Video Games #2

I would like to start playing video games again. The last console I had was ps3. I may wait until new years before deciding if I'll buy a console. I want to play Witcher 4, but the release date for that may not be until 2028.

I'm hoping the upcoming Star Wars game, Eclipse, will be released by then as well, but that game and the studio behind it seem to be very vague on what's going on with that. There are many staff members being laid off it seems, so I've no idea, but so much of the game has already been completed, apparently.

Not to turn this into a whole PC master race rit thing, but just buy a PC. It's cheaper, you'll get more use, more games to play etc. It can be upgraded in 5-8 years time depending on what you put in it. It is ultimately better. Yes it takes up room and you can't lob it in your car & bring it round your mates etc but if you're considering gaming again I recommend a pc over console.

Also hard swerve on gta6, their build up has been a let down. I haven't seen a single reveal beyond their adverts but I just wasn't impressed with 5. I played more vice city in the last few years than I have 5 :ROFLMAO:

I do wish that Rockstar would merge locations in a GTA game rather than focus on one location. Maybe even create a new location or more. I'm really eager to see the next Red Dead Redemption, but it's going to be ages until we see that.

I'm really intrigued to see where they go with the next red dead. They've obviously done the end of the old west and then a bit of the backstory behind that so would be interesting if they make a whole new set of characters or what time period they would go for.

I see sony are letting people lease a PS5 for €32.99 a month with GTA 6.

I'd be tempted to lease for a couple of months, but it's 12 month contract.

I really want to boycott the whole industry with this push to digital only.

I feel conflicted as I don't agree with the push to digital at all but I have caved and preordered GTA

Yeah, at the moment it's just fans predicting what will be the plot, characters, etc. Some saying it will be set late 1800s/early 1900s, maybe even the start of the great depression with brand new characters. Maybe having the mafia intertwined somehow.

RDR went back in time with the games, right? So RDR1 was set later than RDR2? So going by that, maybe they will set 3 in an earlier period to 2, maybe starting it 20/30 years earlier with a focus on a native american plot.

I just think that would be getting too far away from the western genre for me if it was late 1880s early 1900s! We already have the mafia games (which I enjoy - mafia 2 is another of my favourite ever games)

Yes red dead 1 was set later than red dead 2. You mainly play as John Marston and are sent to find the old gang so you meet Dutch, Uncle and a few of the other characters from RDR2 etc

The native American plot sounds good. Like you said anyways that's probably another 10 years off 🤣 I do love they take time to create and put out polished games though

Yeah I really disagree with digital only but I will be getting GTA 6 🙈 looks like the ps5 will be my last console as any games released after 2028 will be digital only.

Do you still need to preorder GTA, even if it's digital? I thought preorder would mostly be for physical.
Good point, I'm not sure. tbh the reason I preordered was it was cheaper via Shop to and I wasn't sure if the deal would be available when it's released

Don't need to pre-order, but we did as a) had the cash free at the time, b) was a deal, and c) it'll auto-download ready to dive in at launch o'clock.

PC Gamer so I use Steam mainly and I do sometimes pre-order games. It just starts downloading as soon as it's available really and sometimes it will also pre-download so it's ready to play as soon as it's released.

I will never forgive the makers of RDR2 for breaking my heart at the last fight with Arthur. If I had known what was going to happen I’d’ve swapped my horse before starting it. It literally took me about an hour to stop crying about my horse, and I’m still not over it…

So not only will you not own the game, but you won’t own your console either? Madness.

I could understand leasing for a couple of months, but not longer term. Or am I missing something? 😅

Surely it’s better to either buy a PS5 and resell it, or buy one second hand? Or get one on 0% finance and split the payments. €33 a month isn’t far off what you’d pay for one outright after 12 months.

Are they?! That's mental.
I remember you could rent consoles and games from my local video shop.

I'm torn on the digital issue; if you buy a game and it's yours, I'm all for it. But when they remove them, or restrict play, that just seems unethical.

People argue that movies are all streaming now and it's "...just the same" but it really isn't. You are paying for a service, there, and not an individual product. If you pay for a game, it should be yours and accessible forever.
I've old consoles and games stretching back 20+ years and can play any of those.

As others have said, the benefit of pre-ordering digitally is that it should be ready to play on launch, right there on your console/PC.
The other benefit is that pre-orders often come with bonus content.

They have been doing leases for a while, it's completely bonkers, when they first started it, one of the deals I think 3 year you were paying more in the end than what the console was worth

At that point you'd be as well buying on credit an at least you'd own it by the end

An if everything moves to digital I'll look to pirating, if am not fully owning it then am not paying for it
