I was listening to a lawyer on YouTube last night break this down and it was really interesting. Josh is in huge trouble and there's almost no way of getting out of it, thank goodness. If anyone's interested:
It was late when I listened but from what I remember she said that he was likely caught by his IP address (this lie that influencers spread explained here) , and although everyone thought that when his car lot was raided in 2019 it was because of tax fraud, it wasn't - it was because they traced his computer to the images through a larger investigation involving images of children. I guess that means that he would have known all this time that this was what he was under investigation for this and not tax fraud. Said this likely involves a lot of images, it's not like he's being prosecuted for one image
She said his children will definitely be interviewed by CPS and there is a good chance that he will only be able to see them under supervised visits until they are 18 if he is out before then. Also said that 5 years in jail is the absolute minimum term for him, it's not like he can plea it down to 18 months, he might be able to plea it down from 10 years to 5 years, but Josh is going down for a long time. Said he probably won't be given 20 years as this is his first recorded crime.
She said that there's almost no chance of him getting away with this. Almost all federal cases end up with a plea deal, something like 2% go to trial and then only 0.4% are found not guilty. A small percentage do end up being thrown out on a technicality but unlikely with Josh as it's a pretty difficult issue to get around once it's been confirmed he downloaded the images.

Anyone else think it’s disgusting how they bring up the fact they’re against any form of pornography. What Josh had was not porn, it was abuse. Abuse against minors who have had their whole lives ruined by men like him.

All the statements are likely being written by the PR department, not the Duggars themselves. I'm not sure how seriously to take them.

I have nothing but complete sympathy for the Duggar girls, even more after reading what he has said. They get a pass from me on their statements about this, it's tragic. Jim Bob sounds pure evil, Michelle had a chance to stop it for the sake of her girls.

Totally agree regarding the sisters' statements. It's not their job to say the right thing. This man abused them too.

Can someone remind me of what Jill did to piss off her dad?
I’m really wondering behind closed doors how the sisters are managing to process all of this. Are they allowed to talk about it all with their husbands, or are Ben/Jeremy etc brushing this under the carpet as JB and Michelle have done? Can they share their true feelings honestly? We know Derrick is supportive of Jill, but I really wonder whether Jessa and Jinger have support at home. I hope so, they’ve had to carry this burden for far too long.
As far as I know, she took him to court to get a share of the money from all the TV series (he had always pocketed the lot, none of the kids got any).
Jessa and Ben will always side with JB because he gives them money. So whatever Jessa might really think of the situation will never come out because they're trapped. Why would anyone "pray for Josh" rather than the children in the abuse photos in this circumstance otherwise? Jeremy and Jinger only care about their image and their book sales, so their statement was damage control.
It will be interesting to see who speaks out during/after the trial (if there is one and he doesn't go for a plea deal). I remember John David being very vocal about his lack of respect for Josh after the first lot of allegations came out. I think he, out of all the siblings (other than Jill), would be the one to really speak out in disgust. I hope so anyway.
