Creating this thread off the back of the “Do I need it? No” thread!

Feel free to share anything you’ve used up (can be anything, not just beauty!) and hopefully we can encourage each other to use up our current stash and not add to it 😂

I’ll kick off with this mini Corsrx snail mucin

Really lovely formula, great for dry skin. Very hydrating, and didn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I’m using something else atm but after that I would repurchase ☺

Just finished a Ouai hair mask, lovely mask tbh, but not for me. I prefer other ones more

for some reason, this whole process has made me realise:
1. How easily influenced I am
2. How much of a harsh critic I am

🤣🤣 so basically I buy a lot of shit but I’m never happy with any of it. The idea of it always seems better than the reality!

Can't believe how much this thread has shifted my attitude. Usually at this time of year I'm looking into the advent calendars and gift sets, now I have a streamlined hg routine with products I am loyal to because they work. Only buying to replace helps too.

The using up of random hotel toiletries continued with a DHC face wash (very nice ) and an illegible Japanese hair conditioner ( also quite nice). I also got a whole in the arse of some M&S jeans so they were banished to the recycling too.

Is anyone finding they’re actually spending more time on themselves in a quest to use up products? I’m terrible for slacking off with the body lotion in particular but I’m slathering it on like butter on a fat girls toast these days 😆

My recent empties:
La Roche posay anthelios 50+ fluid - wish you could buy this in pint bottles, it’s a daily staple for years for me!

Eucerin 5% urea repair cream - on my second tub, great for cracked dry hands, elbows, any stubborn, rough, dry patches

Boots ingredients hyaluronic sleep mask - recommended by a user on another thread, on my second almost empty of this! Great for dry skin and keeping flakes at bay in this rough weather/drying heat

The ordinary squalane cleanser - I liked this, but run through it too quickly. Finishing my second tube and will rebuy my old more expensive, but longer lasting cleanser.

I used to rinse through shower gel so much, but now I buy nice handmade soap and it lasts far longer!

I also finished a shower gel today - Warm vanilla sugar by bath and body works. Really lovely scent, already replaced it with another B&BW one (Dahlia). I’m running low on my shower gel stock 😂

my hand cream stock however, is overflowing and I’ll never make a dent in it 😅 I have about 30 different ones! 😢
I’ve just repurposed 2 large tubes of hand cream that I didn’t have a hope of getting through - they’re now in a tub mixed with vitamin c powder and being used as foot cream (which I do get through fairly rapidly). Feet are softer than they’ve ever been and although I still have a number of hand creams I now only have one backup (from my most recent advent calendar), the rest are in use across various handy 🤭 locations and will get finished up at some point

Final empties of the year!

Torriden Dive-In Soothing Cream: I like a gel moisturiser for daytime as I find it works better under makeup. This one had a lightweight texture and it sunk in quickly. I don't think I'd repurchase it as I didn't find it hydrating enough for me.

Revolution Ceramides Hydrating Cleanser: This was the third bottle I've used of this product. I liked the initial bottle but it had been reformulated and wasn't the same. I won't be purchasing it again.

I managed to use a total of 46 products in 2024.

I started doing some decluttering as I plan to really pair down my makeup collection in the new year.

Barry M Bold Waterproof Eyeliner in Black - I used up three quarters of the pencil but unfortunately it dried out before I could finish it. The lead literally fell out 😂 It's a great affordable black eyeliner, easy to use and nicely pigmented.

ELF No Budge Matte Shadow Stick in Vintage Suede, Cool Beans and Thrift Shop - These were nice matte eyeshadow sticks that worked well as eyeshadow bases and as eyeliners. The Vintage Suede colour looked a bit like baby poo on me though. Sadly these all broke out of the packaging.

ELF No Budge Shadow Stick in Magnetic Pull, Champagne Crystal, Perfect Pearl, Rose Gold and 2x Bronze Metal - These were all nice, smooth metallic eyeshadow sticks. The only one that was a little chunky was Champagne Crystal. As with the matte ones these all broke off in the packaging.

