In fact it took, a flight to the UK, three visits to specialists and a round if tests, another flight to South Africa, then another round of tests before Percy was admitted to hospital to begin his treatment. If that's "rushing" then I'd hate to see how they handle a true emergency.
I feel for the old guy, but stoicism in the face of serious illness is bullshit. What's needed is the patient to fight, what's needed are demands, what's needed are second and third opinions, not acceptance and resignation. To me that's just fatalism. Happily TB of the throat is treatable. According to the NHS, it takes several weeks to 6 months before the person begins to feel better. Fanny says treatment takes "6 to 9 months" but she may of course be using different medical information that the NHS, the American Medical Association and the French Acaémie Nationale de Chirurgie may not be privy to.
Get well soon Percy, and don't allow Fanny and her silliness to aggravate your recovery.

To be fair, according to Fanny, he had been diagnosed with cancer and would have been unaware that he was the carrier of something infectious. It is the specialist in the UK I am astounded about. Surely some infection would have shown up in blood tests or taking samples of sputum or cells from the cheek? How do you diagnose cancer without doing a blood check? Percy had been to Egypt and South Africa. Was he not vaccinated? It all seems very odd that he left the UK with the recommendation he seek radiotherapy in South Africa with a serious infection and a cancer diagnosis.Flying from SA to the UK to France to the UK.... The doc was most likely simply adding Percy to the waiting list in the event of anything serious. I was just reading about how high the incidence of TB is in South Africa. Again just asking a few questions about travel in the last year could have given the UK docs a clue. If they could have taken Percy in for radio therapy immediately he would have started that treatment. This is such a lesson to get second opinions on everything.

how old is Percy? At times seeing him doing some of the work around there I really questioned what was going on as he appeared more and more frail. Living in that damp place with all those stairs....agree stay in SA and if Isabelle wants to be with him it is there. Also I was shocked to see him flying off to SA on his own for some "business" and I said to myself...is this guy not retired?Whether Percy's illness is a sham or not, at his age and condition, Percy shouldn't be working and traveling too much anymore. It would be best for him to stay in SA close to his family, instead of Lalande where he essentially functions as SJ and Isabelle's unpaid errand boy. Make the paid errand gay work for his money.

Working at a large medical center until the late 90s (non-medical field) we were tested yearly. I think they still do.Like me, you will remember the Heaf tests at school. We used to call it a Daisy test or Six needles! They would come back and read the test a day or two later to see if you had a positive reaction.
