I’m in my 30’s as is my brother, he likes to wear eyeliner and heeled boots and a looooot of leopard print, but he’s also a happily married man with a VERY high profile job who knows he likes women.

They all seem to have confused eccentricity for gender signposting, “I didn’t like being forced into one of two gender boxes therefore I’ll make my own box and if you don’t fit into those first two then you MUST be in my new one!” Why does anyone need a bloody box at all, it all seems so self-defeatist, soon we’ll have 83 different genders as people increasingly find they don’t like the gender boxes on offer and keep creating more if the labelling and quantifying of self worth stopped perhaps they’d find contentment instead of contention

I don’t think he ever publicly came out, apparently his mum wouldn’t have approved and because his main audience was women he was advised against it.

Several friends then outed him after his passing…

I thought this was known when Luther was alive. But I might be mistaken.

However, whilst Barry Manilow has never actually come out, it's well known he married a few years back to his partner of many years. We saw him in concert not long after it was revealed. He still got screams and the general discussion was that it was lovely he had someone to share his life with.

Maybe things have moved on.

I can imagine. Sam was part of a Calvin Harris set (for the Brits iirc), on stage for 90 seconds, a bit pissed and dancing with an Americas next top model contestant. That did kind of work and probably his limit.
Some artists just aren't performers that can pull off an arena show, and that's fine. We can't do everything. Other artists can put on a great show, but lack in other areas.

Just out of interest (not trying to start an argument ) but what makes you say that? Is it their weight? Their personality? The fact that their image has changed so much? Or that it simply doesn’t suit him?

Someone like Harry Styles seems to be better liked and can get away with slightly more outrageous outfits. Is it just because he’s more cool? Better looking? Slimmer?

I’m not challenging you, I’m just intrigued myself because I definitely find Harry more palatable and I don’t know why!

I have become increasingly irritated by Sam recently- simply because it feels like their music is being overplayed.

Definitely overplayed. Sam Smith was song/album of the week on Ken Bruce's morning show but I doubt that Mr. Bruce is allowed any input on playlists.
