Victoria - Let Your Head Go, and I’ll freely admit I have a soft spot for Out Of Your Mind, it’s hilarious and was such a “moment” at the time.

Geri - G.A.Y. (B-side of Mi Chico Latino)

Emma - What Took You So Long

Mel B - I Think I Want You Back

Mel C - Never Be The Same Again

You’ve reminded me of the beautiful outro from the live version, it’s so dreamy!

(Also, only just realised that Geri has no lines in this song!)

I’ve definitely heard a version with Geri getting a line. It’s Victoria’s part with the lyrics changed

I can’t decide between my favourite Mel C song, I loved when she went punk witch and chopped all her hair off on Goin Down. But then I also loved the vocals on Northern Star. Beautiful. I LOVED I Turn To You - a proper club banger. And then Never Be the Same Again was something else (RIP Lisa ❤)

If that’s really why they changed it, it would be so sweet of them!

Unrelated, but apparently the recent Victoria Netflix documentary was originally going to be about all the Spice Girls, but then Geri refused.
I wonder if that was because of her husbands scandal? Cos if anything, Victoria was always the one holding back on a Spice Girl reunion of any kind. I’m surprised Mel B didn’t bulldoze her way through and insisted Victoria’s doc was about the Spice Girls anyway, Geri regardless! 🤣

Just had a random memory, the b side to 'What took you so long' was called 'Let the music free up your mind'. It was in the credits of the first Pokémon movie and I remember rewinding the video again and again so I could hear that song! 😅

Dunno if you're familiar with the album tracks, but if you liked Goin Down, there's a song called Gaga with the same type of sound to it. It's one of my favourites :D

Quick question and something that has always kinda bugged me - do you think if Geri hadn't left, they would continue together as a band? Where would they release more albums and do more Spice World-ish movies? Thinking back to how it was in the 90s.

No I personally don't think so. I think Geri knew (or was well advised) to realise The spice girls had peaked by 1998. They were still getting hits, but the music landscape back then was so fast moving and fickle. They would have become 'yesterday' very quickly and I think the press would have turned on them in no time (looking back they already were with the booing fiasco).
I remember my Mum warning me not to buy a Spice girl lunch box that Summer as they'll be uncool soon- she was right! By 1999 I did not want to be seen wearing my spice girls tee! 😂
And rightly or wrongly, once they went off to get married and 2 of them had babies it kind of changed everything.
I think the beauty of them is that they burned bright and took over the world but it was a brief moment in time. History was made!

Excellent summary and I completely agree. Britney Spears made her debut after the release of Spiceworld and before the release of Forever and completely changed the pop music scene, like the Spice Girls did before her, when they snatched the limelight from the boy bands. Like you said, a brief moment in time at the perfect time. Zeitgeist.

Thanks! 🥺 Plus as soon as they sacked Simon Fuller he went to work on creating S club 7, who I clearly remember at 9 years old thinking were very much 'in' while the Spice girls were 'out'. No loyalty from me at all! 🤣

I do think as soon as they sacked Simon the writing was on the wall tbh. Love him or hate him he was the sixth spice girl

Newly found possible Spice drama!
