That, in Poker, drawing to four to an inside straight has half the probability of success as drawing to a Bobtail (four to a straight open at both ends) - but that drawing to four to a flush is more advisable than either.

I did not know until yesterday that the holes at the end of saucepan handles can be used to hold a cooking spoon that you use in the pan when it is cooking on the hob

There aren’t an infinite mixture of gene types, so there’s at least seven people around the world who look just like you.

The letter "E" is the most used letter in the English language according to my tutor. And I checked on Google and it appears true.

Bone marrow or stem cell transplants (treatments for cancers like lymphoma or leukaemia) can turn humans into chimeras - meaning they 2 sets of DNA. If you tested the recipients blood, it would have the DNA of their donor, whereas something like a cheek swab would have the persons own original DNA. It can also change a persons blood type to a different one than they had previously.

That's there no reason for the alphabet to be in the order it's in but we just go with it

That the lyrics are “dog days are over” on that Florence + the machine song, not “dark days are over” 🤪

i didn’t learn it today but the “&” sign used to be the 27th letter of the alphabet. It represents the word “and” and the alphabet in the early 1800’s used to be recited: “X, Y, Z, and, per se, and.” It would have been confusing to say “X, Y, Z, and.” So, the students said, “and per se and,” per se means “by itself,” so the students were essentially saying, “X, Y, Z, and by itself and.” Fast forward many years later and the former 27th letter of the alphabet & (and, per se, and) formed in language to the word “ampersand” - which is what we call the “&” symbol today.

I learned the other day that “arctic” is derived from “arktos” meaning “bear”. So Antarctic means no bears, and guess what? polar bears don’t live there.

Johnny Cash's real birth name was J R Cash. His parents got into an argument about whether he should be called John or Ray, so they just gave him initials instead of full names.

Also, even though he spent the night in jail seven times, he never actually served a prison sentence for anything!

If you suffer with hormonal acne and drink skimmed milk, you aren’t doing yourself any favours! Skimmed milk is packed full of hormones compared to semi skimmed and whole...

TIL that the woman who does the music for the show Loki on Disney+ is Natalie Holt - and she’s the one who pushed her way to the front of the stage during someone else’s performance and started throwing eggs at Simon Cowell on the Britains Got Talent final!

Saudi Arabia import camels and sand from Australia. Australia has the largest population of wild camels in the world and their quality of sand is more fine.
