I think she was doing ‘a bit’. Like when you get older and on your birthday say something like ‘can’t believe I’m 21 today 🤪’ as a joke (my mum is fond of that one). I don’t think it really scans when you’re only shaving 5-6 years off though, it’s not like early 30s is old!
Yeah that is what I think she was doing too

You’re right though. When my 50yo mum says she’s 21 it’s funny and I get it. When a 31yo says she’s 26 it’s just a bit weird.

Lots of people on Twitter suggesting she hires a private investigator and/or goes to the police after yesterday’s drama and she was replying to all of them saying she will look into it. 🙄

A private investigator because someone doesn't like her on twitter? I think she'll have to hire several!

This thread is....................... a LOT. Even by her standards.

Is she going after her actual friends/the body pos community here for not supporting her?? Because if she dared get a bad review or feedback she'd probably call 999 and say she'd been assaulted. And of course she intimates it's because she's not popular/pretty. When she's actually a really, really bad writer - 'I guess I expected a bit more support from people I knew/people within the community. It feels tit, but it is well.'

This is something she should talk to a friend about...not twitter. Yikes.

Notice how she’s locked off replies to people she follows or mentioned only too.

I didn't notice that actually. The thing is, she clearly doesn't have any friends but she definitely should be getting serious therapy. She cannot make the connection between her behaviour/life choices and why she feels so isolated and lonely and desperately needs validation. I wish I could feel sorry for her but she is a truly awful person so I really don't.

ETA - I read further down her feed and what seemed to trigger the 'woe is me' is that she wasn't included on a list of recommended books from an American website? God, she has issues for days.

My favourite review - It just felt a bit like she had been given a set word count and had fluffed up some chapters to achieve this.

a lot of the constructive (!) criticism is pretty similar too - full of shallow analysis and repetitive. Sums her up really.

Where did you find that? Every review I've seen has been overwhelmingly positive to the point it seemed very fake.

As you’ve said, a small minority of more critical views are buried among the sea of very overwhelming positive reviews on Goodreads!

From what I’ve seen, it’s a more of a beginner’s book which regurgitates existing theory in an accessible format.

I just think it’s interesting, given the indirects to a second (maybe fiction?) book.

I saw one not so positive review on Amazon and she went on there arguing with the person!!! Now deleted of course.

Why can’t she just ask her friends/community what they thought of it?
It’s a shame as it seems to be widely positively received, but that doesn’t seem to be enough for her.

I don't know how publishing normally works I guess but I'd have thought they'd be sending out review copies to these people and directly asking for feedback and quotes etc. It seems weird not to do that.

I don't really know much about Steph but followed this thread as I was vaguely aware of her and did buy her book (which I've not read yet). I'm quite surprised by her twitter, she does seem to be a very negative person.

I find the “we aren't the best at supporting those who aren't super popular/pretty, which is a shame” comment super odd.

She has over 230,000 followers and, yes she is large, but she has absolutely flawless skin and perfect teeth and she actually *is* a “pretty” woman. (She has a bleeping awful personality though, that’s where the problem is imo!)

She seems to swing between [faux?] low self-esteem and ‘I’m literally the best thing in the world’. One minute she’s quite mopey and woe-is-me and other times she’s massively big headed.

I don't know anything about publishing either but clearly something has set her off and I'm wondering if that's it? She may know who the publishing company would ask for quotes and either they didn't like the book or more likely, they don't like Stephanie.

THIS. And the swings are really extreme. I'm convinced it's a personality disorder. I've never known anyone to go from 'I am a best selling author, dazzling and effervescent' to 'I have no friends and no one will date me because I am dark skinned and plus sized' in the blink of an eye. The problem is she never seems to acknowledge that she is the problem.

She’s so emotionally manipulative!
That twitter thread was just sad fishing for compliments and I'm waiting for the 'you are so amaaaaaaaazing, the best writer ever!' comments to roll in to give her a serotonin hit.

ETA - I haven't got twitter so don't think I can see the sadfish thread but it looks like she has got only one reply??

It’s a really strange choice of words for a woman in her 30s too. Pretty and popular? That’s something a teenager would aspire to be, it suggests being left out of a clique at school or something. Weird to see those sort of things as ‘the ideal’ at her age.

Wonder if this is to tee up another book- ‘ oh I don’t know if I’m any good’ so hypes up when new one gets released

She set the replies so only people she follows could reply but she follows almost 2.5 thousand people and one(!) person replied which is... 😬😬😬
