Ooh look, it's autumn and it's a bit breezy. Who'd have thought it at this time of year?

Had no power here since midnight! Never heard anything like the wind last night, lots of damage locally. Trees up, fences down, even trampolines lifted out of gardens!

Well that was quite a night. It’s still blowing a gale but it’s a “mere” amber warning now, the Red has passed. It’s still too dark out to get a full extent of the damage but from early observations the small fence between us and our neighbour is just gone, and I mean completely obliterated. The ominous banging sound of plastics against concrete and brick suggests bin randomisation and probably rubbish all over the place. Will have to wait till it’s light to assess any structural damage. All first world problems I guess, but not expense you want before Christmas.

Didn’t get to sleep till after 1 am, and then flitful. I’ve got a 10 hour shift coming which I’m not looking forward to. The cat, who is usually about as friendly as a rattlesnake on a hamster farm spent all night curled up next to our feet. My youngest, who usually sleeps like a fossilised log, woke up about 1 thinking that there had been a car crash.

Sometimes you just have to stare in awe at the sheer power of planet earth. I can’t remember having ever experienced a Red Warning level storm before. In the words of Trustpilot - Not recommended.

I’m in Southport and it was awful last night! A slate fell onto my neighbours car from the roof and our wheelie bins rolled into the street my boyfriend had to go and fetch them hardly slept cos it was so bloody loud last night. Seems to have died down now, only 29mph. Was looking forward to a trip to the Aldi and the big Tesco but think I’ll leave that today

Hope you're OK Watermelon. We're on the camp site in Southport. I've never known anything like it. I felt sea sick with all the wind shoving our caravan around. Have you seen the uprooted trees by the coast . Can't even go home today as trouble on the M62 and parts blocked.

Yeah my aunts area is still without power, she's working in the local school cooking meals so people at least during the day can have some hot food an a warm place since the school is running on a back up

Well Arwen has finally got bored and moved on to annoy someone else but now we've got snow thicker than Katie Prices make-up. I see an "inside day" coming on tomorrow.

The size of the waves are the main reason why the pier was never developed as an attraction like Brighton etc.

However, there's a museum underneath the pier in the tunnel that leads to the lighthouse. The tunnel was to evacuate the keepers in storms like Arwen, and is now used to evacuate fishermen who can get trapped on the pier in bad weather as well as being a small museum.

I'm in North Wales and the wind is scary. Local fb page said street furniture all over the place, slates flying about, benches in the road and plenty of Christmas decorations in the street blown from local hotels.

Sunderland. One is a fallen tree at the fish Quay, and another of the lighthouse.

Good God! That wave looks unreal when you see it next to that lighthouse!

In the Midlands over here and the wind outside has woken me up. Definitely could have it worse but think the wind can be the scariest part sometimes. Haven’t looked outside my windows to see what’s going on and don’t think I will, if I can help it. Trying to go back to sleep but struggling.

Never heard anything like it last night, I was awake on and off and our youngest woke up in the middle of the night, ending up in with us.

Snow was welcomed by my two this morning but had melted by midday. Less wind today but bitterly cold. Very glad my eldest has had his footy cancelled tomorrow!!

That just means more cold here in the East Midlands-but the north-east may be hit by another hurricane!

It’s just a mere Yellow warning at the moment, but given the battering we took from Arwen i’m predicting more damage because a lot of stuff was structurally weakened last week.
