In an undated and misspelled letter to Sharif and Batool shown to jurors on Wednesday, Sara wrote that she was “sorry for being rude” and “answering back”.

She concluded her note with the words: “Please forgive me I am so, so sorry.”

This is awful, that poor girl having to apologise. Can't find any updates from today apart from the judge saying the jury can consider manslaughter.

A Child Called It is a bit of an unfortunate comparison as Dave Peltzer has since been exposed as lying about vast chunks of his book. He's also been caught bang to rights lying about a number of things: he said the book was a Pulitzer nominee when it wasn't, he said he was a firefighter when he wasn't, he said that the state of California had officially classed his case as being the 'third worst case of child abuse ever seen' when they hadn't (I mean, wtf would anyone rank child abuse cases like they're K-pop bands lol).

He's also a clearly pretty wild guy, he used to make a lot of money from public speaking until he eventually got less popular due to reports of him making wild misogynistic statements and weird jokes onstage.

Anyway, sorry for the derail, I just think his book cheapents the experiences of children who really do suffer this stuff.

If you're iterested in the controversy about how much (if any) of his account is true and the various exposes done over the years, his wikipedia page is actually a good place to start cos it points you to other sources, artiles and reviews.

It makes me feel sick to say it but I can’t help but think what was on her body they were so desperate to remove evidence of. Using a jet wash seems like some extreme measure to try and get rid of DNA.
Someone said yesterday that they think he changed his story and admitted he beat her after spending days denying all knowledge because the questioning was getting tough and he was scared of what else would come out. But what is worse than killing a child? This along with the bite makes on her inner thigh just makes me feel like there is another even more sinister layer to the abuse they were doing to poor Sara. And I don’t believe they want to keep the children in Pakistan because they think that’s what’s best for them but more they are scared of what will come out if they were interviewed. I can’t even bring to imagine the horror that went on in that house. This case is so harrowing.

School flagged the bruises and inconsistent answers March 2023.

She was withdrawn to ‘home school’ in April 2023.

Where was the safeguarding from SS?!

Hope this thread is allowed

This whole thing is really sad and strange and just seen now on the news the stepmother and father have released some video which seems to show nothing but concern for themselves and their own circumstances.
I've got a feeling that poor Sara had been living a life similar to Arthur Labinjo, I guess time will tell.
What's everyone's thoughts?

I think US must have known at least some of what was going on. I can't speak to experiences of growing up with a dad working as I never had one but certainly the father of my sons worked very long hours when they were young and didn't always see them in the evenings but he saw their 'debris' - clothes in the laundry bin, school books, stuf they'd left in the living room, he'd see them on their way to the loo or hear them/see them in passing in the morning....tbh if there'd been evidence of blood, bloody bandages, or they'd been limping or shaky or unwell he WOULD have seen. With young kids, especially active young kids, the evidence of their simply existing in a house is everywhere, not just by sight but by hearing - we could always hear them thundering on the landing and running up and down upstairs (why ARE boys so unbelievably heavy footed lol), talking etc.

For US to argue he knew nothing, for me is about as plausible as Rose West trying to argue that she had zero knowledge of Fred West killing and dismembering 12 women in their basement - it's like nah darling you will hear and smell something even if you are literally walking round with your eyes closed.

I do agree that BB was the ringleader and would not be surprised if she devised some of the more esoteric tortures like the radiator and the hood, out of jealousy and her own evil sadistic nature. As I said before I reckon it will come out that she consumed a lot of media about tortures used on Guantanamo detainees and other war crimes and tried those sick ideas out on Sara. But US is NOT an innocent either!

The account of Sara's dying moments is horrific. She died not in the arms of loving parents but the arms of their abusers. It's horrible, horrible, horrible, these people are LOWER than animals. Especialy BB. Fucking evil manipulative sadist.

I don't believe him. I think he was just as involved as her. Abusers often film themselves being attacked, it's classic DARVO.

Also, we've been told, as part of US' defence everything was quiet when he was home. Were these attacks on him silent?

Even if he was a victim of DV, he had agency, he could have saved his child. He could have sent Sara to live with her mother or sent her to Pakistan to be cared for by his family but he chose not to

I wonder if there is or was confusion/lack of understanding from US, of the English Language and English law?
US seems to have married a polish woman to get EU citizenship and worked in various unskilled jobs, and run back to Pakistan when his daughter actually died of her abuse, which makes me wonder how much he really understood about living in the UK?

I have no idea of the answer to this, but is it acceptable in rural Pakistan, maybe in rural communities? to use physical punishments on children and wives? These kind of abuses seem to be sadly acceptable now in Afghanistan, where women and girls seem to have no rights left at all. And Pakistan is next door to Afghanistan geographically.

So maybe US thought he had an actual right to use punishment on his daughter, and has now realised that in UK law, he doesnt! So has had to change his plea?

What a bastard he was, and I feel so sad for poor Sara and the rest of that unhappy household.
I wonder if there is or was confusion/lack of understanding from US, of the English Language and English law?

Nah a person can literally not stand trial in the UK if it is shown that they are not capable of fully understanding the proceedings, eg a language barrier. They've got to know enough of what's going on to be able to understand the proceedings, this is why the trial and death sentence of say Timothy Evans in the 1950s was so controversial (and in any case he likely was innocent) because he had a low IQ and arguable didn't understand what was going on. There is a very good argument that has been made by several jurists and legal academics that the Bulger killers should not have been tried as adults because they were too young and ill-educated to understand what was going on, which I broadly think is true.

