Hi does anyone have any advice? For a while now my son, he’s 22 months, at about 4.30/5am he starts getting really restless, kicking his legs, tossing and turning and moaning, if I get in quick enough and hold him sometimes he’ll go back to sleep but most of the time he wakes up. He’s still tired when he wakes though but just won’t go back to sleep. I’ve no idea what could be waking him up. Thank you!

Yes it was all really bizzare. They said they've noticed it the past couple of weeks but they've only said something today, but still said "nothing to worry about!". He has been going to nursery since he was 9 months told, he was 5 days a week but since last month he has dropped down to 2 as I have gone part time at work.

Thank you for your advice I will give them an email I think and ask them to elaborate further - I completely agree. Thank you :)

Hi guys,

New to this thread. I’m just wondering if anyone can advise on possible autism? Or more specifically, how many symptoms of autism can actually be normal development things?

My daughter is showing a lot of signs of autism and I’m not sure what to do.
How old is your daughter and what things are you noticing that is making you think she may be on the spectrum?

I don’t think you need to get a grip at all. How old is he? My daughter is 3.5 and will be starting preschool in September. She is fab, but extremely unsure around strangers and I and absolutely terrified at the thought of her going (and I’ve done it twice before!). I think it’s natural to worry how they will settle, and especially since you have other concerns as well which could make the settling more difficult.
I have no advice, but just that it will come and you will deal with whatever it throws at you ❤
He’s not long turned 3. He’s never really experienced social interaction with children - we have no family or friends with children and a lot of groups in our area are still closed due to covid. I have told the nursery our concerns and that he may just seem like he’s being difficult but he just won’t understand the setting in the beginning, he’s only ever been looked after by family who have just let him do whatever (no structure I mean) the nursery have been lovely about it and I’m sure he’ll blossom there but it’s just that initial concern!! 😥

I don’t know whether she’s too old for one, have you ever used one?

she slept through till 5:50am😳 I woke up twice thinking where is she 😂
My daughter is 4 and uses one.
We started using it around 2 and a half and it took a little whilst for her to understand but got the hang of it.
I'd say 3 is a perfect age.

She knows that once it turns yellow, she can come into us.

Could you pick up a large travel cot or blow up bed type thing from anywhere today? Unsure where abouts you are! Tuesday is still another 4 nights (if my brain is working right 🤣) so might be worth it to enjoy the rest of your holiday without worrying about sleep?

Also yes definitely normal, my 2 year old just runs away most of the time. I have a lovely 820000 pictures of the back of his head though 👍🏼😂
I had a travel cot in the room and she slept in it the first night as she was exhausted but after that she didn’t want to, she climbed out🙄 yeah I’m just feeling so tired today! She’s in a right mood again and I dunno what’s going on with her, about to leave to go to the pool and she’s had a meltdown over getting dressed even though she said pool clothes to me. Had enough today 😡 we’ve had abit more of a chilled morning but I refuse to sit in the apartment all day abroad!

Joining this thread - mum of a 17mo.
Have coslept since around 7months old. He usually falls asleep on our bed then we move him over to his cot (still in our room as I just can't bare the thought of putting him in his own room yet!) He will sometimes sleep in there for a good run, sometimes between 5-6 hours but then cries to come back with us. Sometimes we can soothe him back to sleep in his cot, but ultimately he ends up back with us. But then on some nights, i Just leave him in with us!

As much as I love cosleeping with him, sometimes it's a nightmare as he can be such a wriggler and wakes us up by kicking us!

Is anyone else still cosleeping, or have done until this time? How did you/are you planning on moving over to stay in their own cots?
Have you considered moving him to a floor bed? We moved my eldest son at 20 months to a floor bed, I would lie with him to go to sleep, and then when he woke in the night bring him back in with us. My 3yo is in a double so she sleeps alone until she wakes up then my husband sleeps in with her. All my older ones have then slept longer and longer stretches alone once In their bed.

I fear this may be a long post so sorry in advance!
My little boy is 3 soon and his speech is non existent at the moment. He turned 1 during the first lockdown so he’s technically missed out a vital year or so. He doesn’t start nursery til Spring (hoping this brings on his speech) can anyone maybe recommend any activities/apps/books that have helped with your child’s speech?
Also he’s not potty trained yet. Haven’t even tried. Any tips would also be great.
❤
Do you sit and talk to him? Pick up objects and sound out what it is in front of him? Does he make noises that he uses for specific items? (Like making the mmmmmm sounds to signify mummy for example??)

Ah sorry I've read half a conversation and just jumped in with my big mouth 🙈

MiniGlenCoco's tablet is the Amazon Fire tablet for kids though so not sure if that's the same as what @nurserewas talking about?
Yeah that's the one.
It works fine for Netflix downloads and stuff?

thank you! That’s what I do, make sure he’s awake for 2. It’s just he’s began waking at 5am/5.30/5.45 I was starting to wonder if the naps were the reason why!
What time does he go to bed at night? Do you have a blackout blind or something on the window to keep the room nice and dark?

You can download a certain amount that you can watch without WiFi. We do it with MiniGlenCoco when we do long journeys. Think we had about 6 different programmes and about 5 episodes (depending on length of episodes etc).

We've also got Disney Plus and Amazon Prime on her tablet that you can also download from so that she cam watch without WiFi.

Just make sure that everything is downloaded and working before you set off. Many times we've forgotten and it's been a nightmare 🙈 although you can use the hot spot on your phone but it is very slow
Yeah we do that already with the old phone she uses in the car. Have a bunch of stuff on Disney and netflex predownloaded. It's great until you drive off and realise they all need redownloading 😂.

