I went to SW for a couple of years (before the pandemic) and lost a lot of weight in those two years. I've since put on weight - with the lockdowns and the stress of the last few years. After everything opened up, I went back, but I felt differently about it all (almost like the whole thing was pointless). I have ended up going away from the whole SW thing ever since. When I look back on it, I can't believe how into it I was, the ridiculous little recipe 'hacks' - I hate quark so much, as well as, the Fry Light spray, the super low-fat (and sour) cheese etc. What I hated most was how I got told by the group consultant to stop eating food from my culture because it was all 'full of syns' (even if I cooked everything with Fry Light), and that the best way to lose the weight, was to follow, cook and make SW food from their cookbooks. I'm not sure why it annoyed me...it still does if I really think about it now.
Even when I see photos of myself back then, it shocks me. Yes I was a lot slimmer, but my skin wasn't as glowy and my hair wasn't shiny (it became quite rough, and still hasn't gone back to its original softness/lustre, which upsets me). I didn't like how competitive or attention-seeking some of the members in the group I attended were, or how it was expected of you to open up after having a gain. I eat my feelings when I'm extremely stressed or in a depressive moment; it was so hard to explain it whenever I did gain. I would just cry whenever it happened and that always felt quite embarrassing, as I don't like to cry in public (let alone at a weight loss group where you are openly asked to explain yourself).
I don't think SW is a long-term viable plan; especially when it comes to maintaining weight loss in the long run. I think I'm just going to go back to the tried and tested method of eating balanced meals and regular exercise, while hoping for the best

just makes me realise how shite it all is. It’s not drawing a line or getting back on track. It’s called having a life. Just shows you how unsustainable it is if having a nice time is “off plan”
"no guilt" "no humiliation"
Then you sit in group infront of everyone. "So Sandra, why have you gained 4lbs this week?! Where did you go wrong"

I went to group this morning and lost 3 pounds. I was feeling very good until the consultant told us all about the Slimming World Oscars? Have any of you ever heard of it? The thought of the sort of people who attend that make me want to projectile vomit. Put me down for 4 pounds loss next due to excess vomiting.

You have to question someone who feels they have to state they didn’t have a Coke Zero and a skinny iced latte on the same day.. What exactly would be wrong with that if you did? That would be a maximum of 115 calories total 🤦🏻‍♀️ This is not something anyone should feel guilty about, or feel they have to clarify!

@Hodgies Hi. I've been a yoyo dieter since I discovered the word calories as a teen. I started dieting when I was around 7 stone! 🙄
I've done so many diets including slimming world several times. I can't bear the groups.
In April I started to try fasting. I do still drink my tea as not giving that up for anything! It's more like one meal a day around 6 pm.
I've been surprised how much easier it is to eat once a day than thinking of food 3 times plus snacks etc.
I work 3-4 days a week & do it those days as I forget about eating when occupied. I still enjoy eating out on occasion. I've found it very freeing and eating exactly what I want is wonderful. Still have lots of veggies & some fruit every day to keep healthy.
I've been surprised how easy it was after the first couple of days.
I've currently lost 13 lbs eating this way. For the first time in my life I feel in control & not scared of food if that makes sense! I thought I'd share in case it would help in some way. 🙂
I'm not saying fasting doesnt work because it does, but it works because it creates a calorie deficit. There is no magic in it other then consuming less calories. The normal method is 16/8 some people fast longer. To those reading this comment please dont do it if it makes you miserable, starving all day is not worth it (again some people are not hungry so can do it easily). I dont fast but I also dont eat untill nearer lunch time as I'm not a breakfast gal.

That's why I cannot stand people such as Fopperholic (Foperbollox to me) she lies and lies about her lifestyle, all while chirping about syns and free food🙄

I've said on here before someone needs to go undercover into the main office to expose them! Toxic as hell
"tesco messed up my shopping order, and I went mad at the delivery driver so I had a binge and ate everything in sight" is my new fave excuse...it's straight from the snares bible of excuses.

i need tattle advice, do I have a right to be angry right now? I will give you the details.

For a while in group we have donated to a member of the social teams daughter, we bring an item of food for slimmer of the week and we also bring a item for the social teams daughter who lives in a town not too far away. We renamed the donation basket to the food bank to protect the daughters identity and dignity, but it’s agreed the donations goes to the social teams daughter as she doesn’t work and struggles financially.

I dropped a food blender off recently for the social teams daughter at her house, when I was invited in, I was asked if I want a coffee and she told me she had just spent £1,000 on a bean to cup machine. Afterwards I thought something doesn’t seem right.

We all had a meal planned for the Woman of the Year at a local restaurant and we paid a £10 deposit each, there isn’t many of us who attend group. 12 all together at the most. The meal was cancelled because of Covid. Rather than refunding out deposits, they have said they will donate the money to the group food bank. Only a few of us know that it is just a name we use for the sake of the social teams daughter. It has caused a lot of anger in the group. The consultant has rang us all individually and has called us mean spirited and selfish and the social team member is angry with us all for challenging it.

Are we in the wrong, be honest?
Wow wtf, I would be demanding my money back what a load of bollocks! Why is this other persons daughter your responsibility!? I’m all for charity but this is taking the piss

I think it would annoy me if I was donating and didn’t know who the real recipient was tbh

A title that would be suitable for the slimming world thread would be ‘Slimming World, lots of gains, blighted by egotistical wank stains’

my son used that horrible term to describe people but it is relevant in this case

It's so tragic. Why is she clinging on to this bullshit. She hasn't lost any weight has she since 2017? 🤣 you're right a big mac is less than 500 cals!
She's an absolutely obnoxious bint. Calling people Karens for calling out the calorific portions she serves up and claims to lose weight with. Like you say, she hasn't lost any weight in a long long time. There's a lot of gullible people who follow SW on Instagram who will lap up her bullshit.
There's no honesty from her, just a walking discount code. She can stick her chicken boobs up her arse too. It wasn't funny the first time she said it.
As you can probably tell, I'm not her biggest fan.

Happy Monday lads!

Just stumbled across this thread and am creasing at some of the comments. SW down to a tea.

I've recently rejoined as an online member, coz I do like the basic premise of the plan, and the App is about 1000000% better than it used to be!

Joined online as there's no way I'm paying to sit in a stinky community hall while a bunch of people Chow down on their post weigh-in bags of quavers and hi-fi bars, while the 'consultant' gives people who have lost 1lb (a very healthy amount to lose weekly) a patronising, faux sympathetic look. All while being way off 'target' themselves and not having a client about calorie density, exercise, macros or actual nutrition.
Reading your posts about some of the grim concoctions people come up with, and the 'advice' is giving me such lols flashbacks 😅.

I've rejoined because I did the Fast 800 during Lockdown, and it has left me with terrible issues around food. I was counting calories in spinach FFS 🙃. So I like the non-numbers approach to SW. At the end of the day, it's lean protein, lots of fruit and veg, a bit of fibre and some calcium. I don't syn (don't get me started on that word...) milk or avocados. I don't really weigh porridge oats or cheese. I also don't syn fruit in a smoothie - I mean come on 🤣🤣.

Some of it is total bonkers. But those gross recipes do give me a laugh.

Anyways, just thought I'd say thanks for brightening my morning! X
