I dont think anyone disputes that SW works. Long term it doesnt give you the tools to maintain your 'target' weight. Also Ive said this for a few years now, not in relation to PTs jumping on the hate SW bandwagon. I have no views here, no clout to gain by posting what happened to me.

You cant avoid meals out and celebrations forever. You dont want to have chicken in black bean sauce and boiled rice for every takeaway and having takeaways of your choice and 'unlimited' free food doesnt go hand in hand with maintaining weight.

I wouldnt go as far to say as SW gave me an eating disorder but I had disordered eating. The full binge/purge rollercoaster. Barely eating before weigh in but then eating 'on plan' but more carbs and bigger portions the 3 days following weigh in. Id stop drinking water at 1pm for a 5pm weigh in.

I was seen as the 'ideal SW-er' at my class. Constantly looked up to and told to ask as I was doing 'so well' so I felt more pressure to continually have a loss each week. I couldnt say outl oud what I was doing because I knew it wasnt normal.

Im more educated now and realise that weightloss isnt a downward line constantly and fluctuations are normal. Especially for females, we ovulate, we menstruate, we hold water more than males do. I dont need to analyse my whole weeks eating if I gain half a pound and wonder where I went wrong.

Also having been what I would say is skinny for my frame/height I realised that loving myself wasnt solved by being a weight/size. If you dont love yourself as you are you'l always see something wrong no matter what size you are. I could see my bones and still felt just another half stone would be better.

I feel like I could’ve written this myself. Slimming world has taught me a lot of useful things like cooking from scratch, filling up on lower calorie foods etc but it definitely wasn’t sustainable for me. I’m currently enjoying applying all the good things I learned from slimming world to calorie counting

There's a girl in my class who did that. Came in 2 weeks before she had her son, second week she claims she was in labour while she was at class and had him the next day. Next week in she comes having lost 1.5 stone or something ridiculous 🙄
The lengths some people will go to for the Slimmer of the Week basket! 🤣

The way some of these 'influencers' write really irritates me, loads of abbreviated words like 'toms' and they all seem very full of themselves. Makes me cringe.

Some of the consultants are awful at SW. I signed up once and had a flare up of my illness. I’d bought a countdown but wasn’t well enough to attend. The consultant messaged me and I explained the situation. I wasn’t after any money back but told her I wouldn’t be in class. OMG the amount of pestering text messages I received was ridiculous! Every bloody day! I never went back even when I felt better!!

I went to one meeting a few years ago and it was clear the leader had lost all control. They had members who were interrupting them and talking loudly to each other during the meeting. I had to stay about an hour longer because all the machines stopped working to weigh me and take payment-not anyone’s fault but it added to the general ineptitude.I was stuck there for three hours. It really put me off. The online meetings have been good though, I suspect because SW pay for the franchise it is harder to vet them for suitability. WW has some horrors, but mainly because they seemed like they did not care and had lost belief in the plan-like I did haha.

Yep I used to be a WW leader and you’re basically a sales person. Weight loss is not a priority for the business! It was all about upselling the monthly pass (no longer available) and selling the product of the week. I loved my members and we’d have great meetings and would be happy to help but now WW has massively lost its way! The app is great in theory but has too much going on! You can’t even pay weekly at WW anymore!
SW meetings are sooooo long! I don’t want but know about why Doris gained 5lb after eating 10lbs of beige food at a buffet. Plus the consultants were all overweight themselves (the ones I had). At WW we were weighed at every team meeting and if you had gained and were out of target you’d be asked to report weekly and explain why you weren’t following the plan. They also made it a rule that you couldn’t be a diamond leader if you were outside of goal weight. I was young and thin at the time so was a firm fav but the managers were super hard on some leaders!

I would honestly never go to a SW meeting or weigh in again. They are the most toxic places. The consultants are sales people, the whole business is designed to make money. There is no nutrition advice. Labelling any food a syn is disgusting. All food has a calorie value, just eat at your limit and stay in deficit and you can eat what you like. It takes a bit more effort to weigh some pasta or rice but eating unmeasured amounts of anything isn't going to help you lose weight. The people who do well generally have a lot of weight to lose so for them cooking from scratch and even thinking about eating healthy food will help. Its a massive con.

Yep 💯! SW is a great way to start for someone who has a lot to lose. If they ditched the crap terminology they would be better.

I think its a lot more than their terminology. Flogging those awful hi fi bars, packed with sugar. They focus too much on large and not the amount of sugar. Muller lights have got loads and they've not long had a syn value.

This 👌 it doesn't teach you how to portion control. People regain after because the mentality of 'free food' teaches over eating, 'have as much as you want/fill up on speed'. Then when it comes to real life situations like eating out and celebrations/takeaways or similar, the plan doesn't work. It's great if you have absolutely no idea where to start, but once your near your goal (cringe) weight, there's no education on how to maintain. Stupid things like have an extra healthy extra isn't how to maintain, talk about calories, nutrition, real life food encounters. I've lost 4st twice on SW and 5 St once after....... I regained everytime because I didn't have a clue how to balance it all. I've lost 3st now and kept it off for 4 years because once I stopped SW and started trying to eat healthy, it became sustainable

Well done you. Losing weight is never easy but understanding the science behind weight loss really helps.

Oh there’s loads wrong with them but the terminology is all ‘pile your plate high’ ‘eat as much of this food as you like’ and no food is a ‘syn’. The syn values seem to be assigned in lowest order to whatever company pays them the most. At the meetings I went to hifi bars weren’t promoted or really mentioned. They are overly sweet, the same as the Alpen bars.

God yes, I ate far more on SW than I would normally. I stayed the same a few times, and was told it was because I hadn't used my syns. Its so warped.