Oh nah don't give him the excuse, I will say this as a naturalised immigrant from a conservative culture myself - I am sure he understands British culture and values just fine, fine enough to work and avail himself of our public services etc. Don't give him the excuse. On physical chastisement of women and children, the Quran does allow light physical chastisement of one's wife but only once other non-violent attempts at 'correcting' her have failed. The Prophet spoke against hitting children. And torturing your own daughter to death is definitely not allowed by any religion afaik!

Poor wee girl. Her step mother doesn't wear hijab and her dad wasn't noted to be especially observant. I have a horrible feeling she was made to wear hijab to cover bruises. To be so deliberately isolated and then for her father and step mum to just leave her body there and try to save their own skins along with her uncle. I hope she knew love and happiness in her little short life

What’s he hoping to avoid coming out, by saying it was him? Is there something much bigger going to be reported?

Are the other children facing a return to the UK and he wants BB to be home for them?

Did he abuse the other children too?

This isn’t from the kindness of his heart.

I don't believe he wasn't as bad as BB. You couldn't be unaware that your child was in that much pain when you live in the same house. This is his defence, he's not been cross examined yet, his barrister is attempting to convince the jury that he's not guilty
There were three adults and six children in a small and cramped three-bedroom house. Everybody living in that house would have heard Sara’s screams, and what was happening to her.

I believe Urfan knew exactly what was going on, and I believe he participated in abusing Sara too. His attempts to portray Batool as the sole abuser and himself as innocent are laughable.

lots of video evidence again, Sara without a hijab and with marks on her neck, hands, face. Uncle Faisal also there. The police have done a good job here, they’re all going down for a long time.
It sounds from this that all of the children were being severely abused. No wonder they were so desperate to get them to Pakistan so that they can’t testify what they went through.
He is such a manipulative character when he was crying in the dock last week and swearing he had no idea such abuse had happened till he was back in the UK and dramatically pointing at Beinash calling her a psycho It did make me think maybe he didn’t know about the more extreme abuse and didn’t participate in it if he was out of the house most of the time but after reading todays update he not only knew he was also responsible for it.
I really hope the other kids are okay. It doesn’t seem right they are with his family.

It is absolutely VILE and sick, worse than imagined after seeing that update on the fb group!! Scald injuries which I'm assuming means water, worsened by urine when soiling herself 😞 which makes me question, was she forced to stand for periods? Clear evidence of her being restrained by the feet as well, this case is the worst I've heard of yet, god I can't imagine that poor girls suffering.
She had collar bruising across upper chest/collarbone too according to an earlier medical expert witness. This implies she was restrained for long periods of time in a so-called 'stress position'. Given the injuries to the feet you mention two possibilities present themselves: either standing upright and restrained against some kind of rigid frame eg against the upright wooden railings of a stair bannister or crouched in a foetal position with the legs folded so that the backs of the heels are against the buttocks (either crouching or kneeling) - this would also cause any fluids to soak into the feet. The kneeling and crouched stress positions were used on Guantanamo detainees & are very painful - I have speculated elsewhere in this thread that her abusers had consumed some kind of documentary on Guantanamo or some documentary on maltreatment of PoWs and used that for 'ideas' on what to do with her, as a number of things coming out of the trial suggest this.

The comments about her vomiting and soiling herself in terror are as heart-breaking to read as reports of her injuries. Hopefully he'll be living every day in fear very soon in prison

I did suspect that Olga couldn’t keep the children “safe” somehow and that’s how they came back with US. He’s an absolute bastard and jail is going to be hell for him.
I'm not sure jail will be hell for him.

He is an intimidating, violent person, he will probably be aggressive in prison instead of meek and contrite, which means he'll be less of a target.

There is a very large number of Muslim men in prison too, and he will probably join a gang of them.

Seriously, how "me me me" can you get? It's everyone's fault but theirs isn't it. Absolutely no compassion or empathy for Sara, and willing to allow their remaining children to starve because they don't want to come out of hiding. And how does "cooperating with British authorities" marry up with fleeing the country on one way tickets and going into hiding in a country without an extradition treaty?
These two have made me so angry today.

Jurors also heard that Sharif had been raised in Pakistan and that his parents had not instilled a disciplinarian regime towards their children. He admitted that his ideas of discipline, which he used against Sara, had “come from him”.
I don't believe him when he says his parents weren't disciplinarian. I just don't think it's believable looking at the culture and the remote village that he comes from.

I wonder if he's saying that because he wants his father to have custody of all the children, so needs to pretend that his father isn't the same as him so the children won't get taken away from him.

Likely Sara got blamed for every single thing in that house, regardless of what was done.

The texts are pure arse covering, like she was cunning enough to realise teachers, SS or neighbours would inevitably report them. She was laying a deliberatetrail of deflection.
Why would a terrified and beaten child deliberately cut up her abusers clothes? The bite marks can only have been the stepmother...dad, older brother and uncle were forensically eliminated, and the other children presumably too young to match.
Abused children do sometimes act out destructively but very rarely on the site of their abuse, they do it in a perceived “safer” space like at school. Teachers as part of safeguarding are trained to look out for this.

I agree I don’t think that poor little mite did ANYTHING bad at home she woulda been too scared. It’s a classic case of the culprit painting the victim in a bad light. Like Savannah Brockhill claiming that Star ripped up an important souvenir of Frankie’s or Kate McCann deriding her daughter as a “screamer” and “very needy”. Culprits victim blame because it eases the cognitive dissonance in their psyche and makes their actions easier to live with.
