Yep it’s horrible because I used to have such thick hair aswell before I was diagnosed and started taking Levothyroxine. If anyone has any recommendations for how to stop the thinning or any advice to get back some thickness.. I’d really appreciate it!
I'm exactly the same! It's awful :( Noticing it more on my fringe area, especially when I have it up in a bun.

It's scary really as I keep worrying I'll end up bald!

Hi! I contacted my midwife today and she's referring me to the area midwife that specialises in endocrinology issues and she's contacting the specialist to get me seen sooner 😊
Hope they get you checked over! I found out I had an underactive thyroid when I was pregnant. I don't have any symptoms from it so god knows how long I've had it for. But they gave me a packet of levothyroxine then I never heard anything about it again. Then at a blood test after my son was born, my TSH level was 25 😬😅 it's back to normal now but it was quite a shock to know it was that high!

Has anyone had radioactive iodine treatment? I’ve been hyper on & off for about 4 years , on & off carbimazole. I’d got it reduced to taking 5mg every other day & was hoping to be discharged at next appointment with endocrinology. In November I started feeling rough & thought I was peri menopausal but had a blood test last Monday & have been told to increase the carbimazole to 20mg a day & start propranolol too- and think about either RAI or surgery. I’ve always said I’d just carry on with the medication before but enoughs enough I’m having a permanent treatment this time.

possible thyroid issues also sorry to bring up a dead-ish thread

I probably will go to the doctors for this and it maybe TMI but has any one experienced waking up during the night, having a really hot flush, really sweaty, stomach pain, feels like you need a wee but can't go (I pass normal and regular any other time!) sometimes feeling a bit sick.

it has happened a few times before but maybe once in a blue moon but this is the first time where it's happened literally a week after.

I am on levothyroxine tablets 75g and have been working well doctors are always happy when I go for my check ups. I am also in the UK. I did do a Google (I know 😅) does say might be a thryoid/table issue. but just want others experience/opinions but will probably make that appointment this week/end.

I have a blood test today for my thyroid. I went to see my GP (have since switched practices) a few years ago and was practically shooed out of the door for suggesting I thought I had a thyroid issue.

I have recently had chilblains which lasted for around 4 weeks in my toes. I get them in my fingers occasionally too. I am ALWAYS cold.
I’m a size 10 but eat the absolute bare minimum to stay this weight (we are talking a stupid diet of less than 800 calories a day) and if I eat any more then I will gain weight).
I have recently lost all interest in things I love to do and low mood and tiredness. This could be covid related though and a sign of the times 🤷🏻‍♀️
My periods have become really heavy.

I do kind of hope it comes back that my levels are off and I need medication, just so I know I can feel better one day.

There's no harm getting it checked ,especially if it runs in the family it can take a few tests to pick up btw ,don't let things fester if you're worried always get yourself checked that's what doctors are there for x
i phoned 111 and they’ve passed me to the out of hours GP so hopefully they can shed some light.

Having a hemithyroidectomy on the 7th April and I’ve never been had an operation/been to hospital as an inpatient before 🥺 can anyone advise on what I should take? im thinking it might be good getting some button up pyjamas/shirts but I don’t want to waste money if that’s unecessary, but I’m worried it’ll hurt to lift tops over my head. Anything else I should think about taking?
I’ve had this done. It was 8 years ago so I can’t remember what I wore sorry, but I wasn’t in too much pain and I was out the next day and only took paracetamol while in the hospital. I remember I only ate a soft foods for a few days afterwards though as I was worried swallowing would hurt! I had my staples removed after two days and I would say after they were out, I was fine. I went back to work two weeks later too

I have hypothyroidism and I have to stick to 1500 cals a day and walk about 40km a week, if I don’t, the weight piles on. I also have no sex drive and am constantly tired. I’m 30 and obviously on the medication for life now. I know there’s worse things in the world but quite frankly it’s a bit shit isn’t it.
I’m the same as you. I was 32 and just kept thinking I had these symptoms because of a demanding job, stress, being a single parent. My mum has it too but never thought to mention it to me back then. The doctor told me it was hereditary and I’m 53 now and been on the medication all these years and will be for life. I do try and think of how many worse things people have but you’re right, it is a bit shit and has impacted on all the things you mention too.

Guys, my thyroid levels returned to normal (seemingly it fluctuates, as its the second time of a thyroiditis). Now weeks later, my hair is falling out again 😭

My b12 & iron were improving too. But now i think its all dipped again. Even down to me paranoid that the influx of grey hairs is cos of b12. Ffs. 😭

I can't answer because going by my last annual bloods I am under medicated, but hope you feel better soon. It may just need a while for the new dose to 'settle' but guess it depends on why your dose was lowered.
Also I struggle with all the symptoms in winter, I guess the thyroid has to work extra hard to get the body warm etc.

Thank you so much, that’s really helpful. I’ve felt dreadful tbh for months now and the fatigue is debilitating. I’ll speak to my GP after the next tests and be more ‘assertive’ 😊
Yes it’s awful x definitely push them you don’t need to be feeling so rough when there’s treatments available.

Sounds familiar I have Hashimotos too and still have a lot of symptoms but when brain fog/ forgetfulness began to again affect my job I couldn't ignore it. I am only on 75mg now and the GP that did listen and diagnose has retired so I feel like you,we are just left to get on. So sorry you are not being properly medicated.

I’d contact your GP and enquire .I don’t think it would make much difference tbh but saying you’ve just had surgery it may affect the healing slightly x
Thanks, I think I’ll ring the specialist nurse tomorrow just to make her aware

I hope you get the answer you’re looking for!
it’s such a worrying time.
what Sort of symptoms do you have?
Weight gain despite diet and lots of exercise and activity - this is the annoying thing, trying to lose and I am gaining, my doctor immediately was like "Let's check your thyroid."
Cold extremities
Fatigue, I have insomnia, but I will go weeks with having good sleep and I am still SO TIRED ALL THE TIME
Joint pain, knees, elbows
Brittle nails, dry flaky skin

anyone else get painful blocked tear ducts after thyroidectomy? it’s now happened twice, I had an eye test in September just before my thyroidectomy, and no concerns then, but should I go back now I’m on levo? It’s only one eye
Have never had this personally but I know that thyroid related conditions can have an effect on eyes so might be good to book a test.

That doesn't sound promising for you receiving proper treatment. Did they mean not really a thing or not really a particular problem in Hashimoto's? If you're having issues with the nodules I'd definitely push for a second opinion (if you haven't already).
they just said regular ultrasounds aren't something they usually offer without physical symptoms (swelling etc) which seems odd as my bloods and general wellbeing are indicating that there's an issue! with it being autoimmune i just wanna know if my immune system attacking the gland is having an impact on the nodules they were able to see at the initial scan

I tested positive for antibodies before I started on Levothyroxine and as far as I am aware, in the UK, it doesn't make a difference as your correct it is just thyroxine as treatment.
