Not sure which is the right thread to ask this on, but travelling with kids - looking at going away next year with a 3 year old and a 6 month old. Can I take our double buggy to the gate and then they put it in hold? And what’s the situation with car seats on coach transfers? We only have the Joie 360s so not possible to travel with them and I don’t particularly want to buy seats just for the holiday. If I go through a company eg Tui/Neilson, does anyone know if they provide them? The logistics are blowing my mind but I desperately need a holiday!

depends on airline possibly, but yes most allow you to take buggies to the gate. Be aware you may not get it back on the tarmac, quite often they are still sent indoors to the carousel.
Buses we usually just have them on our lap, but have never done a coach transfer type bus.

Oh good luck 😅. You can take the pram to the gate. And then I think it comes back with the bags tho on the belt I can’t remember tbh! Think different airlines have their own regulations Some kind man actually helped us carry my son in his pram down the stairs to the plane 😂 then we had to collapse it on the tarmac at the flight stairs. We took our big car seat with us but we hired a car so no transfers.
If I was you I’d get a taxi and take ur own seats?

I think it really depends on the country rules etc. We went to Greece last year and the hire car and coach provided baby seats (admittedly they weren’t as good as we have at home and they were ff but we only had short drives/transfers).

If you’re worried then it’s probably worth checking with the hotel you book and asking them to organise transfers and that you’ll pay extra for them to provide baby seats if necessary.

Hahaha I know, I feel like it’ll be more stress than it’s worth but I haven’t had a hot holiday since 2017 so I feel like by next year I’ll definitely deserve it! I keep seeing all my friends on holiday and it’s making me sad and feel like I can’t do anything anymore so I’m determined to try it (might be a one time thing lol). Ok the pram sounds fine, will have to ponder on the car seats!

Yeah will definitely pick somewhere with a relatively short transfer! B how did you find the flight to Greece?

Ummm going out was hard because it was middle of the day, he didn’t want to sleep and had just learnt to crawl, it was a small EasyJet plane so we couldn’t really stand anywhere and rock him to sleep without getting in the way 🤣 in a weird way I think long haul might sometimes be easier!

Coming back was so much better as it was a night flight so he fell asleep in the baby carrier at the airport and managed to stay asleep the whole flight! He was then very angry when we transferred him into the car to go home though so swings and roundabouts haha. Definitely worth it for a holiday and the memories all together though!

One tip I swear by is paying more for decent accommodation, preferably with multiple bedrooms and a nice big balcony so that you can relax in the evenings without disturbing them once they’re asleep and actually feel like you’re on holiday! We’ve been stuck in a small hotel room in the dark at 7pm before and learnt the hard way. 🤣 In one place in Greece we had a hot tub on our balcony and it was the best money we’ve ever spent! Going out of season makes it cheaper as well and not as hot in the day for the babies!

Most airlines I’ve flown with since having my daughter have allowed 2 special pieces of “baby luggage” so I’d assume you’d get one for each child. You can take the buggy up to the plane but as others have said you may not get it back until you’re at baggage collection. If you’re going to take car seats (which I would recommend tbh if you’re able rather than borrow because they typically don’t look after them in car hire companies, have seen them being properly chucked around) put them in a box or big bag and pad them out with loads of nappies/clothes for baby as there’s no size limit on these baby items so it’ll save you space in your luggage.

