Who said she was agreeing with far right? Shouldn’t she have a say on things that affect her and her family as a British citizen because she happens to be non white 🙄 there’s racism in every country it doesn’t mean everyone is of the same opinion. Could post many videos of white people being attacked for simply being white but I’m smart enough to know it’s a minority would do that.
You didn't answer if you were black?

I’m more scared of my kids walking through a group of scousers having a ‘protest’ in town then I am them walking past a mosque full of muslims as a young white female

This is what’s truly amusing (and I mean that in the bad sense) with this whole situation

The people and communities being targeted aren’t in any way connected to the murderer but you still have people banging on about immigration and asylum seekers and trying to excuse these riots as if they’re not connected to racism and xenophobia based on wrong assumptions

Had this been a white man we would be having very different conversations
Yes. And the conversation no one is having is about the misogyny of this crime. It was a practically adult man, targetting a place that would be full of young girls. It's similar to the Manchester Ariana Grande concert bombing. What it boils down to is these men - of various backgrounds and creeds - target girls and women for their hatred and violence. If you subtracted any element of race or nationality or religion from those 2 crimes, they would show themselves for what they fundamentally are: male attacks on females.

I'm just wondering, though, how much worse this would all have been, if the culprit *had* been Muslim. I mean - it's been terrifying enough as it is, imagine trying to dampen down the discourse when people really do have all this simmering hatred for a specific religion, and seem ready to go when they think they've got a 'reason'.

When I see these ”protests” I’m always reminded of the old joke “What’s got 200 legs and no teeth ……….”

Yeah, but no better way to show your depth of feeling and support to the community in Southport at this horrific time for them than burning down the Citizen’s Advice Bureau in Sunderland.

Not if they send money back to their families abroad which many do?
Not on the amount we give to illegal immigrants they don’t!

The statistics I speak of are freely available online but I don’t want to distract from the purpose of the thread anymore than I already have 🫣

Nottingham seems to be peaceful so far hoping it stays that way.
Nottingham Post posted of a person posting why they are there :
'I am not a racist'
A protester has told us they are not a racist and explained why they have chosen to travel to Nottingham today.

They said: “I have a mixed race son I am not a racist, I’m a teacher and they are taking our money and taking our streets off us. I recently moved to Lincoln as I don’t feel safe in this city any more.”

At the moment there is only verbal sparring going on between the two groups. A member of the 2pm protest has been removed from the counter-protest side by police.

Not that I usually approve of whataboutery but yes, where were these save our kids “protesters” at when this happened?

In any case, regardless of colour/creed/illegal/legal, what is happening across the country at the moment is horrific. A knee jerk Neanderthal response to a horrific crime for which the perpetrator will hopefully be punished. I don’t suppose those out rioting and looting give any thought to any of those affected by this particular crime. And regardless of anything else, what truly frightens me is a breakdown of law and order, which we all depend on to some degree, to keep us safe. It is happening all over the world, but I never thought I’d see it here, and it almost feels a bit dystopian, like we are on the edge of something 😬😪

I'm interested to see what, if anything, comes out about his opinions on women

I read "Men Who Hate Women" a few years back and the author outlined the many crimes where misogynistic views were found to be held by the perpetrators but none of it was treated as terrorism

It's terrifying and to think no one is going to touch on that subject either and it will continue to simmer until it explodes

I have to question the logic of a teacher going to one of those ‘rallies’ if who they are is shown then bang goes the job and registration. Have your views sure but publicly expressing them as a public sector and registered employee then it’s not a good look really……

I have witnessed this before as a young woman in the 80s. The difference now is that the ability to organise, and to some extent to magnify the actions of these knuckle draggers is heightened via social media often promoted by a few disgusting creatures paid to inflame things.

Most people are good and just want to get on with their lives. Sadly, some people will always exploit the pain of others, and the stupidity of some, for their own profit. I honestly believe the far right politicians and mouthpieces are stoking a lot of this because they aren’t happy with the outcome of the general election.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous and stinks of thought policing. I do not agree with the riots but this teacher seems to be at a peaceful protest and is doing no harm just expressing his views, which may be more nuanced than you think.

It only takes one wrong move for something to happen to them

No guarantees when they decided to go that it'd be peaceful or even that it'll stay that way though. Also doesnt say it's a He post only put 'they'

I kind of think the perpetrator felt invisible. A loner who’s probably been, if not bullied, at the least ignored.
A young man who doesn’t live up to, in his own mind, the over masculinised stereotype.
He should be stepping out to his newly
burgeoning adult life with hope, but he’s not.
He’s sitting isolated in his room with the embers of despair, resentment and hopelessness burning and burning. For a long time.
The smile when he came into the courtroom. Look I’m not a nobody anymore, you see me now.
Not that I’m making excuses for him. He has to go down for life.
We need to understand to try and help it happening again.
