This is the thing, even if you do have the intention of calling someone by the pronouns they’ve asked, it’s so easy to revert back to what you previously knew/referred to them as.

Demi Lovato asked to be called they/them a few years ago, and once most people got used to it, she then said she felt feminine again and starting going by she/her again…

it’s unrealistic to 1). expect everyone to know what pronouns you go by, and 2). get everyone to change their speech patterns and expect them to have that split second initiative all the time where they ‘correct’ themselves.

I’m a Sam fan but not completely a fan of their new look but I do think it’s highlights how pathetic people become over how someone else chooses to live their life

nothing they’re doing hasn’t not been seen/done before but people really do take offense and have deep disgust for something that literally does not impact them in the slightest. I don’t think people realise how confined to being “normal” they are that they can’t fathom the idea that some people don’t give af about being liked, or looking “good” or fitting in. Sam had an incredible career wearing suits, singing heartbreak ballads and being well liked, I don’t think anyone wakes up wanting the entire world to call them names and laugh at them. In an interview they explained where their were at in life and what the song unholy was about and it’s based on a real experience… are we telling people they can only create art about their life if it fits into what people are comfortable with?

I think you can totally dislike what sams doing, but just switch the channel or block them and keep it stepping or go look in the mirror and unpack why it actually makes you so mad. I see things I dislike everyday, but someone out there likes it and it’s not harming anyone so who tf cares

and I personally think the pronoun shit is nonsense but again if someone has asked to be called that, I’ll try my best to remember, again it’s not harming anyone and people have a right to be referred to however they like

And I have the right to correctly sex him. He's welcome to call himself whatever the hell he wants, but I'm not playing. It's compelled speech.

I actually can’t decide if he is driving this and craves the attention and wants these outfits, to shock and get fame, or, if he’s been told if he wants this latest album out then he needs to go down this pornographic, fetishy route and he’s actually gritting his teeth hating it all.

Whichever one it is, the result is he looks desperate, unwashed, sweaty, and detracting from any talent he once had. I’ve never been a fan of his voice but I did like his initial suits and jewellery when he first started.

I don't feel anyone would have an issue with that as you're trying, as you say. I think the problem is when people get the pronouns wrong thinking it's funny, as have quite a few on here and social media over the last few days re Sam. That's quite pathetic.

And re the whole non-binary thing - there are many different ways to be non-binary. For example, I'm male but don't identify with many "traditional" male things - i.e. I bloody hate football. I guess that would make me a "brainwashed loon" to some...

I can’t deal with the attention seeking from Sam it’s very clear he knew everyone would be wearing INCREDIBLE outfits - the type of thing he would usually wear (which wouldn’t be appropriate in another setting) therefore has gone for something as equally shocking in the opposite way. If he’d rocked up in sequin hot pants and a spandex pink top with heels, he’d have looked like everyone else, but he can’t can he? Can’t possibly share attention with other people. He is from where I am from. He wasn’t born in Bishops Stortford as the maternity unit closed soon after I was born but he went to the Catholic school here. I think he lived further out though. Anyone who remembers him at the school said he was an annoying show off

Not joking here at all, I went in a charity shop last week, bought Sam's debut album for 50p. I'd heard some songs from it previously but not the full album. Honestly, I've got it in my car and have listened to it on repeat since. It's incredible, his voice is so soothing.. Why has he done this to himself? He is so talented, he didn't need to change his image at all. I would have paid to see him live previously, definitely not now. It's a real shame tbh. He's destroyed his career imo.
