espresso took off for a coachella single with minimal promo, but selling music is literally her job. her last album had sleeper hits, nonsense / feather / read your mind / fast times etc and is how i got more into her music. maybe she feels omnipresent right now because they got traction after the standard album cycle (2022), and being an eras tour opener exposed her to a lot of new fans. i do think she gets unfair criticism though, like why is barry's baby at home is her fault? and if she's that annoying there's an option to mute her on spotify etc.

I was on Reddit and some people on there are really going for her over this, especially as it turns out a lot of the posts/clips are being taken down due to copyright claims, and people believe it is her team actioning this but it's having the Streisand effect.

People are being really over the top with it all, as if she is genuinely this nasty racist person whose mask has slipped! It's ridiculous and I don't believe that for a moment. In fact I think they're being racist towards her, as much of the commentary is about her being white.

Re the videos, I think we just have so much more visual content now that we’re less impressed by music videos. IMO Sabrina’s videos are actually quite reminiscent of that early 00s era.

one thing has a whole verse about her meeting the guy at the door with just her high heels on so it absolutely is sexual. like you say, people just don’t “notice” or look back with slightly rosetinted glasses. 90s rnb was absolute filth! 00s pop just as much.

i find the sabrina convo interesting because she’s “sexy” in such a betty boop oops oh me?! gasp! way. her whole vibe is being a like a slightly unhinged polly pocket. i HATE the album cover because of the hair pull but some of the reaction to her in general is a little ott. plus she is very much in control in all her songs (completely unlike one thing, dip it low and others mentioned before which are just about servicing your man and being as hot for him as you can be).

I think now with TikTok, kids watch all type of content with no parental supervision whatsoever which leads to parents just getting their little darlings any concert tickets they want without even doing any research. I was at the short and sweet tour last week and I was shocked at the amount of children there, literally 7/8 year olds. She used to be on Disney yes but that was almost a decade ago at this stage. She’s never been marketed towards kids, even ‘Espresso’ isn’t child friendly.

To be fair as someone who does have tickets, I paid £83 for a standing ticket in Manchester and the only £250 tickets were the platinum ones set by Ticketmaster

Maybe it’s because I’ve watched her since Girl Meets World, I just don’t get the mean girl vibes. She does seem to have very dry humour, but most the people I know joke around like that so maybe that’s why it doesn’t come across as mean to me. I feel like it’s instinctually to people to see a short pretty blonde girl and immediately think “mean girl” because of movies and such.

I think she’s just read wrong too, she’s clearly got a good sense of humour from some of her lyrics and tv appearances. I don’t think she takes herself too seriously but somehow it’s gone the other way in people’s perceptions
