Sex scenes

As my handle and avatar here suggests, I am a big fan of the film "Mulholland Drive". A film of which contains a fairly tasteful les love scene.

However, I did read a behind-the-scenes interview with one of its stars, Naomi Watts (the woman on the right in my avatar pic). She said she found it incredibly difficult to perform a necessary self scene near the end of the film. So much so the director - David Lynch - had the scene closed off to only one cameraman, a lighting guy, sound man and Lynch himself. But even then she found it hugely difficult to "perform"

And yet in the same interview she said she didn't have a problem with the nude les scene with Laura Harring (woman on the left in my avatar pic)
Yes you raise an interesting point how do the actors feel about performing those scenes?
I 've always been a big bernardo bertolucci fan and remember watching last tango in paris and finding it both explicit and disturbing but it undoubtedly packed an emotional punch and was a powerful piece of film making.
However i was disturbed to find out that in the famous anal grape scene where marlon brando used butter that the lead actress maria schneider was not informed beforehand about this (it was marlons idea i think) and really felt quite used not to mention violated by the whole scene.
So much so that she never really recovered from it (the humiliation not to mention infamy of that because thats what people thought of when they heard her name) and turned to drugs and didn't really have much of a career afterwards.
Sadly she died fairly young after leading a troubled life so it made me aware really of how seedy and exploitative the whole film industry can be.
These days after knowing that i can't stand to watch the film and feel a bit ashamed that i ever really rated it. 🙁
Also marlon brando got off lightly didn't he?
He is still held in high regard and came out of it smelling of roses.
I guess its still acceptable to see a powerful man abuse a young and beautiful woman and all in the name of art?
Double standards it would seem?

That show had so many sex scenes that my husband asked if I was a watching porn. I don’t think they add value to the story.

I don't like them. It never adds anything to plot really. If it's vital that the characters have sex (which is fair enough) then you can just imply it, like they do in soaps. You don't need Game of Thrones style scenes.

And don't even get me started on (put it in a spoiler for trigger warning)

Usually too many of them - and they go on far too long. I can’t stand watching any scenes involving actors snogging for ages, especially if you can hear it as well.
I would rather they kept them brief, and only if they add to the story line.

They don't bother me but as many others have touched on if they don't seem to have a purpose to the story line find them completely unnecessary.

I don't mind watching them as long as my family aren't present

I spent about a month in Tokyo a few years ago, and they have some pretty tough/bizarre censorship rules with regards sex scenes (which may have changed since then). But back then they pixelated the genital area (both sexes) because historically Japanese censors felt showing such things would offend public morality!

So it was quite weird/off-putting watching a couple get it on with all their dangly bits hidden by blurred or dotted mosaics

I feel there’s often not enough erotic tension, build up or sexy kissing scenes. I don’t mind sex scenes if done well. I usually watch most stuff on my own anyway.

yes! Or when they, usually the woman, start moaning and they've just started kissing. I'm like... he's not doing anything to you?!

This is the kind of thing I have a problem with. Or a few period ones, too, where a young lady is being 'deflowered' and displays just a fleeting vague frown to demonstrate her virginity has just that moment been lost, then everything goes along great guns 😆

I fully choked on my apple reading that :ROFLMAO:
It is so true though! It reminds me of in 50 shades when Anna is a virgin at the beginning but then suddenly becomes a master porn star after one touch 🤷‍♀️

Dislike them. They only seem to be there to up the cinema minutes to the requisite 131. Either that or to make me sink blushing into the cushions when having to endure them with family present.

I wonder if the directors snort evilly as they ramp up the cringe factor

My favourite sex scene is in the inbetweeners when Will humps Charlotte's inner thigh space. Realistic of those teenage years.

I hate them only cos it makes me jealous that I aren’t having hot sex up a wall or on a stairwell 😂😂😂

apart from that they don’t bother me

In a perfect world there wouldn't be any need for any horizontal jogging; or at the very least you could just see the amorous couple enter a bedroom and close the door behind them before moving onto the next scene.

Allowing us to use our imaginations rather than having the graphic bits served up like a 3 course meal is quite preferable to most people I would have thought.

I hate hate hate them. They trigger my PTSD so I have to research if a movie or TV show has them before I will watch. These days it seems almost impossible to find any.

the brigerton ones were boring after a while and i didn't expect it because its a show that's meant to be innocent. Whereas got it's the style of the show so i didn't mind them in GOT.

Have any of you seen Tiny Pretty Things on Netflix? It is graphic sex scenes galore. Short of seeing genitalia it's basically like porn. I was ready to watch some ballet with a bit of a riverdale mystery thrown in. Was not expecting the sex which once again adds nothing at all to the plot. Imply it by all means but we don't need to really see it.

I enjoyed the Bridgerton series as a whole but thought some of the sex scenes were unrealistic, who orgasms during their first time 🤣
