Storm Eunice and Franklin

Yes, there have been many on the thread saying how still it was where they are even though they were expecting carnage. It's been awful where I am for ages now, even before Eunice hit, trees were down here,
For me, although Eunice was louder and scarier Franklin has done the most damage but that could be before things were already damaged before it hit.
That's our experience here.
The roar of the wind Friday was really scary. I got back from walking the dog just as it was kicking off and you could hear the roar before the gust came. All you could do was stand still and hope.
Eunice caused damage with 70mph winds, but Franklin has caused more what with the ground being sodden and things being weak from Eunice, yet the wind is half the amount at about 45 mph.

I'm old enough to remember the hurricane strong winds of 1987 and watching it from my bedroom window with my Dad. That flattened the woods opposite where I live, and I'll never forget seeing lampposts blowing at 45⁰ angles.
Thank god we've not seen anything like that over the past few days!

A bleeping terrifying one! You just know Gladys is going to be a nightmare. I can already hear her tutting at the state of my silverware. I'm going to burry it.
Whenever I hear/see “Gladys” I think of this...

My mother in law has lost ALL her fence panels. They just blew into the street. She had to run out and get them and throw them into her back garden so she has no fence. She’s on the corner in a cul de sac so basically over her street can see into her back garden 😬

When did the wind start, was it last Tues? I remember gusts on Weds but I can’t remember if it was windy before then... fed up of it now. I know friends who now can’t let their dogs out the back to pee on their own because the fences are down. It will be a while before everyone can fix them too.

Fingers crossed with this extreme bad weather somehow we’ll end up with an incredible summer to compensate 😁

Still windy and pouring down in Cumbria this morning 🙄
My garden is a disgrace and then the dog makes it worse by running around barking cos she's livid at the wind 🤣

Very windy again in West Yorks, but a lot of water now going. I feel so sorry for people who still have no power, or been flooded.

A good explanation of how weather warnings work

Thank you for this @Blond3g1rl . Most of it is clear, but I don't quite understand how winds in the south and north, blowing at the same speed, would be different!

High winds in large open spaces, like the Moors, don't appear as bad as winds in built up places where damage is caused. Leeds City Centre is an example, and they built three large wind barriers to help the situation as people were being blown off their feet, and high sided vehicles didn't stand a chance.

Maybe we can all manifest a lovely big blanket of snow? 💫

🗣What do we want? 10 inches! When do we want it? Now!

Did you manage to contact your son @Cupcakemum was he ok?
Yes! He finally text saying that he had no problems getting there.
Then when he got home he said that he tried riding on the roads (even though I said to stick to the paths!) and that he was buffered about all over the place, so then he decided to do as I said and stick to the paths 🙄
He's 22, do they ever begin to listen to their Mums? 😂
