those 80s/90s ones are just vomit inducing (sorry to anyone who has one from that time). I still don’t know if I’d cringe watching myself, but it might be worth looking into if they don’t have audio!

Getting married in September 2022, postponed from September this year due to Covid (we are having a destination wedding). Less than 30 people, and we have brilliant planners so not been too stressful yet!

Looking forward to chatting all things wedding related

I suppose 80 or 90s wedding videos were largely like the ones you saw clips of on You've Been Framed!

If you have the time/budget you could do a photo slide show - photos of you & your partner from the beginning of the relationship with brief/funny captions and anecdotes to detail the romance from start to finish? You could record it and just play it like a video or stand up and narrate it live as the photos are shown on screens?

I know a thing or two about weddings as we had to cancel puts 4 times during lock down
We got married legally in the pandemic and now have our wedding, new venue, different time of year next December

I decided to buy a new dress. The original one cost £600 but I will sell it. It just wasn't right for the venue or the season.

Anyway i just wanted to say that I tried on loads of dresses at Wed2b ....off the peg.
Fell in love with one dress that was £599 and the shop assistant pressured me so much to buy it, and her boss and there was such an atmosphere. It was awful. They told me this was the last dress ever and I will never have a chance to buy it again.
Blah blah blah
Went on Stillwhite and have bought the exact dress for £150
So I would definitely go try on dresses at Wed2b and see if you can pick up the same dress for a third of the price.
StillWhite is a good reputable website.
Loads of brides have cancelled their weddings so you can pick up a dress which has never been worn for a bargain

The things I'm confused about with planning a wedding -

who comes in and sets up? Do I have to do that with the groom before the wedding? Seems weird
who do I get ready with, and then who do I travel to the wedding with?
how do the timings work? and how do we know who walks in, and when
who sorts out the music for the aisle etc, is this something the venue usually sorts out? as in, who presses play lol

forgive me for sounding absolutely clueless (i am) I don't have a venue just yet so this is something I can ask them when I sort out a date!

If you have the wedding in any kind of registry office/church/specific wedding venue they will help you with regards to when you walk in etc - so don’t worry about that!

decorations - in some cases the venue will decorate the place for you, but you pay for this service, usually in with the wedding package. In other cases, yeah, you have to go in yourselves the night before or the morning of the wedding and decorate - or you ask trusted friends/family to help with that. You’d also have to go back to take all the decorations down….!

you can get ready with whoever you fancy but traditionally the bride gets ready with bridesmaids and sometimes mother of the bride. Obviously you don’t have to do any of that and it will depend on logistics and where your going to be on the day of the wedding (at your own home/in a hotel/someone else’s house etc)

The bride usually travels to the venue with the bridesmaids and father of the bride/brides parents. But again, that’s up to you.

groom and best men go to the venue first and will usually be there to say hello to arriving guests, with best men or ushers helping guests get to the right seats and handing out orders of service etc - bridal party (bride/bridesmaids/maid of honour/father of the bride/brides parents) arrive last after all guests are in and groom/best men are inside and ready to start!
music for walking the aisle will be discussed between you and the venue - be it a church/register office/hotel etc and yes a staff member will usually start & stop the music when appropriate

You know the last wedding I was at, I was a bridesmaid going out first. I was that nervous I didn’t even pay any attention to the song! I think a million dreams is lovely, it’s very cheerful, it would really set the tone.

I’m stuck on someone like you - Van Morrison and yours - Ella Henderson

I’m having Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles to walk down the aisle and then Hoppípolla by Sigur Rós for walking out after the wedding absolutely love music so had picked these out years ahead of booking the venue etc

With Christina Perri - A Thousand Years, I just associate it with Twilight and it’s in basically every wedding related reel I’ve seen on Instagram so seems a bit overdone.

Also anything E* S****** will be banned at our wedding

Ohhhh I'm sad this thread wasn't started earlier on in the year!
I've had my Vegas wedding cancelled about 17 times so me and my now husband decided on a UK wedding and gave ourselves 10 weeks to plan it and we did it!

