Just the victim stayed in touch with Scott til around 2006, Someone who was in Scott's social circle back then said

“Scott stayed in touch with him, and I first heard about him in 2001.

“They used to see each other, and Scott was friendly with him like he was with a lot of people.

“I’m sure they were still in contact until around 2006. It suggests they were still on good terms so I’m not sure what prompted the investigation.”
What a load of bullshit “I’m not sure what prompted the investigation” well clearly if the victim realised the relationship/what they did when they were under 16 was no legal/inappropriate that will be it

ignorance around individuals and what counts as an appropriate relationships/friendships is doing my head in

But they didn't drop it - the CPS declined to take it forwards.

I think we've covered that the age of gay consent was lowered to 16 in 2000. So that would mean if the victim were under 18 they would not be considered underage.

What is a twink? Because I thought it was a very young, barely legal, "pretty boy"? That post is interesting because I wondered about a fear of being seen as homophobic on the Huw Edwards thread.
It’s the fetishisation of very young, very pretty boys … I’ve personally witnessed many in the industry lusting after boys as young as 12. It’s much more prevalent than older guys and younger women in the industry. I used to model and dance and was very attractive once upon a time (for a few years 🤣) and had no issues at all with guys being inappropriate. The twink thing is a lot more prevalent % wise with how many gay men there are vs straight. There is always a substantial age gap and inbalance of power in these relationships a la Schofield.

Bloody hell, I've seen some crazy stuff on here today, but this is beyond. No, it is not up to bouncers to help prevent you from groping a minor! If you think someone might be underage you absolutely can and should ask to see some ID, or, you know, just leave them alone, despite the fact that it might 'kill the mood'.
Oh come on, youre nitpicking here. You know fine well, what allseeingeye is saying. Obviously if somebody looks young, acts young or seems young you won't go there. But I think the point they are making is people do look and act older and especially if they are in a nightclub or a bar. You wouldn't think to question someone who you perceive to be of age. Especially if you are only late teens or early twenties yourself, you assume they are about the same age as you. I do think it's a bit different if it is someone of that age, being chatted up or going with a middle aged person. If they are young enough to be your child, then that raises questions, if you perceive him to be your peer, then it is a lot more muddy.

Kept in contact with Scott for at least eight years after the alleged abuse happened. Why would he report something new now ten years after he first reported it and whatever it is why didn't he report it at the time?
When you are young, you may not realize that a relationship or sexual encounters were wrong/abusive etc. Don't know whether it's true that watching the Huw Edwards program prompted him to report again.
The new bit is apparently the bbc didn't know before that he was under 16, leading me to conclude they were ok with sexual offences as long as the victim wasn't underage.
So much unknown, seems like the bbc are handling this with their usual half assed storyline. Is it really not possible to lay out a coherent timeline.

I'm uncomfortable with the fact that he hasn't stated it was a false allegation and agrees it was taken to CPS and the charge threshold wasn't met.....

That just means that CPS feel there isn't a realistic prospect of prosecution, not that it didn't happen.

I'm shocked he's not said it was a false allegation.
He's probably been advised not to comment on it.

I don't think we can read anything into the wording. Just my opinion but I think he had very little to do with drafting that response. He's probably not in any state to think clearly.

I think she's saying that people here are equating a serious sexual assault between 15 and 24 year olds with a serious sexual assault between 15 and 50 year olds.
I don't think anyone is saying that. Posters here seem to be able to distinguish between the two.
Both are unacceptable, and both are also crimes.

Apologies if it's been discussed, because I haven't been following the thread, but today I saw various outlets reporting that Scott Mills's lucrative pantomime deal isn't been renewed. Apparently his contract had been for Jack and the Beanstalk at £190,000 a year for three years. I'm amazed at all the high value extra work add ons available to fairly low level(ish) celebrities.

Not condoning anything at all id like to state before i go on

This person accusing scott and going to the papers as it looks like they are,why now? Why would you not say something sooner? Something dont feel right about this coming out now
They did.

As for why again now, could be any number of reasons. Something triggered them? maybe more evidence was found.
Victims sould feel free to come forward whenever they want imo.

For me , with Fry its not the age gaps themselves. Its the fact that the guys look so much younger. Hes clearly into very young looking guys, gives me the ick a bit.

Tom Daleys relationship is icky. Lance met him when he was very young and vulnerable after his dad died. He even admitted as much in an interview, which now seems to have vanished from the Internet from what I can tell.
A lot of early Tom/Lance stuff seems to have disappeared. I remember an interview where Tom talked about his and Lance's leather kink and Lance being his leather daddy. No trace of it now but I deffo remember it. Very odd couple.