Some general tips for travelling with little ones:
- if you have a baby carrier, wear it on the plane (even if baby isn’t in it at the time) so you can be hands free with your 6mo. Useful for the flight but also on the other side if you’ve got a bit of a wait going through passport control
- again for your 6mo, consider asking if it’s possible to get an in flight bassinet. Not all airlines do it, and it’s usually first come first served, but if you get it it means you’re on the front row of the flight and it’s basically a little cot that attaches to the wall in front of your seat. It’s brilliant as a place for baby to sleep, plus it means as a family you get a bit more space. We were able to get it when my daughter was much younger on a longer flight
- for most airlines each child is allowed their own piece of hand luggage along with their checked in items so we tried to box a bit clever with all our hand luggage, eg in husbands was all techs stuff for us all, in mine was snacks/little toys/colouring etc, in daughters was spare clothes/nappies/calpol etc so we knew where each thing would be
- take an iPad, with a power bank/charging ability, and download films/tv shows to it in advance. We also got my daughter some headphones so she could watch whatever without it being too loud for us
- when going through passport control, make it known you have kids. Not all countries are the same but most we’ve visited have let us go through priority
- when actually considering accommodation etc, whilst yours are so young I’d definitely consider all inclusive. It’s more expensive of course but by the time you’ve factored in supermarket shopping and meals out, it will end up being cheaper and it means you’ll have lots of variety of food for the kids and drinks/ice creams available through most of the day

I’m sure I’ll think of more but that’s all I can remember right now!

Thank you, that’s really helpful!!

Definitely all inclusive, I need a break from cooking and my toddler would definitely enjoy unlimited snacks and ice cream 🤣

I second the priority boarding. They don’t always tell you but when we checked in the guy pointed us to the disabled lane cos we had the pram 😊

Everyone heed this advice. We only ever travel with a sling, never a buggy, and it’s amazingly simple in the airports. Last week a poor woman on her own with a 2yo and an approx 11/12mo had them both screaming and crying. I offered her help off the plane but she said she would be fine. She didn’t get her buggy back so had to manage her two little ones and their stuff through passport control.I said to my husband afterwards if she had had a sling her life would have been 100x easier.

And for toddler headphones I recommend the ones which are like a big headband as they are much comfier for them than big headphones.

Rant alert why are kids such entitled A holes sometimes. Busy day with swimming, clubs etc etc. at 4 o clock I said I just want a quiet half hour to have a snooze, so go up to the bed. Eldest comes with me to put YouTube on, crack on I say but be quiet. I doze off and she wakes me up for snoring. FFS try again, she wakes me again. I reiterate that I’m not cooking dinner til I’ve had my half hour and the more she keeps waking me the longer it’ll be.

safe to say I didn’t get a kip and it’s now 5:30.I can’t bring myself to cook as I’m too bloody knackered so it’s toast and yoghurt all round then bath and in bed for all of us by half six 😂 just why can’t they grasp the simplest of instructions. An uninterrupted nap and I’d have been a different person

Yeah, I wouldn't expect a toddler or anyone under 6 for that matter to understand that they needed to wait until I'd slept so they could have their tea.

Day 7 of potty training and it's going ok? Only one or two big wee accidents since Tuesday (day 2) although a few times her knickers have been damp because she's not quite managed to hold it in until she gets to the potty properly. Couple of really good poos on the potty (and a couple in her knickers haha), although no poo today which is a concern as she's got a history of constipation and I'm hoping that's not rearing it's weird head again!
She's nearly 3 and a half, so I feel that we have to just keep going and hope the accidents get less over time. I don't think we can go back now :ROFLMAO:

Prob wrong thread to post tbh as it wasn’t my toddler disturbing me it was my 6 yo who really does know better. Oh well, home straight and we can have an early night. Could sleep standing up right now lol

Yeah I still wouldn't expect any child to know better. If they're hungry they're hungry. Especially after swimming it uses an awful lot of energy. I'd just crack on & get everyone an early night and a filling tea. 👍🏻

How old are your kids 🙃. I’m sorry but as a parent your needs come last and you can’t just expect them to do as they are told so you can have a nap. Considering this is a toddler thread they can’t be that old
Do you have a partner.
Not sure calling them entitled arseholes is a nice thing to do in this occasion 🫠🫠 maybe don’t do as much during the day so you don’t need a nap

Not sure wanting food makes someone (who has no way to access food themselves) entitled or an hole tbh. Obviously we all do things differently but I cannot imagine Ever telling my kids to shush and go hungry because I want a nap. To me, that would make ME the entitled hole.
