Quite a few years ago I went through a phase of waking regularly at 3.02am. It was the weirdest thing.

So I have a small b and b I’ve been here the past 4 years and I live upstairs and the guests are down stairs. Last year there was a single man in room 3 and at breakfast he said the tv had come on in the middle of the night about 3am and it scared him silly. I kind of laughed it off and totally forgot about it. Since this incident the tv in the room has been upgraded, the next time a couple, later on in the year said their tv came on by itself about 3am. I’d forgotten that it was a new tv and said it’s happened before it’s probably an electrical surge or something, not that I know about electrical issues.
So a few weeks ago a French couple were in the same room and they said the tv switched itself on at 3am and this morning a couple from no nonsense Yorkshire said the tv had come on in the middle of the night, I said it wasn’t around 3am was it and they were like how did you know.
I know for a fact the French couple never even touched their tv I always let people know how to use it and they said it’s ok we don’t need to know we won’t watch it.
So if we do have a ghost they’ve been pretty lazy with the haunting up to now then twice in a couple of weeks.
After saying that though how many people haven’t noticed as apparently it comes on for a few seconds then goes off and how many people have just thought oh power surge 🤷‍♀️

Every night I fall asleep in front of the telly, I refuse to go to bed, I'm 51 and this stems from being told to go to bed as a child 😂Most nights I will wake at 3am.

Growing up I lived in a haunted home where we heard, felt, smelt, and saw spirits
But One thing we used to have happen often is just before a death would occur (family, friends neighbours etc) we would get a physical sign mostly it would be pictures that would come off off the wall as though they had been thrown, the string would never be broken and the hooks would still be firmly in place
But one time that sticks in my mind was a few hours before our elderly neighbour died the light bulb in our landing ceiling light shot out of the fitting it went with such a force my mum actually thought their had been explosion in the building, it didn't even break the glass it was all intact a few hours later we got the news that our neighbour and passed over
The last time it happened before I moved out was just before my mums uncle died I was sitting on the sofa just watching TV when the picture next to me flung itself off the wall but this time I felt spirit next to me It was actually the strongest feeling of spirit I've ever had it only lasted maybe a minute or two and it was gone
Me and my mum just turned to each other and said it won't be long now he passed the next day
My mum still lives there it still happens to this day

I read both threads with great interest (on daytime!! ) and some of the stories are actually terrifying, well to me!

I don’t have much to share just wanted to add a few quite insignificant things.

My beloved grandparents both passed away on the same date, 2 months apart. My grandpa first and then grandma. Not long ago after his death grandma would say she saw her husband. Not in the dream but that he was visiting her. One time we found out the door on her flat was unlocked and open. When we asked why she replied that grandpa came again. We asked if he’s been asking her to go with him, she said no, he just came to visit so that’s why the door was open.
I’m not a great believer in afterlife but it gave me a huge comfort knowing that maybe….maybe there is something and we will see our loved ones again.
After she died, I was a mess, we were very close, I grew up with both of them. I remember sobbing and crying and basically begging her to give me some sign that she’s here. Anything. Move something. Open something. But nothing.

Only thing which kinda spoked me a bit but I’m like 100% is explained easily by simple physics.
My grandma had a glass candle holder for years. After her husband died we lit a candle there, every day for hours.
After her death me and mum used it to lit a candle for her. On the evening after her funeral when everyone left and we were tidying up the flat, my mum noticed that the candle holder had a big chunk missing, just broken off. It wasn’t shattered, just a piece neatly broken off and lying next to it.
We looked at each other a bit puzzled as to why and how it happened. My rational mind when to the fact that it had something to do with heat distribution and glass expanding and everything. My mum said that the grandma let us know that the candle holder won’t be needed anymore. It was there for years, went through her husbands and hers funeral and now it’s job was done, we won’t be using it again.
Sorry the long and probably not really sense making post.

Apart from Uncanny, A Ghost Story, Witch Trials, Haunted UK… what are good spooky podcast recommendations? I’ve listened to Him Harold’s Campfire and Radio Rentals too, but would love some other decent ones to give a go.

Real Life Ghost Stories is brilliant. Graveyard Tales is a mixture of spooky, cryptids, weird things, things we don't understand, and dad jokes. Ghosts N Bears, Mysteries and Monsters, and Haunted Road are others I listen to. Astonishing Legends for deep, deep dives into stuff similar to Graveyard Tales but really deep dives, several parts and hours worth.

I wrote a bit further up about pictures falling off the wall before a death at my mums house
Well I'm sitting on the sofa just on the phone to my mum, and just behind me I've got some venetian masks hanging up and one has just fallen down right next to me the hook is still firmly up and the string has not broken there's no way it can just fall without being lifted off

The last couple of days I've been smelling cigarette smoke too just for a few seconds and it's gone none of us smokes

"Witch" on BBC sounds is fantastic, as is the Witches Of Scotland podcast (on their website)

Oh, also on YouTube there's a channel called Eerie Edinburgh which has tons of really good, true life, Scottish ghost stories. They're not as long as podcasts, but more audio based that visual so a similar format, I just let the entire playlist run on repeat while I'm asleep as I have issues sleeping.

When my Nana died my Grandad moved in with my Auntie. My aunt would often say that my Grandad's room smelt of cigarette smoke. Non of them smoked but Nana did ....

