Reminds me of this I saw on Instagram

There is a woman on Tik Tok and YT called ThatTwinMama that posts videos of her singing along to songs we all used to sing as teenagers. Now listening to it as an adult, she realises how much they got away with then There are quite a few she has done that I have sung along to for years yet never once stopped and thought about the lyrics. This one is Ghostbusters which is a perfect example. I have sung along for years and never once realised that he wasn't singing what I thought he was singing about. 😄

For me I just hate that she over sexualises herself at the same time as infantilising herself. She is so desperate for male validation and everything she does reminds me of a 16 year old who just had sex for the first time and needs to let everybody know.

The lolita style photoshoot, the calling herself a little girl in a sexual way, the making her height part of her personality, the naming a song after a movie about a pregnant teenager who was groomed. She’s like Ariana Grande who also infantilised herself but on steroids imo.

“Oops me? But I’m so tiny, I’m just a little girl!” That’s the impression I get from her. I just hate it. Purposely trying to make yourself come across as childlike and sexy at the same time is just disgusting tbh
Yes! This is exactly why I have an issue with her too. It isn't the overt sexual way she is, it's the little girl/lolita mixed in with it.

I think if any men watch her they'll be seeing her as a sexless drag act. Kind of like Mae West in her later years.

I do think Sabrina is very smart, savvy and an expert at satire.

I hate the album cover.

I do sometimes wonder if she is working up to some exposé or takedown though....

If the entire Sabrina project is really about something else, or has another purpose.

Because some of her tropes can't be anything but satire.

And then who suddenly blows up with their fifth album? And gets Taylor Swift's producer (another very smart guy). And has a relationship that instantly spawns material and perfectly matches the album release cycle.

Is it all just good marketing?

Or is The Spinal Tap reference more apt than we know?

Ive broken my arm and am on strong painkillers 🤣😱

You have picked quite a random choice of video to back up the point. But personally I think it’s less sexualised. SC aside, growing up all I heard was “sex sells” whereas now women can do what they want.

Christina Milian Dip it low video is VERY sexual imo, literally writhing around in her underwear and that’s the first example I could think of without thinking about it too much. Christina Aguilera full stop - especially dirrty 🤣🤣 But yeah I think music / videos especially in RnB were quite gross looking back, loved them at the time though!
Yeah, that's fair enough. Looking back on the lyrics and videos, there was definitely a lot of sexualisation in the lyrics and visuals. I'm most likely looking at that period through rose tinted glasses. As the other poster mentioned, I was young and didn't entirely understand the lyrics, lol.

I do remember many people in my school at the time knowing every lyric to Ludacris' "whats your fantasy" and that video, along with the lyrics, was definitely verging on x-rated. Actually, on second thoughts that period was arguably more X-rated, haha. Sisqo's the "Thong song" which I'm not even sure would be aired these days without outrage.

I kind of hope you're right. I really don't see the satire, though. It's just being provocative for the sake of it.

Well, if it gets more young girls and pervy men interested in satire, then that can only be a good thing for sales of Private Eye and viewing figures of Have I Got News For You....a winner for Ian Hislop all round! :)

I just fantasise that she's going to come out as a PhD student in sexual politics and the entire thing from Espresso onwards has been a sociological experiment and she will then expose all the industry pressure and views...

And the entire last 14 months she's been recording a feminist documentary in which 'sabrina carpenter' is a character used to expose...well, something. I haven't figured that bit out yet.

Because I just cannot accept that she is not trolling us all.

I cannot.

Thoughts on Man’s Best Friend? I’ve listened through twice this morning and my stand outs are Tears, Nobody’s Son, When Did You Get Hot? and House Tour ☺

I love it! So ABBA influenced. My favourites are the exact same as yours plus Goodbye.

Having gone through a breakup recently it's very relatable for me. 🤣

Go Go Juice and Goodbye were my favourites on first listen at midnight. Have it on again now.

Nobody’s Son
When Did You Get Hot?
Go Go Juice
Goodbye - love the ABBA sound in this

The album has interesting sounds and I love the influence on it but at the same time a lot of the songs aren’t very memorable on first listen - my opinion will probably change on a re-listen. It’s extremely hard to make out what she’s singing for a few of the songs and I dislike the processing/layering on her voice

I agree it's hard to make out what she's saying on some of it! It's taking me a few listens to catch some of the lyrics.

Tears, I’m not surprised it’s her next single as it’s probably one of the more catchier ones after Manchild.

Goodbye is probably the one I liked the most on first listen. Quite liked Go Go Juice as well but it’ll probably change over time.

I'm tit with lyrics anyway unless I look them up so this will be an interesting listen for me 😭

I like Nobody’s Son, Tears and Sugar Talking. I do miss the singer-songwriter vibe from eics, which is still her best work, imo. I think it got a bit lost in the pursuit to be a main pop girlie, so now everything feels a bit unremarkable.

I think I need to listen more, they’re all kind of blending atm. My initial thoughts are that it hadn’t given me that “wow this is great” impression that SnS did immediately.
