Ah okay! Any gig I've been to in my nearest arena has just been a free for all when leaving, never any staff around other than at the outside doors.
At Mcr there’s always staff / police etc. x

Cos they know in advance what time the concert will end and have staff already in position. When it ends randomly, there’ll be a lead time to get the staff organised. There are a minimum number on the stairs etc during a gig, when there’s not much movement, but many more during exit to keep it safe.
With big gigs the local transport (and police) are often geared up for the floods of people expected at a certain time. Goes a bit wrong if they come out early.

Comments on the nonsensical Daily Mail story about it are vicious

Lots about the autotune must have broken, and lots along the lines of 4 songs was 4 too many, the audience got off lightly etc

Is it possible that Sam is taking hormones that may affect his voice? Or is that only when women take testosterone?

Isn't Poland surprisingly conservative and traditional? Seems an interesting choice of country for him.

Completely agree this is bizarre behaviour and poor given the timing, but just a reminder that Sam’s pronouns are they/them!
Oh give it a rest. He’s male. I am not going to have my speech compelled by anyone, let alone by some rando on the internet. And before you shout “Transphobe” - call it what you like. I really don’t give the tiniest of people.

He was also supposed to do some festival in Tel Aviv that ended up canceled.
There was backlash about Sam being booked to play that festival, concerning Israel/Palestine etc.

Noone’s quite sure who pulled the plug first, Sam or the organiser. The whole first day of the festival was cancelled along with the other performances, the second day still went ahead I think.

Had friends who were there - 4 songs - lights went out while they were singing. Venue asked everyone to stay put while it was resolved. Couldn’t - so gig cancelled. I see that they’ve said it was vocal issues now.

There has been criticism elsewhere - not on here - about people were stopped from leaving while venue were trying resolve issues.
Reasons for stopping people leaving include - invalidated any refund. If you leave a gig during the gig for any reason there’s no refund - even if it’s stopped. Until the venue / promoter say it’s cancelled - it’s not cancelled.

Safety - emptying a venue the size of the Manchester Arena requires planning & resources - it’s different to an evacuation and usually involves police & transport police ( given its near a railway station & centre of the city) it can take a bit of time to mobilise if earlier than expected but not an emergency.

As a regular gig goer, event staff are always brilliant & not on loads of £££. Some of them were likely on a break 4 songs in so it annoys me that people elsewhere are slagging them off for not “knowing what was going on etc etc especially so close to the anniversary of the attack” Linking it too the attack is just wrong in my eyes when staff were trying to do their job.

Tickets on sale for Birmingham at less than 50% via ticketing resell sites…

as you were xx
if Sam was aware of the vocal issues prior to the gig, even if a niggle, they should have cancelled beforehand and not during the gig - so much reorganisation and stress on everyone else, and for Manchester in particular there will always be that memory of the tragedy and worry about safety.
