Societal Collapse - thoughts?

I was talking with a (much younger) colleague the other day, she was astonished to realise that "climate change" isn't something that has just recently been discovered. I was reading books written over 30 years ago that talked about it, although different terms were used (greenhouse effect etc). CFC's were first banned in 1976, as scientists realised the damage that they were causing to the atmosphere. This is not new science, and the idea that a closed ecosystem, can continue to sustain increasing numbers of humans, along with their toxic waste, is laughable. This is not an opinion, it's not some hippy-dippy fairy tale, it is proven fact, the only disputes are over the numbers. Humans will die out eventually, we've been here for the blink of an eye in evolutionary terms, the Earth will go on without us, as will (hopefully) some of the flora and fauna.

The "societal collapse"?? I think that some societies are already seeing this in action. Venezuela anyone?
Correct.

London Calling by The Clash, fine song on a great album by a great band. Released 1979. The chorus could have been a speech by Greta Thunberg today.

“The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning
I live by the river”

1979. Nothing new here.

I remember my mum was telling me about science magazines during the Soviet Union that predicted certain countries to be under water by this or that time and what not

I'm guessing they never used the words we use today but the fact that they were predicting this stuff is wild

Afghanistan looks like it's slowly (actually not that slowly) turning into hell on earth.

Religion is to blame for that. You’ve got to worship the right invisible friend in the sky.

Religion could have been a tool to help humanity. Instead we have the Taliban.

The Taliban are 46 miles from Kabul, which is in total chaos
Huge wildfires have broken out in Southern Italy
An iceberg the size of Greater London is drifting/breaking away from the arctic

Or Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi"

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum.
Then charged the people a dollar and a half just to see them"

Me and Mr K caught an old tv show movie spin-off the other day. ("Bless this House" for the oldies among you!) It was made in 1972, and the daughter of the family was protesting with her friends at a factory, they were demanding an end to wasteful packaging and wanted "more recycling".

This is not a new idea, we've been aware of this for decades!

In those days we had one tiny metal bin and it didn't even get full. Way over the top packaging for everything these days and now have to pay through the nose to get things package free. in those shops that are now called posh and fanciful to us back then the, weigh and save, things were for the poor.

Notice how we the public always have to pay the price. Governments could stop packaging if they wanted, but they don't, our taxes go out to dispose of them and we are penalised for buying what manufacturers are selling, make manufacturers more liable.

There is plenty that can be done with old plastic All around the world there are people making things with it. Roads, homes the list is really endless.

the coming iceage. The world is freezing over.

Now we are told the oppersite the ice is melting, the sea is rising. Truth is the climate changes and always did and always will. They are using it to scare the bejesus out of us all
