People are still without electricity in Northumberland, County Durham and parts of Scotland.

Best excuse I ever heard for being late to work this morning “there was a trampoline in the road “

It’s been getting steadily worse since last night and we had a bit of snow this morning. Sadly I heard someone died in County Antrim after a tree fell on his car. My house is very exposed and not much chance of sleep with this noise. Snuggling with the cats, the rabbits are in their beds and the alpacas are in the barn even though the daft sods love a good storm.

I pity you it's bad enough inland , my husband is out in it I can never sleep till he's home safe .I hate the wind over anything .

There are still homes without electricity in Northumberland without electricity. Not all of these are rural, some more suburban .

Some churches are open for people to drop in , and charge their electronic devices, use the microwave and hot water etc.

The Salvation Army actually apologised on Facebook that they couldn't offer overnight shelter or shower facilities in response to some comments people were making on line .

When we had the wind storms in autumn 1987, the actor who played Rene in Allo Allo ended up critically ill for a time after a tree was blown over and fell on his car.

Same, when my bedroom curtains were blowing out into my room during the night I was expecting to see her or Cathy. Not a bit of wonder people thought ghosts made the noise wooooohhhhoooo. The noise was terrifying Monga, I'll never get used to it.

I’ve got an irrational fear of the power lines coming down as I’m driving in wind. We had one come down in the field opposite last year and the massive bang it made and all the sparks was terrifying.

My dad sleeps like a log through it, there's been times I've thought the whole roof was flying off an he's slept though it, I guess being on the oil rigs does that to you

I keep wondering if its going get worse here, I hear it occasionally picking up an I think here we go then it dies down again for a while, am just glad I don't stay in one of those high rise flats, god knows what it would feel like in those, scare the crap outta you, I've heard how they can sway in winds

Hopefully it won't x I've been caught in it before my son was nearly killed when he was a baby ,so scary , there was a man killed on one of the bridges in our town the wind blew his lorry over it ,it's a dangerous thing I'm terrified of it .

The problem is that ever since Michael Fish got caught out saying there wasn't going to be a hurricane back in 1987, weather forecasters now exaggerate the potential dangers to a ridiculous degree.

The weather today in most parts of the country is not "severe", it's "seasonal". High winds and snow showers are exactly what you would expect in late November.

Do you live somewhere that has not experienced high winds in the last 24 hours. Or do you not notice changes around you?

I do agree that it is often windy in the winter , and there always seems to be a weather warning but the winds in Northumberland were extreme. Normally my weather app would say high winds are gusts of up to about 40 km . The air last night was moving constantly and speeds that are normal for gusts. The gusts were so strong and the wind seemed to be coming from all directions. The amount of destruction and damage is far from normal.

Still crazy winds here

There were wind speeds recorded in Northumberland of over 90 and 70 miles per hour. That far exceeds seasonal expectations. On the weather apps I use , the measure the wind speed in kilometres which is a smaller measure.

Seems to be getting worse. Just back on fb and people are losing all manner of stuff - sheds and trampolines the most common but the strangest one is a metal veranda. Liverpool to North Wales areas without electricity. Would not like to be in that draughty l'm a Celeb castle tonight.

Its bloody cold isnt it? My poor dog (8 month old chug) has been too scared to go outside so she's had a few accidents today which im not at all mad at her for. Poor thing gets to the garden, feels a gust of wind and bolts back in! I would have took her for a walk but its been such a cold wind today and she would have been jumping at me to pick her up and take her home.
OH has had the heating on most of the day and dogs taken herself upstairs to sleep under the blanket next to OH's feet.

Our town was supposed to switch on the Christmas Lights today and have had to cancel it because there are very few lights to turn on.

Seems to pick up an die down here, I'll see what postcode to pick my bin up will be tomorrow and if I've hit the trampoline jackpot but so far it's not been as bad the now as past storms have been

Thankyou, yes. They managed to contact them this morning and said they would get an engineer to call them, saying it was a fault in their home but no one called back. I tried that number and web chat for ages and got no where. I'm fuming that they are vulnerable and have been left like this with no end in sight. I offered to book them into a hotel but they don't like any fuss and don't want to be parted from their dog. I just don't know where to go from here. I'll phone that number again, see if any luck.

I hope you manage to get somthing sorted for them, have you a twitter? Usually company's when called out on twitter response in minutes as they hate being called out, you could put somthing up asking others for help as company so an so won't do anything, even if the company still doesn't do anything twitter has a huge audience so perhaps others know of a way to help

Someone kept posting on a local Facebook group about their leccy being out. It finally came back on yesterday. I thought they lived out in the sticks but they don't, they live quite near the train lines ( which are up and running).
It's shocking really.

Some homes in my hometown in Northumberland only got their leccy back yesterday. And there's an estate near where i live now in Co Durham who were still off when i checked last night