@nurseren mentioned that the kindle fire can't be used without WiFi.
Which I know some things are that way. That you can't even access apps ect without WiFi connection.

So if that's the same, you wouldn't even be able to access the tablet and apps without being connected 🤔

I’m potty training my nearly 2.5 year old for just over a month. He’s amazing when he’s not wearing anything on his bottom half, he’ll take himself off to the potty when he needs it. He’s doing quite well in trousers at home, he’ll have the odd accident but they’re really infrequent. However, the moment we go out or he goes to nursery he has more wet accidents than successes (he very rarely if ever poos his pants) even when we remind him of the potty or take him to sit down and try. Sometimes he’ll wet himself straight after we’ve taken him to the toilet. I always make him stop and change his trousers and pants before he’s allowed to carry on playing, we give him loads of praise when he does go on the potty, he has a special sticker chart that he colours in for each time he goes to the toilet. Is there anything I could be doing to help him when we’re out and about?
I’m at a bit of a loss and am starting to feel like I’m doing something wrong because I don’t think we’ve had any success in the potty when we’re out

How old is she? My girl suffers so much with her teeth the only thing that helps is anbesol liquid. I’d check with her parents they’re happy for her to have it first though. With food you can give melon, yoghurt, rice pudding, frozen bananas blended up is good. Try to offer the usual things but with some softer bits so she has the option.
She's just turning 16m, we went out an got some of those 7m food packets cause its blended up since usually she has what we have an anything she needs to chew she's spitting back out the now, but she's not for even having those, we have tried her with her yougurts but after two spoons it's a no, I'll look into that anbesol liquid an try it, honestly my bro an his wife are exhausted, it's how I've had her since wed an keeping her till Sunday, so if anything we can find works they said it's fine, we just need somthing that will sooth her

Don’t beat yourself up about pinning down, I have to lie my 2.5yr old son down between my legs with my legs over his arms to brush his teeth every day! Lol he’s so used to it now it’s like a game we play where he runs away and wants me to catch him.
But he is the same as your daughter in that he will not take any medicine so I can’t pin him down in that case he will vomit it all up and just gag even if it taste nice!!! But if you are able to get the medicine into her again I would recommend nurofen for the pain, it’s definitely better than calpol.

Luckily my son has all his teeth through now and I don’t really remember it being hugely painful for him so I don’t have much advice other than the nurofen and we have a dummy so that always helped or those things you can chew, they’re called “chewz” on Amazon - they’re great to bite all the tension away. Good luck x

ETA - sorry just read that you gave ibuprofen. Well you’ve done all you can so fingers crossed she’s not as back when she comes back home and her dad copes well with her too! X
Oh my god! This is me to a T with her too😂 she runs off and I also have to pin her down to clean her teeth!!!! Bloody toddlers! 😂 I hope so, the last week has been hard! Although the bad days/weeks are few and far between generally she sleeps well etc no problems 😌

How come nurofen is better than calpol? I just always give calpol for pain x

I feel like our timings are quite similar so napping until 4 in some cases for us he still goes to bed at 7 and usually is fine. I find that we transition quickly from living area we do dinner chill time teeth and then go to bedroom at about 6:45 so no story or anything we just go in he climbs up into bed head on pillow and pulls the cover over him. I then turn the light off and climb the other side of him and breastfeed baby on the other side of me and just lie there until they both fall asleep - usually takes anywhere between 10 minutes and 30 mins. However there are occasions maybe once a week it can take up to an hour. But then I move baby to other room and they both sleep through.
To note also that 2 year old sleeps in one room with my partner with a double bed and open side cot so bedsharing basically and my partner goes to bed later on. Baby sleeps in a super kingsize bed with me in the other bedroom. But we all get great sleep this way and my 2 year old never wakes up unless he’s feeling ill.

We are really struggling to get our two and a half year old son to brush his teeth. I've lost count of how much money I've spent on different toothbrushes, electric ones, one of the ones that are mouthguards specifically designed for children that brush for them...he just won't entertain it! At most he will chew on the toothbrush for a few seconds. If we try to do it for him it results in an absolute meltdown. Anyone else have this problem? I am scared for a time when we have to take him to the dentist because he will go ballistic!

Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory- so it will reduce the inflammation in the body and will reduce pain. Paracetamol will only reduce pain.

My 2.5 year old (when she was closer to 2) had 3 hours a day, until she started waking at 5am and I capped it to 1 hour 45. I know some 2 year olds who don’t nap at all. Every child is different xx
thank you!
My little boy has started waking up between 5-5.45 and weren’t sure if it was the nap and having too much sleep that was making him wake so early x

I think you just need to bite the bullet. Just say to her “ohhhh guess what, tomorrow we are doing something really exiting!!” And then really hype it up, get her excited and just do it. And if she doesn’t like it, show her it’s ok - it’s safe, just go easy. See if your local pool has a separate baby pool or mum & children sessions so it’s a bit more age appropriate.

have you tried getting a small, cheap paddling pool and giving her a bath in that in the house? You can get those Small ones and if you did it so it was just deep enough for her to sit in with legs covered, you could used a jug of warm water to do a quick rinse/soap/hair wash etc
Lol yep! We brought the paddling pool in at one point and tried that but she still freaked out. I only ever fill the bath up a tiny amount now because she refuses to sit down, so just wash and rinse with a jug.

tried more water/less water/ no water in the bath and nothing helped. Swimming is definitely the next option!
