Hi, I bought this on disc (full price, when it came out!) and played it for a while but I just found it so basic and babyish compared to The Sims 2 which was my favourite game. But just saw the news about the free to play update and those that paid for the game can get a free expansion pack. I'm not planning on buying any more expansion packs unless the gameplay has improved a lot, so my question is: has it?(Keeping in mind base game and this free expansion pack only)

Base game only is still pretty empty, gameplay wise, though if you've not played since 2014 there have been updates, such as toddlers being added, wants and fears, lot traits, things like that, which help a little. It is still very bland though.

Though I will say, the capabilities of house building in the base game has improved immensely since 2014, there's been a whole load of improvements and additions like basements, platforms, ponds, etc. It is a very nicely intuitive and easy to use building system, if that's your jam. Otherwise...maybe not.

I had to remake them all. My Sims 4 save file is basically transported into the 00’s.

Can’t you make pets immortal with one of the treats? I know you can age them down with a treat. I hate when pets die in the sims. I’m never normally bothered when my sims die but their pets is a different story. My sims horse died in 3 and the death animation was so sad!

I’ve not got the new pack, There are some aspects I like but it looks like a lot of recycled stuff is in there too (streaming and making outfits at thrifty is in game already just under a different name) and with all the bugs It’s not making me want to get it. Gone are the days when I would pre order every pack regardless because it was The Sims!

I think you can yeah but I think it’s too late once they’re dead? I’ve had my sim offer sugar skulls, I’m really hoping they at least come back as ghosts but that will probably make me upset too lol

Has anyone tried to get back into the sims 2 after years of playing the sims 3? I never had 4 but I recently had the urge to try sims 2 again but worried the lack of open world/customisation is a pain

I stopped playing not long after I got it as I was scared it would break my family. I’ve not even checked if the bugs are fixed yet as I’ve not had time to play anyway.

See I could never finish the original Theme Hospital even playing it as an adult. But I did eventually manage to finish 2 point with all my hospitals at 3 stars! Took a while but I did it

The trick is to get your staff as highly trained in their fields as you can so they can sort patients out quicker and reduce deaths. I usually end up with about 4 gp surgeries and sometimes multiple treatment rooms too to keep up with demand. Also don’t grow your hospital too fast otherwise you’ll run out of cash!

Another vote for seasons. What type of gameplay do you like? If you enjoyed Generations than there‘s the parenthood gamepack that‘s a must.

Is seasons sims 3 or 4? I think that’s where I’m getting most confused, if I should get 3 or 4

I have acquired cottage living and tbf it is good. One of the better packs I think. I’m enjoying the chickens even if they are a bit of a handful when you have more than about 4 of them. The animals can be a tad glitchy at times so keep an eye on them, my cow sometimes decides not to automatically come out of her shed and then complains that she’s not being looked after and sometimes my chickens just won’t let me interact with them so my sim stands for ages waiting until I cancel the interaction. I wouldn’t say the gameplay is especially deep but nothing in the Sims 4 is imo. Its kept me hooked for a week or so at least. But I’m a bit bored of it now.

Ive been reading about the new industrial loft kit and it looks really poor.

Our laptop is probably about 8 years old now and it still runs the Sims fine with the majority of the packs installed. It does lag a bit at times and the graphics settings aren’t very high, but it runs and it’s playable. It’s good that you don’t need the latest laptop to play even with all the packs you can get. Just a shame the sims can’t keep me hooked for longer than a week before I get bored with it.

If I haven't played Sims since the PS2 about 20 years or more ago, what one would you suggest downloading to get back into it?

PC! Definitely, I find the PS4 versions very lack lustre, and not easy to use (might just be because I’m used to pc ) You can also find the pc version of sims for free on some sites

I probably won‘t buy it unless seeing gameplay/items that really wow me, then maybe in a sale
