It’s a common misconception that breastfeeding burns loads of calories. It’s really hard not to eat more because it does make you hungry and it’s an easy one to justify to yourself eating more so your milk doesn’t suffer. In reality, exclusively breastfeeding burns about 500 calories a day, whilst I accept she has two babies to feed it wouldn’t be double the calories as their tummies will still be very small. I stopped loosing any weight when I was breastfeeding and soon figured out that that coffee and muffin that I had got into the habit of treating myself too mid afternoon was making up the calories I was burning and stopping me loosing any weight.
Ultimately breastfeeding is not a miracle worker when it comes to weight loss, lots of women put on weight AFTER they have their babies due to sleep deprivation and increased appetite/reduced willpower!
Sorry to go all mumsnet, but I see so many people saying it burns LOADS of calories and feel it’s a public service announcement to just clarify so people don’t get a shock in the future
