀️

Because of my weight I find it really hard to exercise, even a short 5-10 minute walk gives me searing pain in my lower back, but once I’ve lost around a stone that pain eases and I’m able to enjoy slow paced walks.

I would love to be able to afford a PT who could ease me in gently to exercise and provide me with a meal plan, but they are just so expensive.

I’m 30 in August and really want to try and get my weight down before I develop serious health issues.

Thanks, I’m actually not trying to lose much at the minute so I’m not crazy strict- maybe 4/5 pounds as my BMI is now over 24 but I filled it in and I think this is essentially what I do now however I don’t have a calorie number I stick to every day - I just go by how hungry I am and some days end up at 1200, some at 1800 but I’m always still in a deficit so I guess that’s basically the zig zag diet.

1200 on a hungry day is never enough and makes me miserable so I could never stick to it for weeks anyway 😬
Well, we're here to help if you need us♥

Who is TC?
Sorry, haven't been on this thread much.

Tilly Cutler - she's on Instagram and I wasn't sure if she'd enough followers to be mentioned on Tattle.
It seems like all Tilly has to do is think about a diet and she looks amazing! She has the strongest willpower ever!!

I tend to do intermittent fasting most days which works for me because I’m a real evening eater so I tend to save my calories for the evening. I find this helps me a lot because I always have enough to have a nice dinner and chocolate bar or dessert after!
I have a good collection of lower calorie crisps and chocolate bits that I stick to so I can still have treats but just lower calorie ones. Crisps like pom bears, RingOs, space raiders these are all less than 70 calories. Then little chocolate bars like freddo, curlywurlys Or alpen bars they are all less than 120 calories.
Another good one is Hartley sugar free jelly. You can make the whole sachet and it’s only 36 calories. Have a little bit of lower calorie ice cream (or a portion of normal ice cream) is a nice dessert.
I’ve lost half a stone now in about 3 weeks and am happy with the progress. Got another stone to lose to get back to where I was last year.

I was with sw for about a year and I've not been a member for about 3 years now and still have disordered behaviour around food. Joining was the worst thing I ever did. I'm now stuck in a binge and restrict cycle and the heaviest I've ever been.
I could have wrote this myself! I lost 4 stone with them in about a year and a half, went through a tough time and it just completely buggered up my eating. I'm now 2 years on and a stone away from my heaviest!
Have been trying so hard to break that cycle and re-educate myself about food.
I'm calorie counting and using my Fitbit now, so far so good x
