I’m interested if she’s hell bent on getting funding. She could’ve started this year easily by self funding. She has such a golden opportunity to showcase her work once she gets into it by already having a social media following but she’s just going to squander it being precious and secretive over her topic and undermining herself with these childish videos
Not sure. It's quite difficult to get funding in the humanities. I reckon she probably just didnt think her masters would be a good enough mark to pursue an Oxford PhD (as they don't just take anyone for a PhD even if you self fund) so she didn't apply. No idea if Oxford EngLit has a January start available for PhDs.
---
Did you see her Austen tea party with her mum and dad on her insta lmao.

When did she start liking Austen, anyway. I swear she said a while ago that she doesn't like Austen.

Probably when Marfa informed her that we were all saying she was far to dense to enjoy Austen a couple of weeks ago.

She probably just needed an excuse to pose in her new gifted dress.

That clip of her pretentiously reciting the opening line is so obnoxious. I guess she wanted to prove she actually opened the book for ten seconds.

Omg a new video, and that title! we really got a buckle up.
Her face here kills me lol She is so serious. She really thinks she has cracked this case and is now an investigative journalist, a Bernstein for the digital age.

So can someone tell me what the point of the video is? Books are great and the aesthetics are part of the book? Did she even answer the question of whether or not Booktub is too obsessive about it?

According to Ruby, answering the question or addressing any crucial parts of the discussion are "a different conversation".

This video is purely to remind people that she went to Oxford and likes books with pretty covers and pictures.

My friend is autistic and her special interest/specialty at uni was Austen. I threw her an Austen themed tea party as a gift last year and I can guarantee it looked (and was) WAY more fun than that!!

I saw the tea party post yesterday but forgot to come here to comment...

That pink dress...it's not very...Austen-like... what's with the weird skirt on it? Trying to be a bustle or something but it looks like she's snagged it on a hedge instead. The sleeves are ghastly... need I go on?!

I'm not going to comment on her mother either...

A woman of 24 - even unmarried- would have had her hair UP - not straggling out over her shoulders

and the texture of the dress. the faded dye, it reminded me of Nancy from Oliver! or Fantine from Les Mis...It looks like a ragged dress, not one a polished Emma Woodhouse hosting a tea party would wear. The dress looks dishevelled 😅 No change there for Ruby, ahaha.

Edited for typos

I’ve seen that dress on one of those dodgy fast-fashion websites that promises much but never delivers. Someone ought to remind Ruby that it‘s still fast-fashion even if you have to wait for it to be shipped from the other side of the world …

Yup. Made in China, claims to be ethical, Trustpilot average of 2.7 stars with some very bad reviews. Of course Roobee has done zero research before promoting something she got for free.

She's doing a year of Self Learning at the University of Roobs, Manor campus. Homemade modules will include Edwardian Christmas, bird types and Booktok.

Not joking, this is actually happening.

How do we turn this quote into the next thread tittle ??

How is liking a dress and asking about it nicely is "reduction of women to their clothing" lol ESPECIALLY when the said dress is being advertised on a social media. And Rumbster is so superior and smug with her answer. She finds it "excusable" and sends the innocent creature off to the seller, who, I've just learned, are likely scammers?

A friend of mine who didn't know much about Ruby (let's say it's not a topic we usually bring up in our friends group) bought herself the academic planner for this year and it came with more than half of it being crushed in the envelope, and therefore unusable. She tried to contact the Pumpkin Productivity support with pictures to ask if she could get a refund but I doubt she will get one, or even an answer, because she will not be able to return it since they ask all returns to be made in "perfect condition".

The envelope was a very flimsy one with thin bubble wrap in it but only on the front and back cover, which means the side weren't protected. I was surprised the planner wasn't sent in a cardboard envelope like the ones used for Amazon and other companies; I myself have a small collection of artbooks from video games and they also usually get sent in these envelopes, and the only time I had an issue due to one book being received in bad condition, I got a new one sent for free.
I feel like the return costs of Pumpkin Productivity not being taken care of are just there to discourage customers to get a refund (especially since my friend had to pay for the customs), that and the fact that you can't really find any proper review of the brand online. Very disappointing yet not surprising at all.

It would be helpful if there was an option to leave a review on the Pumpkin Productivity website but obviously we know why there isnt!

They can put whatever dodgy disclaimers they want in their website T&Cs, but it doesn't circumvent UK consumer law. They're legally required to offer a refund for items delivered damaged or faulty.

If they won't respond, your friend should file a dispute with Paypal/their card provider who will make sure the money's returned. They should also highlight the issue in the Pumpkin Productivity Insta comments to warn others off.
