I've lurked Tattle for a long time and never commented before but need to comment here now! I've been a long time viewer of Steve's channel and he was one of my favourite YouTubers. I think I've watched pretty much all of his videos and really loved that he did a lot of Scottish content. I'm from here so good inspo for trips away. I also used to like how he'd do everything pretty cheaply - I know some folk weren't into that as they saw it as being tight, but again, I felt like it was good to see someone not dropping £££ on a trip, made it feel like they were doable for me as well. I also really liked when Alicija was in the vids - I felt like they used to bounce off each other nicely and it broke up some of the videos where just his solo commentary could be a bit meh.
However, I feel like there's been a shift since his Ecuador trip. The first episode when he flew business class for £1k one way I was like, okay, not his usual stuff but I'll still watch. However I thought he acted like a complete tit when he was there - walking through the neighbourhood where the locals told him not to go, it was just stupidity. And then the whole thing about his phone getting stolen just seemed so weird - it felt really fake to me. There's no way someone in his line of work doesn't back up their photos/videos. Yeah maybe the ones from his flight over etc he wouldn't have backed up yet (although surely he'd have iCloud?), but no way he hadn't done it from his previous trips.
I felt like he was trying to pull at people's heartstrings with that and losing memories with A and his dad, who he hadn't mentioned had passed away before then. And then the donations came in - I counted well over £1k being donated for a new phone, as though a) he couldn't afford to replace it and b) he wouldn't have travel insurance?! It left a bad taste in my mouth that he accepted those donations.
I don't know if anyone remembers, but on one of his videos in Norway previously he saw the Hurtigruten come into port and he spoke about how much he'd love to go on one of their cruises but could never afford it. Then he did his first QM2 cruise and a few months later the £20k QM2 cruise. The Hurtigruten cruises are dear but considering he's raking in almost £5k a month on Patreon he's hardly on the breadline. Can't believe he's now doing gifted stuff. I mean, I totally get why someone would accept a free luxury cruise but doubt I'll ever watch his channel again. I feel like his videos have been generally going downhill anyway and the Ibiza ones were absolute shite!
TL;DR - you can afford to pay for your own travel, Steve!