Points of advice:
  • Music and food is key - all our guests are still talking about how amazing the food was and how much they loved the DJ
  • Invite who YOU AND YOUR PARTNER WANT - fuck anyone who is trying to muscle in on your guestlist or give unsolicited advice
  • Make sure you can sit down in your dress!
  • If your bridal shop attempts to not offer you your final fitting PUSH FOR IT. I had my fitting of my dress at the end of August, dress fitted fine so they didn't offer me the standard two weeks before final fitting. Well I lost weight so the dress looked a show (in my head, it looked fine but not how I imagined)
  • If you're having kids coming make them activity packs. We only had two (children of members of the bridal party) and I made them giftbags with colouring, play doh, kids digital camera, lego, some snacks and they were kept entertained the whole 10 hours of the reception
  • Make sure snacks are available for children - at my friends wedding the food was delayed by two hours due to there not being enough chairs, children were tantruming everywhere because they were starving. A few multipacks of crisps and Maryland cookies will be greatly appreciated
  • Make sure there's a good range of non-alcoholic drinks available for non-drinks / those who want to alternate with soft drinks
  • MAKE A BAG OF ESSENTIALS - i.e pain killers, antihistamenes, phone chargers, plasters, hair brush, deo, hair spray, rennies etc. I did this at my friends and my wedding and they were greatly appreciated
  • Have a multitool on hand just incase - all my mates LAUGHED THEIR HEADS OFF when I said I was bringing my leatherman with me - oh and guess who needed it to fix door handles, file nails, take out corks etc? Oh yes, all the friends who laughed at it!
  • I am a project manager and my life is pretty rigid - I love a spreadsheet - and I hadn't accounted enough time in the morning for everyone getting ready and we were 10 mins behind schedule for the first look, so however long you think something will take double it! (I'm never late so this 10 mins behind schedule was giving me the sweats!)
  • Do whatever YOU want - as me and my husband were meant to be getting married in Vegas, we tried to keep the UK wedding as non-traditional as possible so we spent the night together before and then all the bridal party (inc groomsmen) had breakfast and got ready together the morning of. So many people were horrified at us doing this but it was absolutely perfect for us and I wouldn't change it at all
  • Recommend a first look - takes the pressure off you both in the ceremony. We could be as mushy as we wanted in the house in private, then we were all smiles and calm going in to do the vows - although Mr Momsen had the sweatiest palms still during the ceremony! His reaction to seeing me was a lot more natural as well as it was just our bridal party there to watch
  • THE DJ - be strict with your DJ. My friends wedding he ended up playing every cheesy wedding song going, and when all our friendship group are goths the dancefloor was empty. For ours our DJ got our vibe right away and the dancefloor was filled from the first dance to when the plug was pulled
  • CAKES - we went for Patisserie Valerie cakes and some cupcakes. Having the cupcakes made guests feel like they were able to go and eat them, instead of standing on ceremony waiting for the cake cut. No wasted cake for us!
  • Invest in the -
    • Music
    • Food
    • Photos
    • Hair & make up
We had our reception in a function room over a little independent restaurant, we were their first wedding, and it was literally the best day of our lives. So relaxed and laid back. We decorated it together, we took it all down together, we went back to the restaurant yesterday for something to eat and all the staff were like "omg can it be your wedding again, it was the best night, so different and so fun"

I always thought that A Thousand Years was about the love you feel for a child. Someone trying to have a baby for a long time and then becoming a parent?! I’ve never viewed it as a romantic love song for a couple or for a wedding!

Oh wow I've never heard that parent / child interpretation of the lyrics! Cute!

I love The Vow by RuthAnne! I think it's so beautiful. I would like it is an entrance song for me walking up the aisle.

Update:

we finalised our date, booked registrar etc today. I have 17 weeks to plan a wedding. Photographer, venue and registrar are booked, nothing else though