Back in the early 90's, through work, I had to go to Friern Hospital in Colney Hatch, London. It was a an old Victorian Asylum and had previously been known as Conley hatch Lunatic Asylum. I went there a few times when it was operation and I always found it a creepy place. It has the longest corridor in Europe.

Anyway, the place closed in 1993 and stood empty awaiting development. I was called there because there was some structural issues and I was to meet a colleague there and the security man. It was one of those early winters evening at about 4.30 so getting dark. I got there and couldn't see anyone but the main door was open. I went inside and started walking through looking for the security guy. I walked through a couple of corridors and past some offices .I didn't get very far when I was just so overcome with an urge to get out that I literally ran back outside. A really weird sense of forbodding came over me. I didn't see anything but It was just so creeped out I literally ran back to my car. It just felt very dark inside there.

The main building is still there and it was turned into luxury apartments that had various celebs live in them from time to time but I would never in a million years have bought one. the residual energy in that building must be off the scale.

I think my friend may have lived in one of the newer apartments near here as I remember her telling me about the site being an old asylum! Very creepy

Before I was born when my brother was a toddler, my mum had a dream about a body that was laid under a cloth and she kept walking and then running towards the bed to try and get the cover off but she couldn't catch up with the bed to do it.

She rang my gran (her mum) as one of grans sisters had a husband who was very poorly and had been for some time and she suspected it might be about him but all was well there and said aunt laughed at mums dream and called her a jonah.

A couple of hours later, mum received a telephone call from her sister in law (my dad's sister) trying to get in touch with my dad who was at work at the time.

Sister/SIL had gone in to wake her mum (my gran on dad's side) up and get her ready for the day after arriving at her house and found that shed died in bed overnight.

Still gives us all goosebumps thinking about it. There's been other small things here and there but that was the most overt for her .

Eta remembered another: my dad was the youngest of his siblings by quite a few years as he was a war baby (never knew his dad because he was killed in the war before dad was born). His brother had joined the army and gone to fight in Aiden after lying about his age and had seen things noone should, never mind a young boy.

As a result he was an alcoholic and drank to live with the terrors of what he'd seen. His mum (my gran as in the first story) heard him coughing one morning and thought she'd take him a cup of tea in bed and found him dead in bed after a heart attack (he'd coughed his already weakened heart and body into one it was believed at the time.) it was obviously a shock and everyone was grieving deeply, especially my dad as he was the closest in age to him and lived at home when dad was growing up when not away. Dad swears that he visited him one night (he saw him come into the room and felt him sit on the edge of the bed) after his funeral and told him that it was alright, that he was now at peace and happy and it was OK for him to carry on.

Something odd happened yesterday. I woke up and on the little shelf thing next to the bed are my antihistamines that I keep at my boyfriend’s house. I also take some vitamins and the contraceptive pill which I keep in my bag because they go home with me. I took the vitamins and the pill like normal, went to take the antihistamine and as I went to pick up the packet, there was one single contraceptive pill on the shelf in front of it. I picked it up and asked my boyfriend if he’d found it and put it there, and he looked at me like I was mad. Anyway, I checked the packet and the pill labelled Monday (today) was missing, and I hadn’t noticed. It was so weird, that pill seemed deliberately placed somewhere I would definitely see it.

Someone is looking out for me and doesn’t want me to get pregnant 😂😂

I have a spirit board with a glass top. I never use it though, I'm too scared. One of the cats sometimes skids across the glass top and moves the planchette though....hopefully that doesn't count in the realms as an attempt at communication.. 😂
I'm still slowly reading through the back posts and I've just gotten to the ouija board stuff, it's reminded me of another family woo tale.

My mum should have two younger sisters but sadly they both died a few weeks after birth from the same condition (the letter my mum sitll has from the doctor telling my grandparents that they're not compatible and to not have more children is brutal. It arrived the day of the second babys funeral!)

My gran and a couple of her sisters used an ouija board one night a good 15 years or more after the first baby's death. They were trying to contact the babies to give grandma some comfort and got through to the elder one who told them that the youngest was still too young to come through but everything was OK. Then a second spirit came through. This one was not nice. One of my aunts had remarried after first husband died. Her second husband was very poorly as mentioned in my last post. The spirit kept pushing the glass to 'kill [poorly husbands name] on repeat and they got scared and stopped. They never did it again and my mum won't even entertain one when my cousin suggested it to see if her sisters or mum would come through.

Yeah, I've always thought I'd have a complete meltdown if I ever saw a ghost and the house would be on purple bricks before the ghost could disappear! However, my friend said she got up in the middle of the night one time and was doing her business on the toilet when she looked in the corner and saw a woman just standing there but she just felt really calm and she just sort of faded away. I always remember this story everytime I get up now in the middle of the night. Now why anyone would want to watch someone on the john is beyond me!
I know I’m quoting an older post here but reading this was like listening to a conversation with my mum. Her house is definitely active and she often sees female figures when she gets up in the night for the toilet. Says they don’t scare her though, it’s over too quick. I’d just get a multipack of tena ladies and some rubber sheets if that was me, I’m too much of a wimp to handle that!

Same haha. The girl I was sitting by in work today was telling us about seeing a woman walk past her bathroom door in the middle of the night... I was then on edge going to the office toilets for the rest of the day. That's what I'm like in daylight, with 200 people about 😂
