I'd personally stop for a while and then try again at a later date, my son was 3 in March and is only now ready. If it's causing you both stress/upset then stop, it won't help either of you right now x
Yeah I think you’re right. I got annoyed and had a snap at him earlier and ever since I’ve been in tears over it and feeling so guilty I think leaving it for now is maybe for the best

Far too much pressure is put on us as parents, and children, to potty train by a certain age. If a child isn't ready they aren't ready. I actually had to tell my son's nursery to stop banging on at me about it - they were quick to say he's got the understanding and speech of a 1-1.5 year old but yet expect him to be fully toilet trained. Makes no sense. Hopefully in a couple more weeks yours will be ready and take to it better

Oh god there’s so much pressure on potty training. I fell out with my mum the other week because she kept harping on about it. She said to me that I “need to have it done by august or he won’t get into nursery” which isn’t true and I fully know that but it still stressed me out majorly. I think you’re right, another couple weeks and hopefully we’ll both be ready, thank you

Honestly what is it with mums. My mum has been banging on about it since last bloody summer!!! I am thankful we’re finally doing jt so she’ll shut up
She kept telling me she just had to do it with me cos we had to have it done for school. Well that was 25 years ago doesn’t apply now.
They’re so annoying aren’t they

it can be so stressful.

I think this is my third or fourth attempt and he sort of started it off himself. I left the potty out and his pants off and just kept following him around for a few days ready to catch his wee I know this approach probably isn’t correct but it worked and he started weeing and pooing in it on his own accord.
good luck

Oh my god YES that’s exactly what mine said to me! I ended up saying well you can bloody do it then since you’re determined, that kept her quiet for a bit at the end of the day it’s what ever works isn’t it?
BUT I have an update, in the three hours (I think) since I wrote my original post, he has done three pees and a poo in the potty! We cheered and he was so happy and he helps me take the potty upstairs to say bye bye to pee pee! So basically (as per) I think I’ve been stressing over nothing because he’s happily sitting on the potty himself and is so proud of himself, as am I! 🥹

Hahaha sorry I am just laughing because this was me on Saturday. Came on here having a breakdown and in the afternoon he’d been on the potty . Bloody kids
Mine takes his upstairs to and puts it down the loo he claps and goes yehhhh when he’s done something
I didn’t speak to my mum for three weeks cos she was driving me up the wall. Things are different these days to when we were growing up

I am very happy for you

It’s so weird seeing mine in underpants.
I ordered four packs from Asda . He had 2 accidents at nursery which I really don’t think is bad at all considering we started on Saturday. He’s done a and a wee since we got
Home as well 🥹

Hahahah I’m just glad I’m not the only one aw bless him, the clapping sounds so sweet thank you so much, you’ve really saved my sanity today

Bloody typical! Oh I know, he’s just brought the potty through to the kitchen while I was making tea saying “look mama!” Now I’m sobbing again! thank you so much for your kind words earlier!

I was soooo nervous all morning like I actually had stomach ache and cos we had an accident before we’d even got to nursery I was even more shook. But I can’t expect him to be “trained” on his first day at without me
I had to go and Get him a new potty and take it to nursery when I picked him up cos theirs is too small. They tried him with the toilet but he prefers a potty for now
Honestly you don’t realise how daunting it is until you start
Does yours go to nursery

Do you think if I complain about how mine doesn’t nap, it’ll make her start to nap? Desperate at this stage but that’s twice in 48 hours it’s happened now on this thread so there must be some kind of magic happening

Why do others always bang on about them potty training. I had to keep saying she's not ready yet, I really don't think she's too old either.
I do agree though about them being so grown up!
I actually felt a bit sad when she sat on the toilet and did a big wee

I think it’s gunna be one of those weeks mini A was up early yesterday morning and up at 5.30 today cos she had blueberry in her eye and wouldn’t go back to sleep hopefully she has a lie in tomorrow or else it’s just gunna be hard work when we are both tired 🫠

At what age should a toddler be able to recognise social cues? My daughter has really come out of her shell and is able to make friends but she doesn’t seem to understand when they want space. She is quite intense and will get into their personal space and is a bit pushy and shovy. She doesn’t seem to recognise when the other child wants her to back off.

I don't really know what age they learn this. But my 5 year old wouldn't be able to tell this unless they told her directly

Mine has had a wee at nursery today or yesterday that wasn’t an accident. One of the teachers tried all morning and he won’t wee for them

At nursery my daughter always refuses the fish pie so they’ve started giving her tomato pasta instead and I have no issue with this. I’m strict with dinner and if she doesn’t want to eat it that’s fine, I don’t pressure her but I refuse to cook a second dinner. It just made me think at what point do you accept they don’t actually like something e.g. fish compared with just being a fussy toddler?

If they try and refuse it twice, i normally wait a few months and try it again. If they dont like it again, i'll leave it 6 months or so and maybeeee try again. It depends.
And then i'd accept they dont like it haha.
But the second time, I'll put it with other bits. So they've got plenty if they don't like it again.

We've had several things my kids didn't like a year or 2 ago but like now. And other things they still won't eat. As well as things they used to like but don't now

my child is like this - she expects that every child will want to play with her and gets upset when they don’t. She’s only 3.5 so it’s just one of those things, I’ve asked her to ask the child if they want to play and if they say no, there’s maybe someone else here who is feeling lonely and wants a friend. She plays well on her own too though

I have wondered this in the past. And I read a nutritionist say basically you just keep trying forever, as even adults can change their mind and start to like something. I think keeping offering is the best way, as my 10yo eats a variety of food now she wouldn’t have wen she was little (and also doesn’t eat some things she would have back then )
But I hate sausages. And no amount of exposure will ever convince me otherwise
I think this is why it’s important to offer safe foods, so that if they genuinely do just hate something they still have things to choose from.
