Not really no, most gardens that everyone has is really small an I know their roots get incredibly long so it's too much a risk with the houses an I wouldn't like to put that on anyone with the house foundations

Tbh I really didnt think I was going manage to grow them, I had tried a few times years earlier for a while an they just never took off so for bored with planting, but these 3 are growing strong, all from what I found laying in a park an just decided one day to try it lol, it's maybe still a while before pots will no longer do but I feel they are ready for permanent homes at this stage as well

It's made me realise I kindi love to plant things an watch then grow now so really it's more my personal feelings that sorta pushing me to find a home for them lol, it would be nice to see them fully grown before I go if I could as well

Wow, that's amazing growing them from so small, you must have a lot of patience, you've put your time, effort, faith in them. That's a good point you bring up about their roots too as sometimes it's difficult to imagine how big they will actually grow.

Thanks, was really surprised when I first seen the little saplings appear an it's been quite fun seeing them have to be replanted into bigger pots, like a growth stage I can look back on, the house I grew up in had two apple trees both matured, it was a long garden an they were right at the bottom an I'll always remember my dad telling me it was because they needed to be away from the house so I've always remembered that I can't plant anything big too close, sadly houses just don't come with big gardens anymore, seems more an more areas would rather cram as many houses in as they can an leave you with a postage stamp gardens

Did you know what kind of trees they were before planting? Just curious to know what to look out for, did you notice them straight away before you took them home?

Oohh no, I hope it doesn't damage the roots, what tree is it? Maybe it won't have strong roots on it like the bigger trees, some you can get away with being close, some of my neighbours have the little trees planted in their gardens which wouldn't harm the house

Yeah I knew what they were, I found the chestnuts from a young tree in one park an found acorns from another park, took them all home an got 3 out the whole bunch to grow, they weren't saplings, I guess that's how am trying find homes for them, it was the fact I grew them from the acorn an chestnut themselves rather than get them as saplings that had already started

What would you all do in my situation? So my neighbours garden is an absolute tit hole, but that's not encroaching on my boundary so none of my business other than it being a complete eyesore when I look out my window. But the last couple of weeks they've started creating a massive pile of rubbish outside their back gate, it's a combination of black bags they couldn't fit in their bin and garden stuff they're getting rid of (kids toys etc). I've watched them just go to their back gate and chuck it out there. The problem is our back gardens back onto an alley way (not maintained by the council, but also not owned by us as part of our deeds) which we use as we have big double gates at the back of ours to allow us to park in our garden. The pile keeps encroaching in front of my gates, numerous times I've moved it back so it's outside theirs but I'll come home every day and have to get out my car and move a load of tit which they've chucked across the alley before I am able to open my gates and park my car. This morning I went out to collect my blue bin which had been emptied to find that when I opened my gate their blue bin hadn't been emptied as it was overflowing and they've just chucked a load of their recycling on to the pile which has obviously blown all over the alley.

I keep thinking I need to knock on their door and politely ask them to tidy it up or at least stop it from blocking my gatres and then if nothing happens make a complaint to the council - but my bf says that will just cause a dispute and we don't want to have any fallings out. To be honest though, they are a nuisance all round. I've caught their kids spraying my dog with a hose through the fence, they constantly shout and scream and swear and argue with each other. I'm just concerned if anything does lead to a dispute obviously when you sell your property it's a question asked on the forms as to whether there's been any disputes so I don't want to cause any issue. I also obviously generally don't want to be disliked by my neighbours. I'm stuck on what to do. They rent their property so they won't be bothered about the dispute side of things.

as reassurance, apple trees don’t have invasive/destructive root systems so you should be fine with it being close to your house. the roots don’t grow much further than the top of the tree (compared to something like an oak).

a friend of mine recently bought a house with a lovely apple tree in the garden and that’s what the surveyor told her anyway! i think it’s still not ideal, but they won’t do anywhere near the level of potential issues that more far reaching roots will. so don’t worry

Do you know if they rent via the council or private? Maybe try to contact whoever they rent from to ask them to keep it more tidy? It’s so hard when stuff like this happens because like you say you don’t want it to become even more of an issue but I totally get how annoying it is

We had apple trees as well, but two of them, I'd maybe move it away from the window if it's right by it just incase but so long as there's some space between then it should be fine, do you know what kind of apple tree it is? I've seen a lot of people with those I think they are called crab apple trees that they have in gardens an those are generally quite small trees, ours was absolutely massive so made for great fun to climb up as kids but I don't see many people having those now, I mostly see the smaller version of apple trees now

Are they likely to kick off if you ask them nicely? Failing that report to the council if you don’t know who they rent from. I agree with picking your battles .I'd ask them to keep the access clear so you can get in and out .

You could get the landlords details from Land registry and write to them, anonymously if you wanted too.

It's about 6-7ft from window, cant remember the name, sweet variety, not crab apple

I can't read tattle on my laptop, the screen is too small the ads get in the way. On my work computer and phone its fine. Bloody annoying!
