We knew it was coming at some point, but considering her mother made it to 101 and Prince Philip made it to 99, I assumed she had a couple of years more.

It's quite a shock to think she's no longer here and that Charles is King.

RIP Queen Elizabeth 2
Born into something that she never chose but carried out her role for an incredible length of time so well.

She's done very well to get to her age, I hope she's comfortable but I'm not sure a recovery is a feasible expectation, she's clearly on the decline and has outlived so many people. I wish her comfort and love in her last moments and will be sad to see the end of an era. I think they are telling us now so it's not a surprise.

I think she probably passed away this morning or around lunchtime. The speculation from the media about what happens next wouldn’t be permitted to this extent if she was still alive, it would be seen as very crass, especially from the BBC.

I’m not a monarchist, but I have the most profound respect for her. She was only two days ago working and meeting up with the new Prime minister. I greatly respect a woman who did not choose her role but was dedicated entirely to it. You can dislike the institution and still like the person. I always got the impression she wanted simple things, riding a horse, walking in wellies with damp dogs - the travesty of the institution is it took her away from a life she may have preferred.
Death is always sad. Mortality is always an unhappy state to dwell on, and even the death of someone you bitterly oppose can only make you contemplate it.

Lol at the Sky News presenter saying its important not to speculate and overreact, when they've been hosting constant rolling news and sharing tittle tattle for the past 4 hours. 😂

BBC have just broadcast an interview with a member of the public who said she will never see another Queen in her lifetime. That's a weird fact to think. Even if Charles doesn't have a long reign, it's William and then George. It will probably even be our children's children if not their children the next time there is a Queen.

I don't really know why I'm so upset. I think it's just the uncertainty and change. I really did have soft spot for the Queen 🤍 I know she was old, but it still seems such a shock.

I don't want to be negative on this thread but I just feel like it's been one thing after another since 2016.

I honestly don’t know who is more cringe, the hardcore meghan haters or the people in tears acting like it’s a member of their own family who is about to kick the bucket.
Fair enough it’s a culturally significant moment but jfc some of the comments I have seen are shocking lmao
I must be cringe then because I know I'll shed a tear when she goes 🤷‍♀️

I know she’s old and she’s had a good life but I still can’t help but feel sad about it, I adored the queen.

I’ve blocked 2 people on my Facebook already for posting very rude and crass things about her

The rainbow over Buckingham palace is something else. Choked me up.
I like to think it’s was her way of letting everyone know she was happy to be back with her Philip. It’s been an incredibly sad day today. I will take my girls to lay flowers tomorrow at Buckingham Palace 💔

It’s weird thinking we’ll never see her on the balcony again, we won’t get asked if we’re “having tea with The Queen” when you go to London 😔

I don’t usually post on here, more of a lurker but I’ve found today incredibly hard. I’m not a royalist in the slightest, but my special nan was, who I lost last year. She absolutely loved the queen ❤ I’ve been engrossed by it the entire afternoon and even bought a tear to my eye.

I don’t really have anything else to say really, I just feel for the family and their grief.

you know what's a strange thought... if she has died, there will be babies born from now on who will not have the queen as a monarch... that hasn't happened in 70 years!
