How’d you deal with people not ever wanting to come to your house and you feel like you’re always going there?

We waited it out because I was a bit pissed off with it (we have a 9month old and 2/nearly 3 year old so it’s not the fastest or hassle free to get out of the house) but it had been over a month since we last saw my parents, who live only a 25min drive away, before they bothered to just come here and my dad was too tired to even come apparently so it was just my mum. And before that I don’t think they’d even been to visit since early September (again just my mum). Could probably count on one hand the amount of times they’ve been to our house in the last year.

Do I just need to start inviting them here more or coming up with reasons why we can’t leave the house? I’m sure they’d still suggest going there though

Maybe they are being polite and don't want to impose? Or if they're ageing, maybe they genuinely don't feel up to the journey? Invite them!

I would just say "we've been to yours a lot recently, would be nice if you visited us". If they have good reasons like suggested above then I'm sure they will tell you!

i’m the complete opposite, would much rather go to someone elses house than have people in my space i think people get offended that i don’t invite them over

I think a lot of people would see that as a positive. You can visit when it suits, leave when you like. Maybe they’re trying not to impose?

Honestly would see it as a positive if it didn’t always feel so much of a faff with the kids (needing to pack snacks, bottles, toys, changing bag.. the kitchen sink ) and harder to work around 9month olds naps sometimes, then he’ll have a danger nap in the car on the way home and be a pain to put to bed in the evening
It’ll be easier and less annoying to always be the one visiting my parents as the kids get older I suppose !

I think stylish and warm does not go well togeher. Probably the least stylish ones will keep your hands warmest ie 3M brand is really good.
However if you can afford it, then real sheepskin with wool inside

I got some gloves from Primark a few years back. Pale grey, padded and I think they were £8.
I get loads of compliments on them, and shock that they're from Primark, so I decided to buy some more the following year. Not seen them since, though.
I'm now paranoid about losing one.

This is not really a problem but I need help

I’ve been given an early Christmas present, £200 voucher for John Lewis. I don’t shop there particularly often and when I do it’s usually gifts for other people! I need inspiration on what to buy….had a tough year for lots of reasons and money has been tight so I sort of want to treat myself but don’t know to what! So my current thoughts are:

1. Splurge (on…?)
2. Use it to buy Christmas presents and keep the money I’ve saved for Christmas instead
3. Spend it in Waitrose on a fancier food shop?

I’ve just bought nice bedding from elsewhere as that would have been my first thought otherwise….

Mine and my bfs house has a large gravel driveway, we didn’t put it down, the previous owners did and they did a massive bodge, didn’t put any membrane done and it’s literally weee central! Also, the neighbourhood cats see it as one giant litter tray! Our cats don’t go there, but neighbours have seen other cats from the area and it’s getting to be a real problem! The half bury it in the gravel, you can’t see it and well, you can imagine it’s a pain and not fun having to go digging around in the stones to fish it out….the plan eventually is to pull up the stones weedkill properly, lay a membrane and put the stones back, topping them up at the same time as it needs more…..loads of people have gravel driveways, but do they all have this problem? Does anyone have a gravel driveway and have this issue or have any ideas/thoughts as to how we can stop it being used as a giant litter tray ideally we’d concrete/resin it, but we can afford that any time soon so it’s not an option sadly and we just have to work with what we’ve got and can afford! Any advice very much welcome!!!!

How about a nice beauty advent calendar and have a little treat every day?.

On a more practical note their curtains are excellent, maybe a pair to match your new bedding?.

What weed killer do you use? You need to ensure it’s the right thing for the weed you’re dealing with so may need two different types, ones that kill the roots. If you happen to know any farmers, they can get the industrial stuff.

We have large gravel/stones and don’t have a cat problem, if yours is more small shingle maybe you can top it with some larger stones when you come to do it assuming the size puts them off.

I’d splurge on a nice leather bag or perfume. If there’s a bit left do a Waitrose picky-bit shop. Imo M&S has better food, Waitrose just has weirder (posh) combinations.

My suggestion would be to set a weekend aside and lay down membrane yourselves. It’s hard work but a lot cheaper than paying someone to do it

Honestly in the past we’ve only used the stuff you get from say b & q, we have two cats and a dog and there are a lot of neighbourhood pets hence the poop issue it seems so we ve been trying to be careful however. It doesn’t work that well so we’re thinking of looking for something stronger and we will lay the membrane and gravel straight away and keep the pets in out the way, I have heard that larger stones puts them off so we will prob give this a try!!! And keep our fingers crossed! Thanks!!
