You can earn a surprising amount and still get tax credits. Is her husband self employed or an employee. If you keep you income low you can work the system. But yes, just back from skiing and wittering about tax credits. Something seriously wrong with the system...
Yes, it's easy enough when in her position to 'pay' yourself a very low income (see also The Frugality). It's all just so shady. Makes me so cross. Plus she expects us to feel sorry for her having to pay the tax man back money that never actually belonged to her!

That's why she's daft posting about anything financial online, if she's made herself a limited company, her accounts will be filed with Companies House for all to see if they wanted to. Be very easy to do some digging. Whatever, multiple skiing trips and claiming tax credits does not quite add up.

They are already filed up to March 18. They don't show much profit to be fair. But her online persona is still completely incompatible with the accounts and being eligible for tax credits. Maybe mummy and daddy paid for the Mauritius holiday? Who knows? If you are earning 16 grand a year and living in London then having multiple holidays wouldn't be my main priority, but maybe that's where I am going wrong. Not sure that post was a great idea in terms of follower engagement, other than there is a probably a fair few people pausing on that post and mouthing "What. The. duck" to themselves.

It’s not child benefit. You have to file that yourself, then the bill comes just before Christmas and has to be paid before the end of January (I know that from personal experience).
And if it’s child tax credits, they must have a very creative accountant. The threshold for that has been lowered year upon year. A friend has 3 kids and an income of around £30,000 and doesn’t get anything.

Yes she will be keeping her income below a certain level to keep this. Child beefit stops above £50k so I assume she gets that too. It all adds to the smoke and mirrors nature of it all.

CT really is thick as mince. I hope that the tax man does some serious investigating around her. She said that they paid for Mauritius themselves and it wasn’t a gift - holidaying over Christmas & NEw Years is extortionate and that would have cost £10k minimum. Also the latest ski trip wasn’t declared as a gift/ad so presumably they paid for that too? She must be raking it in and I honestly do not see the appeal. She literally just seems like a grumpy, nagging always pissed off slob, hardly “aspirational”. And what’s with all the gurning

She doesn’t say that the Surfers against sewage sweat shirt is a gift so if she paid for it it’s £70?? 70 quid sweater and getting tax credits?? Why is she airing this she really is a total idiot.

Do you think accountants of bloggers are being given receipts for all the gifts though? They probably work with what they are given. Cash payment in this industry seems not to be the norm.

Don’t tax credits letter come addressed to both claimants? Maybe she’s been claiming as a single parent.

Well maybe she’s made a shitload more profit since the March 18 accounts to give her the benefit of the doubt. In which case, why the surprise that you have to pay back your tax credits though o_O

I just saw CT's stories explaining the tax credit thing. Makes her sound evener dodgier to be honest. Bet she wishes she'd never shared the letter. But how do you decide what to share and what not to share when your whole family's life is an advert for something?

Serious damage limitation going on there 😂 LOL at the excuses being rolled out. If she’s self employed and does self assessment and files company accounts, how can she have not known or noticed? 🙄

What does she say? That she didn’t notice that she was actually quite well off? Surely she may have had an inkling when she went through passport control? 🤡

It’s complete bull. So they relied on the money at one point, then when they started earning over the threshold they just ‘forgot’ about it? Pull the other one, love 🙄

That is absolute balls!! Every year they send you a form to fill out to update them of your earnings! There's just no way she 'didn't realise'.

Goodness such Clemmie entitlement! One of them bravely loan parenting, try that when you work full time love, and one of them caught on the hop by the bad, bad tax man. They really have no idea, do they? And, given the nit saga sweeping Insta, they all think we are stupid!

It could be child benefit she’s talking about and not tax credits, you don’t reapply for that each year but it should be declared on your tax return and paid back if you’re over the threshold.

Methinks she protest too much! What a wally she caused this storm for herself if there was ever a lesson not to over share with 90 thousand people you don’t know.