I tried to depot some Nars products as the rubberised packaging had gone all sticky and nothing would remove the stickiness. The packaging was also crumbling so it really put me off using the products. I used the pin and dental floss method I remember a friend raving about years ago. I did have some casualties though. Namely single eyeshadows in Coconut Grove and Bombshell and duos in Brousse and Cordura. Fortunately I wasn't too fussed about any of these shades. Going to try out the ones I did manage to depot to see if I want to keep them or declutter them.

JVN Complete Pre-Wash Scalp Oil - Absolute crap, do not buy. It would rinse out of my hair and it got weird chunky black lumps in it way before the product use by guidelines. Yuck.

JVN Complete Nourishing Shine Drops - Made my hair considerably frizzier and unmanageable whilst also making it greasy.

In total I decluttered 41 products in 2024.

2025 will be a no buy year for pretty much everything, converting to a one in one out once I've used up some of my "stock". Here's hoping I can beat this year's numbers! 😊

Baby was having a good nap this morning so took the opportunity to have a little declutter...

Empties:
- Madara Skin Equal Soft Glow Foundation - Not quite empty but I'm calling it done as it's gotten very thick and looks straight up orange on my face. Bought this as I had a voucher for a "natural" cosmetics site, would not repurchase, thought it was crap!

- Elf Liquid Metallic Eyeshadow in Moon - Again, not quite empty but I can't get any more product out. I really liked this but wouldn't repurchase as it's impossible to use more than half of the tube.

- Elf Wow Brow in Taupe - This was okay, didn't really notice much hold on my brows (not that they're running off my face or anything) nor did add much in the way of volume. Wouldn't repurchase.

- JVN Embody Daily Volumizing Shampoo - Hated it, complete waste of money, did nothing for my hair at all.

- JVN Undamage Strengthening Shampoo - Same as above.

- JVN Undamage Strengthening Conditioner - Same as above.

Decluttered products:
- Huda Beauty Silk Balm - Smelt like plastic, not sure if it was off, and I found it very thick and sticky. Came in a kit, would not repurchase.

- Elf Ride or Die Lip Balm in Boss Berry - Loved the colour and texture but is an absolute arse to get out of the tube. Product has been discontinued and replaced with a different product so couldn't repurchase even if I wanted to.

- Elf Ride or Die Lip Balm in Cheeky Cherry - As above.

- Elf Ride or Die Lip Balm in Mighty Mint - As above.

- Elf Liquid Metallic Eyeshadow in Comet - Beautiful colour and nice product but it dried out before I even made a dent in it. As per the previous one I wouldn't repurchase as the packaging doesn't allow you to get all the product out.

- Elf Liquid Metallic Eyeshadow in Galaxy - As above.

- Lacura Collagen Lip Oil - Not a fan of this, feels goopy on the lips and the rollerball keeps jamming. Would not repurchase.

- Soltan Kids Suncare Stick SPF 50+ - Used this on myself and my son when we're out and about. Convenient and easy to use. Would repurchase, just chucking unfinished as I've had it a while and the SPF would have degraded. Better safe than sorry!

So far for 2024 I have finished 12 products, decluttered 16 and only purchased 1 new one 🥳

Sorting through and decluttering my stuff in an attempt to save some money and minimise everything!

Quick sort out last night and I have the following.

Soap & Glory The Real Zing - Couple of uses left but am chucking it as I find it irritates my skin.

StriVectin Anti-Wrinkle SD Advanced Intensive Moisturizing Concentrate - From one of my most expensive regret purchases (a kit from Caroline Hirons 🙄) this cream did absolute naff all and I'm throwing it away despite still being half full.

Sioris Falling Into The Rose Mist - Mini size from an advent calendar. Have used half but never reach for it so might as well chuck it.

