I just want to rant about how shoddy the 30 hours free funding is. I’ve filled out the forms and it’s for 7:30am to 5:45pm which is classed as 2 full days it knocks off a total of £35 off our nursery fee a month.

My hours and nature of my job mean I need her to be in nursery for the whole day as I’m only part time anyway, but how does it help working parents at all. It’s just daft when she goes to pre school and she goes 3 days a week instead of 2 it’ll cost £340! Wtf urgh…..!!!!!

I'm not sure I understand.
If she's only doing the 2 days for 10 hours, the 30 hours free should cover it?
I don't understand how you only save £35 a month?

I don’t understand it at all and it’s completely baffling me.. she’s only eligible for 13.7 hours a week but you can only use a maximum of 10 of the hours a day

She’s going two full days all year round x

Oh, so you're only getting 20 hours then?
30 hours is term time, so it'd be 24 hours.
But it looks like you're only getting 20 hours, not 30

Even if it was 13 hours a week free, should still be more than £35 a month

Could it be they have already hit their limit of funded places?
They run at a loss with funded hours so are allocating her some but not all?

Ah, this’ll be why then if she has to do 3 days. The 30 hours a week equate to term Time only (39 weeks) If you need it all year round, it gets divided into 52 weeks. Hope this makes sense?

We were going to send my daughter and she was going to be using her 30 hours over 2 days and the only thing we were going to have to pay for was lunch.

Yeah I work 22.5 but my dad has her on a Friday, from September she will go nursery on a Friday.

I’m confused with it all. I don’t get it and it baffles me, I understand the “minimum” I guess but even so, i get 11 hours free now with the 15 hours but even that’s 11 hours. Makes no sense sorry I’m moaning I know we are lucky to even get any free hours but I was looking forward to not having to pay out for nursery much from April and it’s a grand saving of £35

It sounds confusing.
I'm still confused how even getting 10 hours a week free means you're only saving £35 a month? £35 a week sounds more likely?

I pay £266 now and my bill for April is £230.

My invoice atm says 11 hours free (that’s the 15 hours free government funded for 2-3 year olds) then cos she goes from 7:30am and stays till
5:30pm that’s at an added cost. It’s madness how much they charge.

For instance if she went term time and I wanted to pay from 7:30am to 9am it’s £12.50! Wow i just feel like it makes

I don't know if you do but universal credit can cover up to 85% of the costs

Yeah I think it’s the added extras that bump it up but they just don’t disclose that from what I gather the free hours are only 9-3 anyway. Roll on school next year!

No, the free hours aren’t 9-3, you can sept them over the year however you want, but I think it’s easier to say 9-3 term time. If this makes sense??

My daughter goes 3 days per week and our bill with the 30 free hours is now £319 per month. Previously, without the free hours it was £636 so it’s a big difference but she didn’t get any free hours at 2.

Yeah, mine is similar to yours (although 3 days a week previously cost £800). Still expensive but a significant improvement!

I’m in the south and my daughter is going to a private nursery and even with the funding we’ll still be paying around £500 a month for 3 days a week so count yourselves lucky

Have you tried those backpacks with the reigns in?

They would be able to take that off. We have a wrist strap and I've told them we are going to use that if they can't walk next to me nicely.
