No onboard staff means people will just fare dodge more. I think especially during the evening knowing a member of staff is on the train makes people feel a little bit safer.
This is what I was interested in - will the loss in revenue outweigh the cost of staff? Especially as a lot of stations don’t have ticket barriers

Was meant to have a mini break end of November/early December to see some family in Birmingham but had to cancel due to health reasons. I'm glad we didn't go because the trains were on strike for the day we were due back!

Oh great @CrackingOwlSanctuary 🙈 We have had zero services on our line since Tuesday (even on non-strike days) but it is complicated by engineering works on the other side of Birmingham. Let's hope that threats of further strikes will make the negotiations more fruitful going forwards.

Great so over half term again. I'm sure I'm not the only one to have already bought tickets. I thought finally things had been sorted and trains were OK to use and start planning ahead.
Nothing is sorted. Yet. The pay talks have a proposal Aslef happy with and will go out to drvs vote the the next few weeks.
Theyll be no national strikes whilst that is happening

The LNER ones are different and separate to the pay dispute so even if LNER agree the pay rise deal proposed there strikes could still go ahead

Personally I think something will be settled as no one especially Drivers want to strike for that long. Big loss of pay.

I'm travelling literally in between the strike days, luckily there's not a massive time frame of where I need to go so will be interesting to see what it's like. Feel bad for those going to Glasto though, major disruption.

I'm travelling for work today. Numerous trains cancelled this morning due to a lack of drivers so I had to get my tickets changed. I'm having to stay an extra night so I can try and get home on Wednesday buy I'm dreading it. The conductor told me transpennie are cancelling all trains until Sunday although nothing on their website. Luckily I'm going on a different route home so there's some hope.

My family member who works at the airport all night doing a 12 hour shift travels 61 miles each way to get to work and home, sometimes, mostly Sundays it takes him 3+ plus hours to get home. He works weekends too. He doesn’t whine about it he just gets on with it. He does 4 nights on 4 nights off. He knows the train journey can be erratic so he leaves early to compensate for that. He’s also paid to spend 4 nights in a hotel nearer to the airport when the strikes are on. So yes it’s fine that he will more than likely lose his job this time as he has had disciplinary action taken against him for being absent after being told that he knew what the journey would be like before he took the job on. What he didn’t know was that there would be rail strikes. So yes, I will be angry about these strikes.
That doesn't mean people rejecting this deal isn't a valid decision. Most of them would take the straight pay rise, even with a few conditions attached but the government has gotten greedy. If you take the time to properly read through what has been offered to the RMT conditions wise you will see agreeing that deal will essentially see thousands of people lose their jobs in the near future. Why would anyone vote for that?

Sipport for union is def waning at depots
Pretty sure this mandate only runs for another month or so (was voted in in June) so just waiting to see if that reflects in the recent ballot

One of the depots at my company has had an 02:25 book on in the past, they were thrilled you can imagine!
For Drivers the standard earliest at my depot is 0319,, but with engineering work we often have a 0240

Some depots have night links, but mine doesn't even tho the latest finsh is 0354

Livid!

Just got back to the office full time and now the RMT are going on strike.

Haven't people and businesses suffered enough?

Everyone will be affected, the whole network is closing down.

In London, on the Tuesday, tubes are also going on strike, London will be on lock down again

I travelled on the day in between the strikes and it was still utter chaos. Hopefully though with it being one day it won't be as bad

I fully understand the frustration but the issues outside of the industrial action would still be present even if they all agreed to terms tomorrow. The problems are far deeper than that and the government don't want to get into that financial quagmire.

For instance the Castlefield corridor in Manchester, still the same now as it was when it was built in Victorian times. The rail traffic over this key stretch of line has increased slightly since then, and any slight delay to a service using it can cause catastrophic knock ons across the rail network resulting in delays and cancellations. It won't be sorted though because it would cost a fortune.