Dr Jart Cicapair Tiger Grass Re.pair Serum - 5ml mini from a Cicapair gift set. Nice lightweight texture but want to try some different Centella Asiatica serums instead.

Revolution Translucent Pressed Powder - I can't get this powder to work on my skin at all. No matter what I do it looks super cakey so in the bin it goes.

Revolution Conceal & Fix Ultimate Coverage Concealer - I can't get this to work for me. It's both greasy and too dry, it doesn't stay put but it also clings. It makes no sense! Pretty sure it's expired too so off it goes.

ELF Ultra Precise Brow Pencil - Finished this and already repurchased a replacement. The colour isn't too red, it's waxy but not too stiff, it gives the right amount of colour and is nice and precise. Bought the replacement last year and it's been sat in a drawer because of course it has! 🤣

2024 Product Tally:
Declutter products: 5
Finished products: 2
New products: 0

Recent empties:

Skin1004 Centella Quick Calming Pad -sample included in a recent Stylevana order. Really calmed the redness in my skin and very saturated in serum so there was plenty for my whole face, neck and decolletage. Will purchase a box in my next order.

Some By Mi AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner - sample from an advent calendar. Gently exfoliating and didn't irritate my skin. Will purchase again soon.

M&S Discover Spiced Amber EDT - 30ml bottle. Really like the M&S fragrances as they're affordable, cruelty free and vegan. Tend to change it up with each purchase since they discontinued my favourite fragrance.

M&S Discover Spiced Bergamot EDT - As above.

Revolution Ceramides Hydrating Cleanser - Nice gentle morning and second cleanse. Had two other bottles in mu cupboard so cracked open a new one and the texture is completely different. Not sure which was the right one. Very strange.

ELF Holy Hydration Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm - Effective and affordable cleansing balm. Has fragrance in it so I won't repurchase as it can effect my skin at times.

Recent decluttered products:

Nature Spell Vegan Retinol Face Moisturiser 1% Bakuchiol - Absolutely destroyed my skin barrier after one use. My skin got so dry, it cracked and was painful to talk!

Nature Spell Papaya Make-up Melt Cleansing Balm - Bitty like 90s St Ives apricot scrub and so heavily fragranced it made my eyes water. Thankful I didn't put it on my eyes because it left a greasy film I couldn't remove and left my skin feeling like it was on fire

Half year update:
18 products decluttered
23 products finished

Used up the last of my Beauty Pie youthbomb moisturiser. I really like it so it’ll get rebought when I’ve finished up all of the husbands barely used collection.

I also finished up two bottles of bourbon 🥃 … they each only had a little in honest 😉 OK it did amount to half a pint of whisky, but it meant I slept well last night 😂😂

Philip Kingsley split end remedy mini - too heavy for my hair no matter how little I used so used it up as a pre wash treatment

No 7 Lip liner - very creamy, was using all over before oil/gloss but still took an age to use up (too old to hang on to). I’ve not been a habitual liner of lips but I’ve a few to get through from gifts with purchase so I’m making it a thing. I prefer a less creamy formula for actually lining.

Revolution lip liner to replace above went in the bin after a lot of sharpening because life’s too short - unusably dry, probably partly down to age but it’s A LOT newer than the no 7 liner

Benefit 24hr brow setter - thought this would outlive me but finally empty. Fine but no better than the Aldi one I’ve replaced it with

Clinique lip scrub - I’ll never buy lip scrub in a pot again. Took me so long to get through (messy and just not easy to use) I now use essence avocado lip booster for a light scrub daily which i find so much better all round

Tattle sponsored boots hyalaronic sleeping mask - as we all know it’s the dog’s. I’m feeling smug I took advantage of the offer that was on when tattle influenced me and bought 3 (commiserations to the tattle influencer who could’ve become a millionaire from commission income)

Christmas Bath bomb - received as a gift, was big and in the way, back to the bubble baths

Tresemme heat defence spray - doesn’t do anything bad, who knows if it does anything good
