1. What's so amazing about these?
2. Nice tucked away affiliate declaration 🙄
This actually really surprises me from Sofie. I used to listen to the Guilty Feminist religiously in its early years (its a bit too preachy lately but I still dip in occasionally).

I liked how they challenged the perceptions of beauty and make up and I remember they did an episode very early on about sustainable and ethical clothing. It really made me think about the way I shop and choose clothes. Influencers throwing mass made tat at us and telling us what we need while they profit from it has never sat right with me and its partly why I refuse to ever buy from an affiliate link or a company that uses these influencers (and I also couldn't stomach an influencer making money from me!).

So to see Sofie pairing with a company like ASOS and encouraging the swipe up for people to buy clothing that they probably don't need just feels like she's been completely hypocritical and disingenuous about the whole thing. Yes they're plus sized dungarees but that's not the point, it feels like she's part of a system that she rallied against and encouraged us to rally against too. Really disappointing!

I'm quite surprised to hear this as I've seen her being rude to people who replied to her story posts with questions about plastic waste, and on one of the Bad People podcasts she mithers on for ages about how she finds environment talk boring. (That's OK then, if it bores you, special Sofie, you are absolved of all responsibility to make ethical decisions. Better that the planet is destroyed than you spend one moment being bored 🙄)

Maybe now she is more established she doesn't think she needs to pretend to care.

Yes, this was 2015/2016. I didn't really see much of Sofie after she left GF because I never really liked her attitude when she was on it so didn't really bother with her new projects. So maybe she's been like this a lot in recent years, it's just a stark contrast to how she started out!

Exactly this. Sofie portrays herself in a certain way that makes her seem woke or progressive, but the reality of her life doesn't necessarily reflect that. For example, she's critical of puppy mills but got Hank. She's not straight but she has only been with cis men. She's a socialist but is doing a pretty good job of fueling capitalism. She wants to open up dialogue but attacks anyone who dares to message her, etc.

do you think Sofie declaring she's not an activist any more is part of this? like, she realised she was getting flack for not walking the walk so just decided it would be easier if she didn't even have to try?

I agree with everything you’ve said 💯 but her not having dated a woman or non binary person doesn’t invalidate her sexuality

You're right, that was uncalled for and I shouldn't have posted it. I really think that Sofie does whatever she can to "other" herself and make herself as non-mainstream as possible, but at the end of the day only she knows what her sexual orientation is and I shouldn't have questioned it.

This sums her up 100% (later corrected comment about her sexuality excepted).

I still don't really understand her vaccine post, surely if the only reason being large is a risk factor is because of how staff treat you then we wouldn't see the stats we do, as large people wouldn't be admitted to hospital in the first place?

yeah I agree, there is lots of evidence of women's pain not being taking seriously, I have never seen this about overwight/obese people

I ended up hearing the start of the eco crime podcast again for boring (oh no, something boring! 😆) technical reasons and in it she says (I'm paraphrasing) that we shouldn't feel guilty about things as individuals when the system is worse. And I thought, that's her whole thing isn't it? Hate "the system" in some abstract way, absolve yourself of personal responsibility and do whatever the duck you like. Can't be arsed to walk your dog? Don't feel bad, it's "the system's" fault.

Considering that she's been in therapy for years and currently has two therapists, I'm very surprised that she lacks so much accountability!

Poor Hank, looking out the window just starved for fresh air and a run in a field :/

When she does the "take your meds" reminder posts, I feel like we should do something similar that says "walk your dog"

Not necessarily just pain related but as someone whos partner is overweight I can say that doctors definitely don't take you seriously as a larger person and try to bring everything back to weight loss as the only solution. However, obesity is a risk factor not only due to related health impacts (diabetes etc but also not to mention that other co-morbidity factors can cause weight gain etc) but also obese people are apparently harder to treat regarding covid and therefore more likely to die from it (just according to what I've read on the topic from another thread on here, so can't be certain).

Basically, not sure what Sofie was saying about the vaccine etc (and don't really care because I find them boring and stopped following a long time ago) but it seems like they may be conflating two arguments regarding large people's day-to-day medical discrimination and what seems to be quite a solid statistic that being overweight, for whatever reason, increases your chances of being at risk due to covid. Just to say, also, being large can intersect with many other 'higher risk/vulnerable' groups (low income/front line working, disability, age etc) so I'd think that also plays a part too.

Does anyone know if supporters of large activism extend that to animals?
So does Sofie believe that Hank should eat what he likes and won't benefit from exercise?

I would ask Sofie but I'm also certain I'd get some snarky response and blocked.

Idk about Sofie, but have definitely seen people accuse their vets of 'large shaming' their pets 🙄

Wow 😬
I think that people obviously should have the choice about how they eat/live but it's so cruel to animals.
My friends dog actually hates walks and will hide up when you get her lead but they still encourage her to go out. Hank seems to be constantly looking out of the window and is clearly interested in going out. Its heartbreaking

I also really think some fresh air and exercise (walking Hank) would be beneficial to Sofie's mental health.

Yeah totally. He clearly is fascinated by everything in her garden because he's desperate to be out there. So frustrating that she took him for one walk and decided he didn't like it/ it wasn't worth it because he wasn't walking well and wanted to stop and smell things. That's what dogs do when they haven't been walked before! That's why you have to train them!!