There's something really offputting about Scott Mills and his friends doing a victimhood tour.

Maybe just keep your head down for a while until appropriate. He's gone all Ant McPartlin with the papped dog walks and his friends keep on about how worried they are.

Maybe don't try to overshadow the alleged victim right when it's all fresh news again?
Eh? The guy has to go outside and he's got to walk his dog. He has been seen out once.

'80's too, SM is of that era too. Same age as me. Gen X.

Seriously it does happen alas. I am one to think there are a lot of people out there shitting themselves because they cant remember what they did when they were drunk/caned. It actually happened to me a couple of years ago. My ex is booze allergic to one particular type of alcohol. Turns quick. Doesnt remember a thing about his bad behaviour the next day. There's a reason he is now an ex, it happened rarely but I just couldnt deal with his sweet face the next day but being afeared of the foulness he could spout after that tipple. He doesnt remember a thing, you can see it in his eyes, not a thing but he knows that he cant remember. There's a shedload of people from SM's generation who were so very very off their tits on pills and powder in late 80's early 90's rave scene they wont always remember what they did. I know because I was there, not off my tits, watching them.

I'm a 70's kid so the '80's were my teen years. It was quite awful how many men would follow you home from school, or to the shops etc let alone older men taking advantage. No mobiles, no texts, only 4 channels on the telly and one of them had james savile on every week. I had a number of older boyfriends and to this day I am confused why my parents didn't protect me more. My male gay friends had a very challenging time indeed and I know very well from drunk chatters that there will be increasing issues for others in the future about chem sex parties. Bless those not alive to tell more.

And yes, someone mentioned Boy George, wtf is he still on the box? Nasty violent man.
Teenager in the 80s too and back then out in the town drinking, no ID required, looking over 18 but around 16. I think with girls we can look much older and who are older men to question it though I know people are much more wary these days. I knew of two girls my age who were considered slappers back then but they thought it was cool to sleep with much older men who were aware of their ages, one of whom was a father himself. Now I look back and think shame on the men for taking advantage of clearly vulnerable girls who were under 16 at the time. How could a father do this to a young girl when he had a daughter too?

I think there’s a difference between “support” and just not demonising him until we know it’s worth doing. People are allowed to have liked him until this allegation came out.

I think the BBC have handled everything correctly. They could well have believed the allegations made at the time were malicious or unfounded if no action was taken, and it isn't fair to tarnish someone forever based on such an incident.

More information has now come to light and the fact that this has happened so quickly tells me that Scott confessed straightaway. They have made not a kneejerk decision, but a very sensible one.

Much as I love Scott, there's no hiding from this.

Russell T Davies gives me the ick. Clear penchant for younger men, the latest of whom he seems to have charmed with a Dr Who set photo shoot.

That Daily Mail article posted above mentions that the BBC treated him like royalty. IMO that is part of their problem, they suck up to the people they see as their stars and ignore any warning signs just as they did with Huw Edwards. Then if it all comes out they are totally impotent and unable to stem the fallout for them as well as the "star" in question.

Also, I really doubt that in the 90s I would look at someone under the age of 16 and think "aye they're quite attractive...", come on now.
Not what I was getting at at all. My son is at secondary school and some of the Year 10 and 11 lads are 6ft tall with beards so if they wanted to pass for 18+ they easily could and add in a dark nightclub and being pissed you can see how a mistake might be made.

I'm new to tattle and have been reading this thread with interest, despite not knowing who Scott Mills is.
It's fascinating reading the different ideas, thanks everyone, and it's really made me look at my own values. In fact I recently had a disagreement with my son who said it was disgusting that I went out with a 21 year old when I was 15. I'd never approve of my child doing that, of course.

It's hard to get my head around that because we dated for years and to be honest he was probably the best boyfriend I ever had (and I'm mid-50's now!). But I've recently started to think of other situations I had as a teen and realise that I was badly taken advantage of. So I know it isn't an excuse, but for me it 'was' different back then.
It's actually great to see that attitudes are changing.

Sorry for the gobbledegook, I'm surprised how much emotion this thread has brought up in me.

No idea what SM has done, but it ain't good. Hope justice is served and the victim is well-supported.
My friends and I, now in our 40’s are only starting to question the men we dated when we were technically children. When I was 15 I met a 19 year old man who I dated for around 18 months. It never crossed my mind then, and for many years that this was inappropriate. We split amicably but I do not think of him fondly, it was actually gross.
