I think that's fair, because no matter how shocked I can't picture any situation with people being hurt where most would not try to help even if just ringing emergency services and waiting for them to arrive or something.

Yes he did wrong and should have at least phoned the police however the media have been wrongly focusing on him.

It's the various services involved and Axels parents who are to blame not a taxi driver and not the teacher. Everyone makes out they would be a hero but in a situation no one knows what they would do fight , flight or freeze. It was wrong he didn't call the police but it's not his fault Axel massacred a dance class. He definitely deserves to lose his licence but Axels parents knew how dangerous he was and did sweet duck all.

Yet the top rated comments in the Daily Mail are people defending him with thousands of likes, lots of sympathy for the guy.

Reading the DM comments on any given story can be the biggest mindfuck ever, it's like the people are posting from a parallel universe.

I see what you're saying but the people acting like he shouldn't even lose his licence is ?? because how can he be trusted to deal with vulnerable people now? Which is a big part of any facing public job sometimes.

Totally agree that AR's parents are hugely to blame but it doesn't have to be either/or.

I agree with this. Yes, in hindsight the taxi driver did wrong. But haven’t most of us (I certainly have) been in situations where we are unsure what to do for the best when things are happening. For example I have had a situation or two where it appears on face value that an incident is occurring where the police may need to be called but in the thought process, especially in my case where neighbours were involved, you think you’re overreacting, maybe it’s not what it seems, maybe I should keep my nose out (fortunately for me that has been the case and I would have never forgiven myself if it was the opposite). But without context and the fear of potential repercussions, we have become more and more reclusive. We would all like to think that if an immediate danger or situation arose where we need to act fast, then we would but until you are in that situation noone knows for certain what they would do. We all need heroes and I am eternally grateful that they exist in this horrible world. But unfortunately the fight or flight will never be known until it is essentially activated. The one and only person to blame is the one responsible, and his parents for enabling such behaviour.

Respectfully, I disagree. I understand the comparison you’re trying to make, but it isn’t equivalent. I can be damn sure that if I was confronted with screaming children pouring out of a building in my rear view mirror, my instinct would not have been to leave the scene sharpish.

But then I’m a woman and I think women are wired differently when it comes to children.

He does sound like the very definition of completely deranged so maybe a hospital will be safer for everyone. It does feel like he's treated with kid gloves and given what he wants, though.

PS that picture of his face literally twisted is such nightmare fuel. I wish the media would stop using it now.

Such a kick in the teeth for the families. Just after local news were mentioning a 3 minute silence next week, we see this monster is playing the system.

I was talking to my friend about this today. I apologise in advance if this sounds racist bit a feel a lot of Ethnic Minority families go into denial about issues with their children. Or they think it's God's Will and everything will be fine if they pray enough.

It's crazy that just 2 yrs ago, this person was living in the community, purchasing knives and ruling the roost in the family home. I do think that education and social work services should have played a bigger role in his life. I know his parents covered up for him but there's no way he goes from normal to mass murderer without signs.

Did we ever find out where his parents are??? They should be facing charges. Stupidity is no defence!!!

No, not racist. It’s definitely a religious and cultural thing. Mental illness carries such shame and stigma it’s covered up more often than not.

It’s pretty clear that his parents knew perfectly well that he was completely deranged, and did duck all about it. If they weren’t totally sticking their heads in the sand, they were (well his father was at the very least) actively sabotaging attempts by professionals to acknowledge there was a serious problem, and to intervene.

I worked with an African client once, it was tragic, he was very young and had autism to a level which meant he had to attend non school provision, but his family kept insisting he would go to university when he'd 'grown out of this'. Same with Arab clients. Not to say white families aren't blind to their own children's capabilities, but it's absolutely a cultural expectation in certain places to deny, deny, deny; and then when these children grow up to have poorer outcomes, it will be blamed on racism.

This has been my experience in the past, my youngest son has learning difficulties and is autistic, his dads side of the family (including his dad) refused to believe he had any kind of diagnosable condition, that he would ‘grow out of it’ or that it was me that was the problem because I was ‘coddling’ him. At one point my late mother in law (born and raised in Jamaica) suggested he should be ‘washed’ by an Obeah man because of evil spirits. Yes, really.
