Yes that’s dodgy. I don’t care about the ones set up on behalf of charities where the charity is linked - RNLI for example. But you get into dodgy territory when you are taking the money personally. Of course, the legitimate fundraisers make the whole thing seem legit too, meaning more people would gladly bung him money under the assumption it’s going straight to charity.In that example, looks like the money will be going to the specific charity (Brake). But look at others (e.g. the Maccies one) you'll see that there's not a linked charity (therefore he gets the money)
I am having trouble finding tax info for Gofundme in the UK. It seems that in the US, if you set up a fundraiser for yourself these are personal gifts so not taxed. But he’s raising money to buy things for others, so not sure whether the money coming in should be getting declared. I hope he’s keeping accounts if nothing else.
